i would think adding sounding deading material to the under side of the engine cover and thur out the engine compartment to start with and out side as well maybe thanks clay cool boat!!

The engine is air cooled and would get to hot if it couldn’t get enough air flow. If it was water cooled, that might work.

Ive always figured these would be a blast for cruising the creeks. I believe I would sure try to exit the exhaust under the boat. It could be done safely and would make that thing much more quiet.

It would definitely be quieter, which would be great. I don’t want to create a problem trying to get it through the haul, in case it didn’t work out. Working with the HDPE haul is a little more temperature sensitive that the fiberglass of a jet ski. I like the idea though. Thanks for watching!

Looks like you are having a lot of fun with your new kayak I had two older ones but they were pretty slow. I am now in the process of building to aluminum mokai kayaks with Kawasaki 2 stroke engines and pumps in them I am looking at 30 to 36 miles per hour

Yep, it is a lot of fun and gets me to places to search for artifacts. 30-36 MPH sounds interesting. Do you have an idea of how much they will weigh yet? I have seen some RiverRat Jet aluminum boats that are small and go much faster than the Mokai will.

Like a jet boat I wonder if you extended the exhaust a little further out the back and tapped into the pressure side of the jet pump 1/4 in and run water into the exhaust a few inches before it exits to quiet it down. it really works when you do it to a jet boat exhaust quieting it down a lot

The steering rod looks like should be bigger. Seems like it doesnt even fit the hand. Looks to small. Do you have to turn the handle for throttle? If so that also seems like a bad design

The handle is 3.5" and I haven't ever felt like it was too short. It is a twist throttle. It only took a few hours operating the boat to get used to it and now it is second nature.

Thanks! I bought a personal watercraft trailer to haul it on. It weighs 250 lbs. and does come apart in three sections. It is possible to take it apart and nest it all together in the cockpit section and haul it in a 6 1/2 truck bed. I didn't want to take it apart and reassemble it every time I wanted to hit the river, so I choose the trailer option.

Thanks! I ordered mine on 9/28 and it was delivered on 11/17. They estimated it would be about 5 weeks, but with shipping included, it was closer to 7 weeks. I love it and have over 40 hours on it now. You may want to take a look at PainlessTom for some upgrades. I really like the clutch so that I don't have to turn the motor off to stop moving forward. I spent just over 2,000 on Painless upgrades. When I bought my Mokai, it only came with electronic controls. Now, you can buy a model equipped with cable controls from Mokai for a few hundred less than I paid. If you go this route, you can get what I have for about 1,000 less than I paid.

I’ve had it in 3 foot waves on the Ohio River during 20+ mph winds and that was all I would want to try. That is probably calm compared to taking it to the ocean.

I try to not get in less than a foot of water. Sitting still, it sits about 7” down. Moving of course, it doesn’t need that much water. I don’t want to cut it too close and suck rocks and debris into the pump.

I weigh 160. I’ve heard that beyond a certain weight, you lose 1 mph for every 10 lbs of extra weight. I can’t say for sure, but you might not be happy with the performance you would get at that weight.

No, it isn't bad. The motor is held in place by three pins and one bolt. With all the connections on the motor being quick disconnect, you only have to remove the one bolt and pull the motor out. With it sitting on my workbench, it is easy to change the oil.

@@rabbit3502 There is a gear box mounted to the bottom of the engine compartment that ties the belt driven gear to the pump shaft. It holds a couple ounces of gear oil and I do suck that out with a 60cc syringe to change it. It isn't hard either, since it is so easy to pull the engine out to get to it.

I bought mine last Nov. and they only offered the electric controls model. Now they offer a manual controls model for $200 cheaper than I paid. I paid 5600 + 2200 in upgrades, so 7800. Now they have a manual controls model for 5400 + 1500 in upgrades, for a total around 6900. I did all the installs myself, so it could be a little higher if you paid PainlessTom to do the installs.

It would work without these upgrades, but the upgrades make it work better and more reliable. The cable control system is now offered by the manufacturer for those that don't want the servo controls.

No, it didn't change the lift. I ran the Mokai several times before I installed the guard and it was the same, with or without it. I didn't like running without it because of the chance of damaging the pump, so it is worth having for that reason. Thanks for watching!
