In this lecture, we’re introduced to the American intellectual tradition of romanticism? What does it mean to be a romantic? What does Emerson’s romanticism amount to when applied to the topic of politics? Ought Americans to be reverent to their traditions and customs or should the orientation of any individual to their regime be of a revolutionary nature? What part will the self-reliant American play in creating a new American politics?
