I'll never forget the day we signed him, as a young boy supporting rangers I loved it! growing up my old man always told me that the Catholic protestant thing was a load of nonsense so the fact he was a Catholic didn't bother me in the slightest. I support a football team, not a religion. what a signing!

brian murphy I’m a Catholic from Ireland who would never have supported Rangers. But back then and even more now I feel Mo Johnston did a great great thing,he helped smash down a wall of sectarianism. He became a fantastic success at Rangers and I’m glad, even though I never could cheer for them.History will be very kind to that man,I have no doubt.

He joined Rangers for the money. I still to this day find it hard to comprehend what Johnston done to a Celtic support that worshipped him. The man didnt know the meaning of the word loyalty. It was a masterstroke by Rangers though. It put Celtic back years and Souness admited it was part of his plan.

chunky monkeyjohn He joined for the success as well, to be fair. Agree with you that it was a hammer blow to Celtic's morale - if you're going to break your 'tradition' (not one I agreed with, personally) do it in style! As per Souness's autobiography title - no half measures! Best signing we ever made....

Johnston claimed to be a celtic fan but the money ruled him. If he enjoyed wearing that jersey then more fool him! No true celt ever anywhere would pull that over his head and vice versa. You look at Billy McNeill Paul mcstay jinky Tommy burns Lennon Henrik and then look at this! No comparison he was a mercenary who had no shame whatsoever so he is welcome in the annals of Ibrox history.keep him.

He was one of the great Rangers players..He didn't give a monkeys what any Bheggars thought. septic tried to shaft him and he was quite right not to play for them without decent wages. Gers offered him more and as a professional football player that was it.. eptic supporters were more upset than any Rangers fan, so that made him a great signing.

In hindsight, he went where the money was, and I respect that. However, as a former Celtic player he could and should have been a bit more respectful to the fans that had worshiped him just a few years earlier (for example, maybe explaining why things transpired the way they did and certainly not saying "I'll never play for another British club" and then signing for their bitter rivals within 2 weeks.) This whole fiasco also reflected badly on the Celtic management; business should have been done more professionally. Just my humble opinion...and I come from a family of die-hard Celtic fans. Have a good night all...
