Hi for anyone having trouble selecting the curve after you have selected the faces to extrude I may have a couple of solutions. There seems to be a bug or perhaps it's as designed but when choosing face selection through the Modeling Toolkit panel it can prevent you from selecting the curve. I suggest changing your components through the marking menu by holding down the RMB and then choosing face mode. You should be able to select the curve after that. The second way is after you have selected the faces you want to extrude, open up the Outliner and then hold down CTRL and select the curve from there. Hopefully one of these methods works for you. If not you may need to reset your preferences.

Hi thank you for supporting this channel. I wanted to keep the low poly series as beginner friendly as possible while still offering new tips. It's difficult to find an optimal speed for everyone however I will work on the presentation of other videos so that they don't drag too much. Your feedback is much appreciated so thanks!

What's the difference between this method and just making a branch and "inserting" it into the tree? That the texture would eventually set differently unless we carefully match it with the trunk's? Can we use this method for something more complex too or that's another kind of workflow? Sorry about having lots of questions, trees have always been a confusing subject to me.
@DigitalDreambox

Inserting meshes into each other is pretty common in games. You see it even in AAA games when whoever is set dressing has created rock formations from several meshes. For low poly I see it all the time though I would prefer to keep things optimized when possible like not sticking a bunch of meshes together to make one bush for example. The two benefits of this method that I can think of is that extruding from one mesh allows you to softly deform it with the Soft Modification Tool afterwards. The other is that you can easily convert it to a high poly mesh by smoothing it out for sculpting. You can merge things using the Boolean > Union operation but it can be unpredictable at times.

@@DigitalDreambox Thank you! I mostly work with games, that's why they never bothered to tell us the difference, but I really appreciated the soft selection and sculpting options from your low poly tree and rocks video, so at least now I have an idea of what to choose and why! ❤️❤️

why does the cv curve line does not follow whenever i want to move/place the branch somewhere else? is there a tool that i can union/group them?
@DigitalDreambox
3 жыл бұрын
Hi you want to move the branch normally you would move the curve. Maya gets a little weird if you try and move the geometry and curve together unless you delete the history and doing that breaks the link which you can't relink as far as I know. One solution for if you want the same branch on another area of the tree is to duplicate the curve and use it to extrude another part of the tree body. I may have misunderstood your question so let me know if this helps.

Does the cv curve tool only work for the 2020 maya version, because it won’t let me click the curve, and I have the faces selected, but it won’t let me select the curve.

@@DigitalDreambox I find the answer! It's ridiculous but... If we choose selection by marketing menu it's working !!! But if we do it from Modeling toolkit it don't worked!!! Can you imagine this ☺ Thank you for feedback and for lessons. I am really happy to learn by you 👊
