Hey Emmy, I know the chances of you seeing this are Slim, but I just wanted to let you know that if you look at either end of your plastic wrap box , there is a small tab on each end. The way I see it, using a box mix is just as "from scratch" as getting the ingredients individually. All it is, is those ingredients already combined. The only work they did for you was put all of the ingredients in the same box instead of their own boxes, and shook it. You still do all of the baking and work on the consistencies of the mixture, plus the combining of the wet and dry ingredients, which is part of the chemical reaction baking necessitates. It's no less homemade just because the flour, powders, sodas sugars and salts happened to be in one box and not multiple. It saves so much time, and it tastes the same. ♡ I used to think it was a big difference, but Ann Reardon from How to Cook That convinced me otherwise. Everyone should watch How to Cook That!

Could something like this be done with rice crispies or rather something like rice crispy treats? Don't have much of a market here for things like mochi and I thought what would this be like with rice crispy treat fixings in the middle instead? I wouldn't mind trying this recipe honestly it looks good but I sorta wonder about using ingredients that are more easily obtainable.

Hiiii! Delicious recipe, made it myself. The mochi was really chewy and went well with the brownies. I put a little less sugar in them, as my family preferrs. Instead of potato starch, I used flour, which, to me, worked the same. The brownies itself were so fudgy and delicious!!! I also used milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, which most likely tastes sweeter. Overall, great recipe, and will make again!! ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

I think about it every time I see a 'hard times' video, but this one reminded me, too: you should check out Jack Monroe's budget recipes. Her Guinness Brownie recipe is my go-to. It doesn't care what fat you put in, it doesn't care what liquid you put in, it comes out the same with bottom-shelf budget chocolate as friggin Lindt, and it takes maybe three minutes more than a box mix to make. Oooh, and sausagne. Sausagne is just good and right and everything you need on a bad day.
