Feel like the Becker BK2 would've been worth a mention. It's basically an ESEE 5 (which would be my "money-no-object" survival/rescue knife), but falls roughly between the ESEE and the CS SRK in price ($100-$250-$350) so it's a little more manageable to dump in the boot of a car compared to the ESEE. Not to mention, it's main cost saving "detractions" compared to the 5 (the plastic scales and cheap sheath), matter much less with a knife that you aren't planning on using/carrying regularly.

Cold Steel Magnum Warcraft Tanto in 3V with 12 inch blade for extra leverage to help pry shite open like a helicopter wreak or vehicle crushed by a tree or crumpled after a rollover, that was my theory anyway. At least added to the excuse... I mean... logical reasoning for carrying a foot long blade that looks like something a post apocalyptic comic book vampire slaying ninja would carry. Actually I genuinely think my logic was sound. I was being flown in helicopter or driving out into wilderness for firefighting and post fire mop up so the other purposes were as a machete in the viney crap along creeklines where fires edges often stall and smoulder, or to help break up smouldering timber (although chainsaw, axe and rakehoe do just fine for most of that most of the time... but shut up). So a I made my own category I guess: "Rescue Machete". Although I usually go with "Chopping Survival Knife".

Of yeah baby I've been mentally preparing for this moment for years! 20CV did great, but more importantly i could keep my mind off terrible career decisions and instead keep my mind busy thinking about how my other knives in other steel would have fared at the task. With 20cv at my hipi did just fine. Thanks Pete!

A good thought exercise, bu the best answers wouldnt be knives. Ultimately persuaded me to at least put an estwing hatchet in my truck box. Other thoughts were construction tools like big wood chisel, hammer, wrecking bars. Or maybe dedicated rescue tools. I know that kind of misses the point of the vid. Its just where my mind wound up.

In most States and Territories of Australia it's illegal to be in possession of a knife in public without a "genuine reason", and carrying for these sort of hypothetical scenarios would most likely not be accepted as a "genuine reason" by a court (because this would in practice allow knives to be carried publicly in almost any circumstance). And before anyone asks, a knife in your vehicle counts as "possession" for legal purposes, even if it's out of arm's reach or locked in a glovebox or the boot.
@daveyboy6985

A normal citizen is only ever going to be pulled over by the police for speeding, or some traffic offence in which case there'll never search your car for any weapon, unless you look like a criminal . So if you look respectful, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep any knife out of site. Just think of all the tradies that carry things that could easily be used as a weapon. As the law goes I know your right But sometimes the law is an ass. Ps I live in New Zealand , and that law would be the same here.

My current car knife is just one of those cheap buck 110s with the plastic handles, probably the best knife you can just buy at the local stores here for $25 (at least, that's about what I paid). However, for the use cases you mentioned, I might consider the SRK, as obviously a plastic handled 110 isn't up to any kind of rigorous strain.

Hang on: You're suggesting A Fallkniven F1 Pro with a price of $247, but not a Becker BK-2 at $114 that is WAY tougher than the F1 for less than half the price? If the BK-2 is too big, the BK-16 is still over-the-top tough at $104.

You can still buy the SCHF9 which is a good buy for a big knife. If someone prefers something a bit shorter, they can buy the SCH26 (I have the fancier SCHF10 with Micarta handles) for a bit less. I see them for around $30 or less here in the USA. And if they prefer a straight blade Schrade has other models like SCHF36 or SCHF51. I see plenty of them as well as the Cold Steel SRK and the SRK Compact. The Hultafors was an excellent suggestion.
