Thousands of Americans are realizing their dream by leaving everything behind to hit the road. A popular trend, "Van Life", encourages them to explore the most beautiful regions of the United States behind the wheel of their vans.
The hashtag #vanlife has become a global phenomenon, with millions of views for the breathtaking photos and videos shared on social media by these new kind of travelers. Unlike their predecessors from the 70s, they are hyperconnected nomadic workers, and their community continues to grow. They even have their own annual festival in Oregon.
We followed these Americans who gave up everything for a minimalist life in a 10m² van. At 32, Katie sets off on the road alone, building her own van, thus starting a new life after leaving her job as an accountant, not recognizing herself in the metro-work-sleep routine. Alan and Liz, two young retired entrepreneurs, set out at the age of sixty to explore the most beautiful parks in California at the wheel of an over-equipped 4x4 van.
On social networks, Emily and Corey are followed by 175,000 people. Emily's yoga poses in sumptuous natural settings are so successful that this influencer couple can make a living from their passion. In Florida, we met Lamar and Ashley, who are raising their little girl on the road. Between odd jobs and waking up at the beach, they managed to build a family life in their house on wheels.
