Y62 patrol suspension lift.
There are essentially two ways to lift an y62 patrol. The more known is the Ontrack 4x4 kit, consisting of new spaced front lower control arms, raised rear coils. Or having the HBMC suspension system pulled apart and resprung at all 4 corners. This does require specialty tools and there are not a lot of shops capable of doing it.
3 months ago we decided to lift our y62 patrol at East Coast Customs in Brisbane. They specialise in the 2nd option, depressurising the HBMC suspension of the Patrol. Then removing the low rated factory coil springs and replaced them with heavy duty raised Dobinson coils. Then recharging the HBMC system again.
The spring rate we went with is to match all the added weight of the accessories. The aim was around a 65mm height increase. We definitely achieved a better ride height. Also this was done without affecting the ride or handling.
Overall I think regardless if you want the Ontrack style spaced LCA’s you should be considering heavier coils for the front of your y62 regardless of accessories. I don’t think Nissan got it right with the week factory coils.
I have now run this suspension set up for 5000 km and a few months with no issues at all. If you are looking to lift your y62 Patrol definitely consider www.eccustoms.... if nothing else talking with the team is worth your time.
