This project is geared towards designing a system that can locate the faulty points in an underground cable in order is to facilitate quicker repair, improve the system reliability, and reduced the outage period to the barest minimum. The underground cable system is very useful for transmission lines mainly in metropolitan cities, airports,s and defense services. When faults occur, the power flow is redirected towards the fault and the supply to the consumer is impeded. To achieve this, the wavelet analysis with artificial neural network (ANN), is used to detect the distance of fault point from the source end within a maximum distance of 10km is calculated using the principle of time-domain reflectometry. In this paper, the specimen used is simulated for a different type of faults. Series inductance and shunt capacitance are taken as distributed parameters and series resistance is considered as lumped. Also, shunt conductance is neglected which is a considerable approximation for underground lines. The MATLAB Simulink (R2010b) software is utilized to show the Simulink model, in which Fourier blocks and scope at sending, receiving, and fault points are used to obtain the fundamental components of voltage and current in the underground link system.
