@@ericb3301 not necessarily. Suicide squeeze means the runner on 3rd takes off for the plate as the ball is being delivered, so if the batter misses the bunt the runner is fucked. More risk involved than a plain sacrifice

Not all that rare. At least any more so than any squeeze bunt. After all...there is no better time to strike out with a fouled off bunt than on a suicide squeeze. Better to bunt foul for the third strike than to simply bunt through the first pitch and leave the runner at third hung out to dry.

The best ones are when the pitcher anticipates it and puts it in a hard spot to bunt and the batter still gets it down... although sometimes the pitcher knows it was coming because the batter squared too soon.

The first highlight isn't a squeeze play. It was a very good bunt, especially with the 3rd baseman back, but the runner didn't break for home until the throw was made and no one was covering home. It was smart baserunning and terrible defensive decision making, but it wasn't a squeeze play.

And how many of these older videos would have halted the game for 10 minutes while the umpires checked the replay? And how many MORE would have halted the game for 2-3 minutes while the team on defense stalled so that their "replay guy" in the blubhouse could have watched the replays on TV and called out to the manager to tell them whether or not to challenge?

Since squeeze is a matter of intention, you could argue the first one is a failed squeeze. But nah, on a squeeze you bunt to the first base side so the 3B doesn't have the opportunity to tag the runner. It's a bunt for a hit.

@jjlenny
6 жыл бұрын
The first one was not a suicide, nor a safety squeeze. A suicide runner breaks when the pitcher releases the ball. A safety occurs when the runner breaks after the ball is put in play and sees that he can score. In the first one, the runner broke after the ball was thrown to first, so it it technically not a squeeze. Fyi.

Why is the squeeze always with one out
@L1N3R1D3R
7 жыл бұрын
Jaden Arias Well, it can't be with two outs because the fielders would prioritize the force out, making the run not count. It's more common with one out than no outs because with no outs, it's likely that the offense would want to try to get on base to keep the inning going; plus, it's easier to get a runner to third with one out than with no outs.

To me, squeezing and bunting are cheap ways of playing baseball. It shows the pitcher that you'd rather tap a ball on the ground and leg it out than hit a home run. Bunting, just pitiful.
