NOTE: I made 2 mistakes for the 1900-1941 areas of the video. The border disputes (which resulted in a treaty in 1881) were not shown, nor the Guna in the Darien.
Ever since the foundation of Colombia, it has had an unstable past. Leaders, dictators, and civil wars were common among the early history of Colombia. This resulted in a tight power hold by the Liberal Party and Conservative Party, leading to usual violence between the two. From the late 1890s to the early 1900s, a series of violence between Liberals and Conservatives erupted. By the '50s, the Communist Party had also begun to rise in power, leading to a Liberal-Conservative alliance known as the National Front. Enraged, Communist guerrillas from La Violencia decided to abandon the peace deal and formed Republics in the mountains near the capital. In 1964, the Army invaded, and the FARC were born. From there on, a bloody conglomerate of Drug and Ideological hate was born, leading to the formation of the ELN, AUC, AGC, EPL, M-19, and other groups. Right-Wing Paramilitaries heavily involved in the drug trade against Left-Wing Guerrillas heavily involved in the drug trade. In 2016, the group FARC, or now renamed FARC-EP, made peace. The peace was soon broken by the next president and dissidents erupted out of the situation. The ELN and AGC are now the top dogs, but the AGC called a ceasefire in January of 2023, and the ELN have begun talks to begin one. The future is uncertain, but the past 100 years of Colombia's history have been unfortunate enough.
