In the Northeast of the national territory, integrated in the district of Bragança, the county of Mogadouro is bordered with Spain along the river Douro. Nestled between the deep Douro valley and the Sabor basin, it occupies the extension of the Mirandese Plateau which, in turn, follows the Planalto Leonês (region of Zamora and Salamanca). In the village of Mogadouro a visit to its historic center is indispensable where we find the Castle of Mogadouro, the Matriz church of Romanesque origin, although it has been replaced by the temple we can see today in the center of the village, Misericórdia church, Pelourinho, Solar dos Pegados and Convento de S. Francisco, contiguous to the church with the same name, whose foundation refers to the first decades of the seventeenth century and is due to D. Luis Álvares de Távora.
