The families say directly in many of the other videos here that they face jealousy and tension constantly. I believe this is an unhealthy lifestyle, not because of bigotry or hatred, they seem very nice, but because I've heard so much testimony about how hard it is for the woman to bear her husband being with other women.

When the interviewer asked the women why they felt that sharing their husband would draw them closer to God, they really couldn't give a reasonable explanation. That's because there is no reasonable explanation!! Even if they dont get public assistance they are still ripping off the government and the rest of us in the process. So only 1 woman is technically married and the other wives get to claim they are single mothers with a bunch of kids, so they get back more in taxes when they file. Then...if they live in 1 home they are only paying property tax on 1 home but then send 25 kids to public school. Property taxes go towards our public schools and is based on 2.5 children in each home not 25. So they are only paying a 10th of what they should in property tax. Also... Only 1 wife is legal and the other 2 and all their kids, would be eligible for the ACA. Sure they have to pay a premium, but the gov subsidizes a big portion for single mothers not making enough to pay for health insurance for half a dozen kids. I am positive this man does not have a health insurance policy that covers him, 25 kids and 3 adult women. My friend has a small business with less than 30 employees. Like 20 something at most and has a group policy for everyone. She pays over 10k a month for it. So unless this guy is a millionaire, i dont see how they are not ripping off the system even if they do not get any direct assistance.

In 1987, a poll conducted by the student newspaper at the university of California at Berkeley asked the students whether they agreed that men should be allowed by law to have more than one wife in response to a perceived shortage of male marriage candidates in California. Almost all of the students polled approved of the idea. One female student even stated that a polyganous marriage would fulfil her emotional and physical needs while giving her greater freedom than a monogamous union.

According to "under the banner of heaven": "To avoid prosecution [for polygamy], typically men in Colorado City will legally marry only the first of their wives; subsequent wives, although “spiritually married,” to their husband by Uncle Rulon, thus remain single mothers in the eyes of the state. This has the added benefit of allowing the enormous families in town to qualify for welfare and other forms of government assistance. Despite the fact that Uncle Rulon and his followers regard the governments of Arizona, Utah and the United States as Satanic forces out to destroy the UEP, their polygamous community receives more than $6 million a year in public funds." If this information is false I hope that someone from the church will correct me. The family in the documentary do not live in that area, but presumably qualify for the same welfare.

That's a modern concept that each child needs to get that individual one-on-one attention in abundance. We know for a fact that, since ancient times couples have had large numbers of children. We also know that since ancient times the family bond has been way stronger than it is nowadays. We also know that. In ancient times the character of people was much more moral principles standards and values Integrity based. So now two parents have one child , and the child turns out to be a half a decent person. Whereas in ancient times Two people produce 12 children and at least 10 of them turned out to be very stand-up citizens. Nowadays what it seems like we mostly produced our broken women and cry, baby Males

A lot of the women do get benefits from the state as single mothers, something they try to hide. Callah Wentworth The problem is in your understanding. Adultery is a biblical term that describes the state of a woman having an extramarital affair or sex with a man other than her husband. That causes the man involved with her to be an adulterer. REAL women as you state in our western culture can divorce and marry over and over and be accepted. That is just serial adultery and whoredom. You would tell people not to judge her. The women in this family are very strong women not pathetic. A harem is an ancient term and those women had no choice. These women do have a choice. What I hear in your terminology is fear, greed, superiority, judgementalism, and pride ; in other words weakness and insecurity. I applaud this family and especially the women for their trusting God enough to trust their husband. Very impressive.

While I don't agree with polygamy done for religious reasons, but I don't see a problem with polygamy done out of love and companionship.

It is funny! In the western countries, you are not allowed to marry many wives or husbands because their law is against it, but you may identify yourself as gay or lesbian, their law allows it. My question is: which is more sensible and compatible with human nature, being a polygamist and polyandrist, or being gay and lesbian?

Even though these women CHOSE themselves to be involved with polygamy, whether due to their religious beliefs or love or whatever, I know that there is, to some degree, a pain involved with it too. But I guess they find the pain as an act of selflessness. Human nature was made to want to feel exclusive, both man and woman. I can see the pain in these women's eyes when they talk about who he slept with first and his eye getting caught on her twin, but in the end, it was all consensual.

Nope - women want one man to themselves and think men are built the same way. Men and women are built differently - something a lot of women don't want to accept

all i gotta say is to each their own i guess.. if society was able to come around for homosexual marriage and actually support it in the social media and incurrage kids to come out and speak up.. its only a matter of time before they come around to this.. and ppl can say no way! this is different and whatever but in the 1800 or even most part of the 1900 they would have said the same thing.. things are only bad until they are accepted..

I think it's a shame that a married man who cheats on his wife is NOT punishable by the legal system but men and women who make the choice to live a polygamous lifestyle can be thrown in jail! I realize that there are certain members of this fundamentalist religion that have crossed the boundaries and child sexual abuse should in no way EVER be acceptable, however consenting adults should be LEGALLY able to make whatever choice is right for them.

no one is brainwashed, its their lives and their decisions just because you don't understand someone's culture doesn't mean they're in the wrong. they are not harming anyone. I thought nowadays people are supposed to be open-minded and non judgmental of peoples life choices.

The social and legal services in the US, only supports two people in a marriage. They should be able to do what they want, but in this country, the government controls what goes on in a person's house.

Polygamist communities create all kinds of problems, not the least of which are the "Lost boys", throwaway male children who get in the way of older men who need additional young wives. They are thrown out to fend for themselves in their early teens. Another problem is the government aid that they require because normal household income does not support 24 children.

I can't say I understand all this. If it was a group that didn't believe in God then I wouldn't even have commented. I wouldn't agree with them when they talk about God because that doesn't line up with the word of God. The is a difference between Lust and Love which even its a problem in monogamy.

Its not as good as it looks, too many conflicts between families and what not, if these men are that desperate its far better to go for one night stand than be in relationship with more than one
