2:05 One of my all-time favorites. The perfectly smooth fake throw, the first baseman just waiting...waiting...tag. And the look the runner gives to the first base coach is just priceless: "Dude, literally your only job in this situation is to warn me when they do THAT."
@richardkempton1894
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah and that coach went up to him and said " keep your eye on the ball it's only the first thing they teach you about baseball". Lol That was perfect deke, they got them both, that is unless coach saw and just wasn't able to communicate fast enough to him. Carpenter goes from face down to taking a step off the bag in like 2 seconds.
@nickadams701
2 жыл бұрын
A runner should NOT take his foot off the bag until the pitcher is on the mound. If the fielder still has the ball (i.e. "hidden ball trick"), it's a balk if the pitcher is anywhere near the rubber. A runner can only be fooled by the hidden ball trick if he doesn't know the rules.

It does seem very smart, but at the same time that was absolutely a catchable ball. Maybe not every time, but most of the time. I imagine he thought it was hitting higher up on the wall, but instead landed right at the bottom.

@Ryan H I wouldn’t say ignorant considering I don’t think there is a such thing as an uncatchable ball when ichiro is involved But seriously that was a real good heads up play by one the greats
@bobdole4916
3 жыл бұрын
@@jimyeats The thing is - you can't crash into that part of the outfield wall at PacBell safely. It's chainlink fence and brick with some bits that stick out - it'd be downright dangerous to your health to go crashing into that, and players who do charge to that wall and can't quite get to the catch are often setup for causing an inside the park home run because of how weird the caroms off that wall can be. By staying back from the wall (which has become the norm unless you know you can catch it) you're in a better position to cut off an odd bounce if it happens. Ichiro made the much safer play, *and* kept the runner from scoring because of how he played it. It was some dang smart baseball. And this is from a Giants' fan who's lived here in the Bay Area since the 80's. You just gotta tip your cap to such a smart, skilled player like Ichiro.

@@ilanschinagel6619 In theory, yes. But imagine the struggle he would have to go through in hopes to catch it. And if he attempts to catch it and doesn't catch it, that double can become triple. It's a risky situation. Most outfielders will show their back and run, admitting that it's a hit and their goal is to just retrieve the ball as fast as possible and throw it to infield, then the runner in the first base will get a head start in running and he would've gone home. But since Ichiro faked it out as if it's a flyball, he was held at first base and then he had to start running from first base when ball bounced, hence not having a head start in running the bases. But as savy as this move was, reason why it didn't work out at the end is because pitcher didn't deliver through and kept giving up hits. No matter how talented you are, there's a limit to how much you can carry the team. Prime example. Shohei Ohtani. Phenomenal player. But their team sucks ass. Their pitching team and staff is a joke.

What is the best Prize you could ever win? A million dollars? A trip around the world? Having your debts paid off? Or would erasing your sin debt with God be a better deal than all of the wealth on earth? (Matthew 16:26) Let’s see. Have you broken God’s Law by lying? If one murder makes someone a murderer, then one lie makes you a liar. Have you stolen, lusted after others, coveted money, or cursed God? God will not hold lawbreakers guiltless. The sentence for these crimes will be eternal death in Hell. God wants to show lawbreakers mercy, but the penalty for their crimes must be paid and their record of sin wiped clean before they can enter Heaven. That makes the cleansing of your sins more valuable than money or gold! That also makes Jesus’ payment and forgiveness of your sins literally the offer of a lifetime―an eternal lifetime! Remember, your soul is worth infinitely more to Him than all the money in the world! Run the race of life to win the eternal Prize. When you hit the finish line and take your last breath, will you have banked on good works, luck, or chance to take you to Heaven? Or will you repent and trust in the cross of Jesus Christ to settle your sin debt with God? Jesus is the Grand Prize Who gives true riches to believers-eternal life with Him in Heaven forever!
