Thompson-Nicola / Lillooet, British Columbia
July 25/26, 2020
Weather: Sunny with clear skies, cool night
We drove 15 km south from Lillooet on Texas Creek Road until we reached the gravel road which took us to Molybdenite Lake. Continued our drive at the start of the FSR road was about 14 km up to the lake. After around 2 hours off roading with over 2000 meters of elevation gain, we finally reached our destination. We then set up our tents and relaxed while gazing at the midnight sky filled with stars and the milky way was clearly visible.
Around 5 in the morning, we woke up to a sunrise beaming at the mountains and warming up the lake. At that moment, while having our breakfast and caffeine, we sat and stood quietly soaking in every bit of the pristine views of the surrounding peaks and the beautiful turquoise color of the lake. We realized that this is paradise that we witnessed with every sense and nerve going through our body, mind and soul.
After capturing all the memory from the views, we began our hike up to the Onion Peaks. We hiked from the westside crossing the creek, going through trees and bushes, and along the lake, we stopped at some points where the views were spectacular. At the same time, being aware that there are no marked or any trails; and the likelihood that we may encounter a grizzly bear, we were fully prepared and kept our eyes peeled at all times. We were fortunate enough not to have come in contact with a grizzly.
About an hour hike in, we finally reached the ridge of the Onion Peak after scrambling up in the meadows and dodging boulders. There are a few peaks on Onion E1 Peak of which we only went to the second highest point. 360 views of all surrounding mountains were breathtaking. The color of the lakes below were surreal. This was a magical moment we all sensed. We completely forgot about time and just lived in the moment. No thoughts of civilization which eventually we would have to return at some time.
In our last moments up in Molybdenite, we changed into our swimsuits and dipped into the lake with the afternoon sun reflecting off the mountains and beaming throughthe lake. This is utterly one memory that we will be forever scarred. Our magical moments in paradise.
