I agree 100%. I met James a few times over the years, and he was a lovely guy- quite the contrast to the image he often portrayed in the media. I also agree that 'I Am The Voice Left From Drinking' is a great book. If you havent read his follow up book from 2007- 'I Am The Voice Left From Rehab' - I thoroughly recommend it. A really frightening story.

I really loved Sean's gravelly, guttural, edgy vocals, but sweet James gave the band a melodic softness. He was my first ever teen rock star crush. Models my first ever live gig. Wollongong Town Hall all ages July '85, w support 'I'm Talking'. I'm down the front with all the screaming girls going nuts whenever James came near. I guess I was paralysed standing quite still, in quiet awe of him. He noticed. He reached down for my hand, wide smile, all the other girls scrambling for him but he wasn't interested. I reached my hand up, he took it and held it, deep eye contact. Being a 15yo girl, ha!, I'd brought a little teddy bear thinking if I had the chance to pass it to him, I would. I handed it up with my other hand to his surprised amusement. He clamped it into the top of his guitar for the rest of the gig. Funny how moments like that stay with you. I think of him sometimes. When he passed, I didn't take it in. I didn't want to see or read anything about it and was in denial for years. I hope he's floating somewhere dreamy and beautiful.

Is the song about an australian guy who was posted to the war in Vietnam. Did not want to be there and wished he was back in Australia with his mates or able to fly to Barbados with his girlfriends. But realising he is fucked forever by his experiences in Vietnam decides to commit suicide in Vietnam realising he will never get to visit Barbados with his girlfriends and mates and live the good life as he is fighting this unpopular war in Vietnam with no way out and he commits suicide thinking about it. Thats the story that comes at me when watch this music video. Very good 1980s Australian song I think maybe about a guys experience in the Vietnam War? Aussies made good stuff in the 1980s. Made some good music in that era. Aussie 80s bands I understand were especially popular in the U.S. I understand back then.
