The Modern Scottish Classic Award exists to recognise an iconic album from Scotland’s past - pre-dating The SAY Award - that still inspires today. With the winner chosen by the artists making up The SAY Award Longlist each year, the prize truly encapsulates peer-to-peer artistic recognition and the strong sense of community, respect and civic pride that underpins Scotland’s music industry.
‘The Midnight Organ Fight’ by Frightened Rabbit was selected as 2021's winner.
Recorded during 2007 between studios at Bridgeport, Connecticut and Glasgow, 'The Midnight Organ Fight' is the band's second studio album and was released via Brighton-based indie label Fat Cat Records. It has been hailed by critics as one of the best breakup records of recent times.
The album has continued to receive recognition and accolades long after its release, and it is a truly deserving winner of the inaugural Modern Scottish Classic Award.
