Finally! Fusion tutorials that are actually useful. Coming from Smoke, AE, and Apple Motion, Fusion has been on my list to tackle next. Thank you for sharing these. I can't wait to see more.

well, as it's lockdown I'm bored out of my mind and doing Fusion tutorials to refresh my memory. One thing I thought when watching the first few minutes of this is that the wall of ellipses could of been done easier and as of Fusion 17, there doesn't seem to be a Duplicate node anyway. I made a BG node of 50x50 and masked it with an ellipse mask, so we have a dot in a square. I then just merged that with another BG node of my comp size (the dot being the foreground input). Set the merge edges to mirror. This will give you a wall of dots without needed to draw anything other than one ellipse mask. :-)

I don't know why but the Dot Wall mask applied to the blur is not working. The text is still solid white. The only solution is to apply dotted wall mask directly to the text using Luminescence channel. There is easier way to fill dots across the image by using just one 16x16 pixels background and apply polygon/circle mask. Merge it with full background using WARP method avoiding all the duplication process. You can play with dot "pixel" shape making it squarish

Same Problem here, have you found any solution to the non-working mask ?

@8:25 When I put the wall of dots into the Blur - effects mask channel, I do not get the effect. If I look at my "wall of dots" in the viewer and check the alpha channel it's just full screen white, not a visual duplicate of the RGB channel (wall of dots). You haven't got another node to make the RGB wall of dots active within the effects mask of the blur. Maybe I'll figure this out before you or someone here answers but right now I'm stuck on this crucial element. Help please. UPDATE£: Okay, by adding a Custom Tool between and setting the Alpha to R1, then I get a workable effect mask with the blur. So I still don't understand how I need that Custom Tool, but your flowchart linked effectively without it.

Did you ever share the Fusion scene file? And did you tjeck if was working in F9? As the user MrBenbenky wrote the mask is not working.

This doesn't seem to work in the same way in Fusion 9. Even the first bit of trying to set up the dot matrix background doesn't work in the same way you are able to move through your steps. Any chance you can give it a quick run through and see if you have any issues? It might not be a bad idea to let people know in the description that Fusion 9 doesn't work in the same, if that is in fact the case. If you find it works the same, then I am just not doing it correctly. edit: any chance you'd be willing to share the file? It'd be interesting to follow through it in the exact same way you're stepping through the process since you aren't creating it from scratch in this video, just recreating steps you've already done.

MyMidlifeCrisis thanks for watching. It should work with Fusion 9. I will double check later this morning, but a lot of my F8 comps have come over without a problem (so far). Yes, will share the file. I'm looking into a dedicated site to share these comp files. Once I have that, it will go up.

Great tutorial.I found another one who uses the particle image emitter to sort of getting the same effect. You can find him here kzitem.info/news/bejne/zKKYqHuro4tkoYI it's in Spanish but you can easely follow along by just watching. Anyway, great tut and keep them coming,Fusion is just awesome.
