good show. reminds me of the 80s here in the states. that has phased out almost. now ppl pull with diesel trucks lol I would say my fav is blown alcohol big blocks.. I've seen multi like 6-7 blown alcohol hemis, same amount of big block chevys and 3 Allison engines. diesels were in another class since it just wasnt' fair. I tell you though, I loved this vid for the chance to see a RADIAL engine at work. Sooo much torque and prob a pain in the ass but was awesome to see. If not for what I bet was the carb sloshing fuel around in the bowl and shutting the needle and seat starving the engine of fuel it was on a decent run and picked up just where it let off but didn't have the momentum. I know it had nowhere near the hp of the others but it did have the low end torque and I'm sure it was at such low rpm it'd be embarrassing to the other engines.

Man it's still the wild west in Europe for tractor pulling. There's only 3 types of modifieds that really run anymore in the US and that's jets(I've seen as many as 4 on one tractor), Allison aircraft V12 engines(I seem to remember a guy running one with 4 Allisons when I was younger but they're a rare breed anymore), and multiple big block V8s(most I've seen on one tractor was six). Very cool to see some different stuff! Especially the radial I only know of one that ran in the US and it hasn't pulled in probably 40 years

You know I can't understand how the drive shafts don't break on them things, like they do on drag cars... oh-well.... I can't think it up, but there is a lot of brute force on the tranny/shaft/axle... maybe if there was some kind of rubber bump-stop that reduced the shock, not so many of them would break!! . Why not make a drive shaft out of titanium, or "Silicon"....?
@Hydrohid
9 жыл бұрын
Brian Davis Yeh well sometimes they do actually break :) And it's true that the driveline does encounter quit some stress during a pull. The torque that some engines produce is enormous, its the reason that a puller that uses a v12 for example, speeds up his driveline. So when the engine rpm are at 3500 give or take, the driveline will be sped up towards 8000/10000 dont know the exact number. All because when you speed up the driveline, the torque reduces, according to physics, so that the axles/gears hold. They reduce it in the diff and the final gearreduction, in a lot of tractors: planetary gears, very strong and very capable of encountering big forces. Thats talking about big modified tractors :)

Can anyone tell me why its so popular in America to 'roll coal' apart from it being 'funny' or ' trolling other motorists'? I've always learnt that its better to run it clean rather than pumping out black smoke/unburnt diesel thru the engine.
@TwilightTheShooter
8 жыл бұрын
It's kind like "mah dick is bigger than yer dick cuz mah truck rolls more coal than yer truck does". Just another measurement that us Americans can outdo each other with. If someone can do something then by god someone will find a way to do it bigger and better, and that goes for everything, including rolling coal. But yes, some black smoke from a diesel on acceleration, especially if it's loaded down is normal, but when you're creating your own cancerous weather system of black smoke it does use allot more fuel, but due to the nature of the diesel engine you don't lose allot of performance.
