There is exactly this thing that you described and even better all the games have zero ads and zero monetisation. All you need to pay is a low monthly subs for access to all the premium games library… Yes, that’s Apple Arcade but sadly it’s relative unpopularity has sent a clear signal to the market that this is not the right thing to do and not the smart way to go into mobile gaming industry. > Are people really that entitled to make money for the least amount of effort? Yeah, kinda. Or rather it's less entitlement as it is they're obligated to do the least amount of work for the most amount profit; since our economic system incentivizes the maximization of profit as opposed to providing a good service. You can't really achieve that if you're spending a lot of time developing something, given that thing being developed may not make its investment back and produce profit. This isn't to say that literally every developer/publisher prioritizes profit over having an engaging, good game of course but making money is a concern for them like it is in any other business. _I_ _don't_ _like_ _it_ _being_ _this_ _way,_ but that's just how it is at this time. Im sorry but no they aren’t. They are one of the most predatory mobile gaming companies in the market. They’ll make ridiculous updates that slow your progress down and leave you at a disadvantage if you don’t pay to catch up . Look at clash royale, easily one of the least f2p friendly games out there. Last few updates were literally just additional levels that changed nothing, price hikes to the pass while nerfing the f2p pass, and broken “evolutions” that require you to have certain cards maxed out and either grind for months or pay. Same shit is happening with brawl stars. Constant nerfs to f2p progression, getting rid of the ability to by the pass for gems which locks f2p players out of it. Additional levels that add nothing but a broken ass ability that made the overall amount of resources needed to max a character go up ~40%. The only one I’d say is still pretty f2p friendly is clash of clans and that’s because it’s more of a pay to skip the timers, instead of pay to unlock the op shit and win games.

Good video. I'm glad I was there at the time of those Gameloft games, those were fun man, the let's go whaling video is actually really good, and it was interesting to see the type of cringe exploits mobile developers have been coming up with and thinking of how this whole scene would've evolved if a different approach would've taken. It really is true that games were better before they figured out stuff and started copying each other lol, my favourite part was the booba game aawooga hentai in the end, which was the coolest and most relevant addition to this video. This makes me actually want to introduce some sort of market place, with good games only(we add the games, not just anybody can publish, public requests allowed), games that are made for the sake of making good games, and not profit, like how flash games used to get made back in the day and create a some good games of my own, perhaps showcase some great emulators as well, like ppsspp. I think someone will do this eventually though, and I have a feeling that mobile games will get better.

Back in 2000s, I remember some great games like PoP, GoW, Worms, etc. and there was a Hannah Montana game that was my guilty pleasure lmao. As the video says and so does your comment, the games are just copying each other, using the same formula that worked for one. This is why I don't even find any games on play store or apple store now. I downloaded a PS2 emulator and I can just relive those days.

@@KochinPleaseexplain I feel you man. I believe that the good games will eventually be brought up again and rediscovered, and always have people that remember them fondly and like them, maybe even remade with better technicalities keeping the exact feel intact, unlike the bad copy cash grabs which will have a limited lifespan, well at least in my book. Also, I actually am sort of a zoomer myself, but grew up mainly on flash games, emulated GBA, NDS and PSP games and am looking into SNES and PS2 emulation now. I am from a third world country and I don't think I know anybody who I can relate with on this, I just kinda randomly found these things while pirating games. I think if I somehow found these games, and figured out how to play them, when I don't know anybody else that has(except a handful of exceptions who have probably completely forgotten it now), there probably will be people in the future who will also come across these and see the good things about them. I think so Idk lol. It really sucks that they stopped the support for flash. I wanna one day make a library of that as well, with games like Bloons TD 5, Strike Force Heroes, Mousecity Point & Click Games, Sonny, Super Adventure Pals, Epic Time Pirates, Papa Louie: When Burgers & Sundaes attack, Cactus McCoy and Ben 10 game creator, GameGape, Kongregate and Armor Games, Miniclip games, and so much more and somehow make it really easy to access for everybody.

@@CraftCamp2 in my experience, I stopped playing Among Us because my friends stopped playing it too and playing with random people is frustrating. I stopped playing Genshin Impact because I can't keep up with the events (was "busy" at one point in life and can't play much) and when I did have the time to catch up, there's so much new content and I'm too lazy to play it again, also because my phone is not that powerful and the game lags so much after recent updates. I didn't pay attention to the gacha aspect and didn't spend a single cent in the game, my main is a free character that you get from quests, even, and I can clear most of the game (Spiral Abyss excluded). I do agree that grinding for resources is harder if you're free to play. TLDR: those two games do not die in weeks, depending on the type of person playing it.

