@@centurionquincy3899 We showed the rest of the world that the British could be defeated. The wars also cost them so much that it started the decline of their empire. These factors made it not worth it to try to retain Canada at any costs.

@@alexandercanella4479 .....that’s not really accurate. I don’t know what they teach you in America about Canadian history, but I guess they don’t go into as much detail as we do. Bringing Canadian products to Britain and trying to maintain governance so far away (it would take about half a year for things to get sorted because it had to go all the way to Britain and back) was super expensive for Britain. So after Canada proved itself capable of governing and leading itself, both in politics and warfare (Vimmy ridge, Paschendale, etc.) Canada sent a proposal to Britain, essentially saying: “you don’t like trying to control us because we are far away and think different, and we want to elect our own leaders. Let us be our own country” And they signed it. It didn’t have anything to do with Britain losing to the US. It was almost 100 years after your war that we got independence peacefully. If anything, I would say America inspired Canada to do things diplomatically, instead of drag both sides into a bloody war. (Just in case it sounds like one, that isn’t an insult to America. They did what was needed for independence)

@@centurionquincy3899 We tried to peacefully gain independence for years. At first we didnt even ask for independence, we just wanted representation in politics. But of course Canada didnt gain its independence solely because of the US. We were just the first domino to fall that ended up starting the fall of British imperialism. Between the revolutionary war and the war of 1812, we cost the empire so much. A few decades later, the Anglo-Afghan war was the next domino to fall. Between then and WW1, numerous countries and colonies gained independence peacefully but WW2 was the final straw for the empire. They were too broke to hold together the empire. Hell, they just finished paying back the WW2 loans from the US a few years ago lol
