I grew up with the Mod Squad. I couldn't wait till the next week to see another episode. Shows like this become woven into your being; the actors, the theme, and the music. I can watch the shows today and they take me back to my childhood sitting in front of the TV completely absorbed by the series. It was the Mod Squad that sparked a passion in me to become a cop in my later years. The opening credits were so dynamic and the closing, to watch the camera zoom away from them and here that theme. Damn...I miss those years. Love this show...You will be greatly missed Peggy Lipton. Such a beautiful spirit and gorgeous woman.

So true. Television productions then were often like mini movies and the music that accompanied them were often so perfect. The tune you heard was atmospheric and enhanced what was happening on the screen. They don’t do this today. There’s no creativity I guess. :( It’s probably why I seldom watch anything NEW. I’m just a 60s TV junkie and I love ❤️ it!

@@jupitr2 So do I, i love it. Back then tv shows were telling stories of real people, with real problems and often will give closure or hope where was needed, even movies were totally a different planet compared to nowadays. Maybe we will go back to that at one point. with alternative productions than the sell outs in Hollywood. for sure they are not doing very well with their virtual signalling garbage.

This theme in the closing credits has always been one of the best. I've been bothered ever since the day that closing credits on televised programs and films were deemed irrelevant in favor of promoting the next thing. So much music and talent has gone unrecognized as a result.

+Elizabeth Lilley I sorta think it's funny how tv/sponser minds finally figured out another way to shorten shows, shorten credits to one musical note, and the rights in one page of tiny letters in the blink of an eye & squeeze in even more ads…the bombardment/ultra saturation of advertising has to have unforeseen negative psychological consequences..I'd love to be around in 1000 years & look back at the nut jobs of today…"it was all about the almighty buck,to those people"

well said...but much texture and character has been lost in so many ways over the decades...we can blame big money and corporate greed but in the end we let things get lost...greed only has as much influence as we give it and partake in ourselves. I know its like blaming the victim and I totally agree with your sentiments...but sadly its our own (societies) indifference lack of integrity that allows for what ends up as being the lamenting of things lost.

also listen to how how people speak in this and any film or tv show or in the media in this time and decades before. No Up-speak or vocal fry...no "so um like you know". Something happened in the 80's that changed diction and how we speak forever. Its a tragedy how a large measure of people speak, articulate and express themselves now.

Small point, and fans are aware of this, but the members of the Mod Squad were not really police. They were on probation and serving out their time working for the police undercover. That's why they didn't carry guns and sometimes used their own names while on assignment. There is an occasional reference to them having to meet with their probation officer. However, I get why Pete would get 5 years (length of the series) probation for theft and Linc 5 years for arson, but Julie gets 5 years for vagrancy ? That must have been some heavy-duty vagrancy she was doing!

The pilot actually was shot in '67 but didn't air until the fall of '68. It isn't uncommon for pilots to be shelved until the networks decide to pick the show up & order more shows. I believe Bud Ruskin the series creator actually tried as early as 1960 to get a network to buy into Mod Squad. But as it turned out, few years later made a world of difference. It was also good for ABC. It was the youngest of the 3 networks back then, and so they did more to appeal to younger viewers...Batman, Bradys, Partridge Family, Bandstand, etc.

Bentom86 You are right in a way. There were two test pilots produced by Paramount Television in 1977 that did not see the light of day until later: _Nero Wolfe_ on December 19, 1979 (ABC; NBC would air the weekly series in January 1981), and _The Final Eye_ on August 1, 1982 (NBC).
