I make soap as a hobby, and have a little education on how oils affect skin. If you have sensitive skin, most fragrance and essential oils will irritate the skin with no carrier. If you have “normal” skin, essential oils like clove, cinnamon, and tea tree can irritate the skin without a carrier. As a hobbyist, I make sure to check with the oil manufacturer on how much base oil (olive/coconut/etc) is needed to offset the skin irritation factor on the oil being used for fragrance. These huns recommending to put essential oils directly on skin are nuts.

@@ericapierson-way213 I just found out one of my friends I made while living in Japan turned into a major DoTerra up line, and we got into the conversation about the digestion of essential oils. She was making cookies with essential oils mixed in, and feeding them to kids. I asked her if she thought it was it was okay (I was under the impression she was a bottom level person and didn’t know better, this was before she told me she was higher up), and she gave me this huge spiel on how “well it’s okay because it’s NATURAL!” and “you’re just listening to propaganda, you should do your own research and decide,” “well the BOTTLE says it’s okay to put in your mouth,” and all of the usual MLM/EO defense tactics. But like you mention with your mom - I REALLY hope no one ends up getting hurt. DoTerra in particular is WAY out of line in telling people that you can ingest these oils. So irresponsible.

There's kind of inherent racism to this hun moving to "the heart of Africa" (the lack of specificity is sus) and becoming the great healer to the village with her oils. The people there had been caring for and healing themselves for hundreds of years; unless you are setting up a medical clinic, you are not doing them some great service. You can spot the white savior racist rhetoric by imagining them telling the identical story about a village in rural Switzerland. Do you think the story would come across the same if she had talked about "healing" a poor unfortunate village in the Alps with no medical clinic?

I ended up feeling super uncomfortable and quit very soon after I joined. I then started working with reputable oil companies and started taking legitimate oils classes. Unfortunately I ended up developing migraines and I can no longer be around essential oils much at all. I didn’t finish my aroma therapy training, but I went through enough for DoTerra and Young Living to really make me uncomfortable - so much over and incorrect usage of oils - especially with young kids. I had somebody in an MLM that claimed that my autoimmune disorder was caused by chemicals in food and stress. However, the worst group of people I have had to deal with were those predatory all natural stores that claim that if you take their products that it will cure your disease and condition. I once went into such an establishment with my grandma who has a thyroid condition and overheard the lady behind the counter claim that if my grandmother stopped taking her prescribed medication and went on their tablets, that her thyroid condition would be cured... Along with following a strict diet of removing practically everything healthy and going on fermented celery juice. Overheard another person convince a desperate stage two cancer sufferer to stop her treatment to take their products labeled as Cancer on the side of the jar. Unfortunately, the woman listened to the naturopath or whatever they are called over what I as somebody studying biotechnology (at the time) had to say. It's sad to see how many people are out there preying on sick and desperate people that are usually in a life and death struggle, and all for the financial benefit of the predator. Regardless of whether it is an MLM or not... It's heartbreaking, and I have definitely been a victim of that to some magnitude due to my own health condition.

That last Young Living hun - she isn't allowed to make any of those health claims. 0%. I know you already know this, but. You can't actually legally say any of that stuff about the oils. She could be reported to her company and to the FTC. With that being said, I assume she believes all of this because it's what she hears from the other YL huns on a daily basis - her uplines, her team, any social media groups she might be in. I would argue that a lot of the members who are higher up the pyramid know better than to blatantly make these claims online to the general public. When I was in YL I was always warned that after so many times getting caught by YL compliance my account would be cancelled - I think they give you 3 or 4 times to correct any "mistakes" you may have made while posting online. However, in private groups and private conversations and in-party events and parties - all bets are off. They will say anything about their products to rope other women in to being oily with them. 🤣

As a qualified aromatherapist, essential oils should not be stored like that on open shelves. Esssentials oils have a shelf life, some shorter, some longer, but the storage conditions can drastically shorten that shelf life - and using rancid or out of date essentials can drastically increase the risk of a skin reaction!

Ya know, the oil MLMs always give me a good laugh because they act like there's no possible way any of this could be bad or cause any sort of allergic reaction for anyone because its "all natural," but I'm sitting over here, allergic to grapefruit and orange extract specifically only on my face, unable to smoke the devil's lettuce because it gives me killer migraines, and if I spend more than 20 minutes locked in close quarters with cats, I start having an extremely severe almost asthmatic reaction to their fur. Its almost like anyone can be allergic to anything, regardless of how natural it is. It probably won't heal me and I could definitely have a bad reaction to it. They're not that great, please calm down, oily babes lol

I’m allergic to capsicums (peppers). The number of people who act like I’m faking it or can’t possibly be allergic to bell peppers, or “how can you not eat Mexican food?” (Or “just pick the peppers out,” like everything wasn’t cooked together,” sigh), or whatever, is kind of scary and kind of annoying. Like you said, people can be allergic to anything. Why is that so hard for them to grasp? ETA: bee stings are “natural,” too, but we all know some are allergic to them (as I am). Wool is a natural fiber, but my mom, myself, and my daughters itch like crazy if we touch it.

I've been a high school teacher for 15 years and I agree with your teacher gift PSA! My most cherished gifts are things students made specifically for me (ornaments, cards, artwork, etc) and gift cards! I prefer Dunkin but I still get Starbucks ones sometimes. Luckily I have a coworker friend who will buy the Sbux cards from me and then I put the money in my Dunkin app 😆 We don't need lotions, candy, or other cheap stuff. In fact, I'd much rather just have a nice thank you card than some knick-knacks or old MLM products 😅

As somebody that is currently in a severe bout of depression, including moments where it is absolutely scary due to my downward spiral, I get what Dray is saying with the mental health aspects of things. For me, it is difficult to get out of bed and even though I go to bed at a reasonable enough hour, I can't sleep which causes me to not have the energy to even want to wake up the next morning and I oversleep. I have lost interest in a lot of things that did bring me a lot of joy like books and writing. On my absolute worst day, I destroyed one of my bookcases and seriously injured myself in the process because of how bad things had gotten with my mental health. However, I don't like how she's using her past with mental health, skewing around the facts to make it seem like her life was saved by her MLM and suckering vulnerable and at risk people into her downline where the mental health and strain is going to get worse... Especially once these people realize that they are losing money and the friendships they had built up were all fake. Also, as somebody who is currently suffering through a huge mental health crisis. If I were listening to somebody who was literally mocking my issues and saying the most disgusting things- especially at the height of the spiral, it would have pushed me over the edge. Dray needs to realise that mental health is not something to make light of... Especially since allegedly she suffered from mental health before. However, I have heard accusations that she had taken others' stories of mental health and Frankensteined them into her own story, and if this is true... I am disgusted even more by this individual.

In relation to the NICU mom clip, I want to give some perspective on how a caring employer treats an employee in pain: I suffer from chronic pain and occasionally have flare-up days where I can’t even type or be awake because it’s too painful. On those days, all I need to do is alert my team, and we shift meetings and responsibilities as needed. I’ve never been forced to work through my pain or expected to put the company over my physical health. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen in corp america, but the support and accommodation I receive in my org would never be allowed in an MLM.

Clip 7 is baffling to me. I'm in the second year of medical school amd I don't have all the knowledge yet to debunk this but I desperately want to oh my god. What I do know is that in case of an allergic reaction, if it is severe the person can die very quickly and they need first an epinephrine (adrenaline) injection and then professional medical help, as soon as possible. DO NOT use oils for allergies, especially if they are severe allergies Edit: of course I am NOT a medical professional at this point so don't just take my word for it but do your research