It would be so hilariously ironic if this video was sponsored by: RAID SHADOW LEGENDS!!! (but for real, I really wish our Advanced tech could be utilized to it's full creative potential. It's absolutely insane how much gaming as a whole has reverted in progression compared to the days when I was a teenager in the 2000's. I so wish we could take the best parts of the previous era's and BLEND them with the modern day technological advancements and software capabilities that devs and players only dreamed of having access to. Yet they are waisting it & basically ruining the gaming industry as a whole. I can't stand it. Things needs to change.)

I tend to get bored of games with ads, and also of games with timers and payments. I guess I'm just too poor and too impatient for them to grab me.

I have some actually good mobile games that DONT show ads! Every game mentioned here doesnt show ads unless YOU, the player actually asked to be shown an ad for some reward. 1. Tower Of Winter: A Rogue-like RPG that is more difficult than driving a car. Its story is that humanity is plagued by an endless winter which's source is believed to be in a tower to the far north. Trust me this game goes a lot more deeper than what I thought. 2. Ninja Arashi 1/2: This game has less story and more gameplay, its a 2D platformer game where you are Arashi, a master ninja that can double-jump, has unlimited shurikens as his basic attack and a dash attack which is sometimes used as a mechanic to solve puzzles in the game. 3. Raspberry Smash: Another Rogue-like in which you are stuck in a weird world that some corrupt god put you in, I have recently started playing this game so no information available, but it is very fun to play so far.

Mobile had so much promise. When I was a teen, I would dream of the idea of smart phones; a single device that replaces the need to carry around a separate camera, music player, phone, etc. When smart phones really started to take off, I suddenly became interested in the idea of portable gaming again. Mobile games are so bad, I went and got a Nintendo Switch; I'm never looking back.

Great video, thanks man. All these 2d mobile games are big part of my childhood, it was so cool to see them again. Obviously mobile gaming industry is in need of a huge revamp, but im glad that there are plenty of decent games without endless flow of shops, money currencies, agressive advertising and oversexualised characters like Alto's Adventure, Deadcells, Stardew Valley, Shadowverse, Terraria and so on. Also oversexualized games shouldn't be allowed imo. I mean look at SF6 advertisement, they show Manon and Chun Li bakery all over their trailers, im pretty sure that huge majority of casual players gets hooked up for that reason and not for gameplay. Same with Nier, Atelier Ryza and many other games. Sex appeal was a really good bait to lure consumer with since birth of advertisment industry and they are even better for videogames, considering demographics of gamers (mostly young single men)

MAN ark mobile was where it was because it was free and a buggy mess that was just fun because i could play with a friend and get up to the most fun and broken things. we watched entire empires grow and crumble due to time. we made friends and enemy's. I didn't mind the low poly because it had character and a unique feel, this also gave it the advantage that it can run on most devices. I didn't mind the the advertisements because they were not mandatory and they gave you premium currency for free. then they removed the advertisements. it became less fun because it became WAY harder to get the currency for free, and because of that we could no longer do the broken strats that gave us similar power to people who invested into the game. and then it became a slog where it wasn't fun and then I stopped playing. I still remember the fun but it just feels sad knowing that it can never happen again.

If you want a good mobile game(and If you like games of the rogue like/hack and slash genre), I’d recommend Soul Knight or Otherworld Legends, although Soul Knight has like half of the characters locked behind a paywall it’s still very fun to me, and Otherwold Legends at first glance may look like you need to pay for every single character, but later on you can do daily activities to exchange those points for character fragments, allowing you to get them for free. Now a small introduction to both of these, Soul Knight is a game inspired by Enter the Gungeon, and Otherworld Legends is a rogue-like hack and slash. (Side note: sorry if the whole text seems chaotic or hard to read.)

A few mobile games that are actually really good: Monument valley (1 & 2) A puzzle game based on optical illusions, impossible geometry, and perspective. One of those puzzle games that needs a whole new way of thinking to navigate the world. It's setting is beautiful, it's story is cryptic when it wants to be, and it does a fantastic job with its atmosphere. Data wing A (driving? -ish?) Game. You're a simple piece of code in a computer, designed to deliver data packets across the system. Mother, the central AI, has gained some rudimentary level of sentience as the system ages and becomes obsolete.

