The scenics are stellar….as we’ve come to expect. But good lord I’m just as impressed by the job you’ve done masking off sensitive areas. Looks like the work of a surgeon. When you get into this level of detail time flys .so you spend the time but you don't panic because your so happy with the results. When you show this to others they don't get it and start with " you'll never get done at that rate". If you don't listen to them or yourself for that matter, just keep working. It takes advantage of momemtom.

Out of all the things I'm learning from your videos, time management is probably the most important! Now, rather than spending hours trying to completely finish a portion of layout, I just stop and walk away for an hour. Or, even a day. It makes all the difference for the final outcome. When we become frustrated, craftsmanship suffers. Patience turns into virtue!

The one clear message that I got from this video is "take your time". This has to be the hardest thing for me - I take time to consider what I want to do, take time to do the initial work, but then rush to finish it off. Please keep the videos coming as your message will finally get through to me.

I tend to move away from a signature scene before I finish it to do another, because it helps me to re-approach the former scene with a fresh look. This is why I build up layers. It's safer this way and you can add to it, or walk away, to revisit another day. Cheers.

I have a question, Boomer. You use Pumice gel. Now, the price of Golden products in Europe + P&P is too much to be honest (a tub of Fiber paste comes out at almost 30 Euro). Being more of a concept than recipe guy anyway, I thought of an alternative. Grout. Should work, right? What do you think? Your north shore looks just right. It comes down to your basic construction guidelines: 1. solid structure, 2. textures and finally 3. colour and detail. Knowledge of materials and technique. And reality keenly observed and recreated in miniature. Today's lesson was just what the doctor ordered. (yes, I play the good doctor myself… ) And your work is the best form of medication ever, apart from doing some work myself. Which is what I'm doing tonight. The coffee is ready. Thank you Boomer.
@boomerdiorama

@boomerdiorama
2 жыл бұрын
50/50 Elmer's or Carpenter's glue works great. I won't use for detailed scenery like this though. Too risky and hard shell for me. Try ballasting points on a turnout with Elmer's and big trouble. The former can also have a sheen to it I don't like. Matte medium is my go to scenery cement. But each to his or her own. Cheers.

PVA is a wood glue that dry's clear and flat, in the UK we use it to for bedding down track ballast and applying before scattering grass etc on landscape, so my guess is that it's similar just a different name in another country.👍

Beautiful work as always..... another question if you don't mind. Appreciate your help. I've been pricing all of the matte mediums that you've been using: Below are all Michael's Craft store prices in US dollars: Golden Super Matte....................$40/16oz. Liquitex Matte Medium...............$24/16oz. Mod-Podge Matte-Mat-Mate......$10/16oz. They all, according to the videos and their labels dry clear but there is a significant price difference. Is there really a difference in #1 their quality, & #2 their use depending on scenery application? The Mod-Podge is obviosly the best bang for your buck. If you thinned it 25% to 75% H2O that gives you 64 oz's ! At Michael's after they're daily 20% discounts that comes in at only $8. Could you exclusively use it for all ground scenery, including balasting? What are your thoughts.. you use all 3. Respect your opinion. Or should you use each one for more specific areas? Thanks as always.
@boomerdiorama
