The Marineluchtvaartdienst started in 1917 with some confiscated German Floatplanes, in 1918 followed by some Spijker aircraft. In 1919 some 40 Van Berkel WA floatplanes were ordered. Fokker Aircraft Factories was the next supplier of aircraft in 1926 followed by Dornier for the delivery of the Dornier Wal for the Indian waters. The PBY Catalina came during the second World War and this versatile aircraft was replaced by the Martin PBM Mariners. After 1961 only landbase aircraft were in the inventory.