Honestly I’ve been in all sides of this. I loved some mobile games as a kid, then played some like clash of clans and clash royale while I was in high school and such, then hated mobiles, then played shitty gacha games and put some money on them for a while, then I hated mobile games again, then I played some shitty mu style mobile idle games and whaled like I never did before just because feeling like the N1 player in the server is so fulfilling in a weird fucked up way. I’ve never felt that before but I was proud of that even tho I was putting like $50 usd daily on that shitty game to just keep being the number one player. Then once I had to pay the credit card I decided to uninstall and haven’t played a single mobile game since then. It’s weird, it’s a weird world that even knowing their predatory tactics and artificial gameplay and shitty game profession that forces you to spend money, you still fall for it. Also Gunz was AMAZING I played it every single day as a kid, and I agree it’s one of the hardest mechanical most skill intensive games out there. Something similar was S4 League. But my personal favorite was and always will be Rakion. The skill ceiling on that game was insane and I’ve never played a game that has a better combat system since then. It’a a shame they ruined it a long time ago.

Although I never played idle angles, I did briefly play Azur Lane. That game, and the Touhou project showing me the true potential of SHMUPs, made me decide to become a game developer. There is so much wasted potential for English-language erogames, it feels like games are usually either good (like the Touhou project) or sexy (Azur lane, etc.). I'm trying to get my first game out by the end of the year. I like the idea of unlocking characters as you play, but I don't like the randomization or gotcha mechanics. I think that Ace Combat 7 and Project Wingman both have good systems for this, where Ace Combat 7 has a tech tree, and Project Wingman has a list, and you directly exchange in-game currency for the planes. I think that the tech tree could be adapted into a family tree, where you can unlock friends and relatives of characters you have. I think this would work particularly well with a fantasy or sci-fi setting, where characters live much longer than in real life. Alternatively, I like the idea of unlocking characters for achieving certain things. Like doing a pacifist run as a certain character, or staying on the right side of the screen. Still, all of this stuff is for my next game. This first game will not have unlockable anything.

Modern mobile games (at least the ones being advertised) don't feel like games anymore, they feel like manipulation. I can't remember seeing a single mobile game ad in the past few years that wasn't for a type of game discussed in the video. Triple A games are starting to lean more and more into malpractice too with less naturally unlockable content, more microtransactions, and predatory seasonal expansions/battlepasses that encourage unhealthy forms of gaming and further payments to make sure you complete it to get all the cosmetics before they're no longer avaliable, or worse sunsetted. They can't keep getting away with this

Considering how hard it is to find a mobile game with actual quality these days, i decided to list some recent mobile games that is genuinely good and worth a try (free games only). *Sky: Chlidren of the Light* It's featured in this video. Sky is one of the best free mobile game to date. I found this one to be one of the more grindy mobile games, but the game itself is super chill, so it won't get frustrating. *Postknight 2* Postknight 2 has my favourite artstyle out of any mobile game. It also has a unique combat system that is engaging, but at the same time allows you to complete a level by just idling, which makes grinding here much less painful. You can also speed trough the main quest rather easily without much grinding. *Call of Duty: Mobile* One of the few remaining mobile shooters without Pay2Win mechanics. The Guncraft system here allows you to customize any guns in the game to your liking. Of course, you need to level up those guns to unlock attachments and stuffs, but except you want to try everything in one day, you should never feel the need to pay or grind excessively. *Interstellar Pilot 2* It's honestly unbelievable how generous the game's developers are. It's a space simulator game with tons of options in terms of what can you do in it. All the game's contents are completely free, and there's not even a single ad. The only thing to pay here is to enable cheats in the open world mode, but not everyone really needs it. *Genshin Impact* A controversial pick here. To be honest, Genshin can drain as much of your cash as a predatory mobile game can be. But behind that, this is one of the highest quality mobile game ever. Rivaling some tripleA titles, dare i say. Don't talk about the game's community, though. A game this big is bound to have a toxic community.

This video got me thinking about how mobile games were like back in the day. Fruit ninja, cut the rope, angry birds, doodle jump, and Plants vs Zombies were such addicting classics without all the BS that are in mobile games nowadays. Such a shame that mobile gaming headed the direction it did. Edit: Ofc there’s still good mobile games coming out, at the time I was just referring to the industry as a whole and the games that the general population plays.
