Most parents now do this more because previously parents were too occupied with work and never gave time to their children. A mom who had to sit in the kitchen throughout the day preparing meals for the entire family will not get this much time to teach their children plus they used to have multiple kids so it was hard to focus on the mental growth of 1 or 2.
@Moon-oh1fj

🥲my parents never did that... they never gave us time... nor taught us what should be taught in my opinion.... they always showed us material love not an actual family love.. I don't think so if I have ever lived in a happy family like others have cause my parents never showed any caring emotions like they never expressed it... And I get it cause they have never got that from their parents.... They taught me how to deal with my problems on my own and pretend as if I'm totally fine and get away with a smile! That's why I've never been able to express what I've been feeling, mentally or emotionally, even it is hard for me but never told my parents what I've dealing with and in my family nobody talks about anything related to emotions and always have a strong brave face on the outside no matter how much they've been struggling inside! They never taught me how to let out my emotions. And now I feel like crying and showing emotions makes me miserable and look weak! :( which is not true I know!

You could just start saying “I’m having a difficult time hearing you. Could you repeat that, please.” Them make them say it over like three or more times. Maybe they will eventually hear how ugly they sound and stop. My siblings always used to tell they were embarrassed that I was born because I was a later in life baby (read accident). lol When I was in college we had to read “The Games People Play” (psych class). It really helped me. It’s an old book, but it might help you. Or “The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense”. Good luck. Don’t let anyone push you down.

AND hate always comes from beneath, even if it’s people related to you. Your parents SUCK!Yeah, I said it. Once that sets in, you’ll realize how little their opinions matter. You don’t need your parent’s approval to be happy. You were taught that, but it’s wrong. It’s nice to have, but not necessary. Parents like that don’t realize there will be a day their kids will have to take care of them, and it’s coming sooner than they think. Keep doing what you do. I don’t know you, but I know YOU ARE A BAD ASS! You just don’t realize that yet. 👍

She is a amazing mother she raised a beautiful daughter too that message was so inspiring
By not comparing with others and only looking at what you have, you won't grow the determination to improve your position. It's forcing you to stay stagnant in life and limiting your potential. It's like telling a poor person "Don't look at what he has, just be happy with what you have!" Well, no. Look at what other people have. If you like what they have, that's okay! Go work hard and earn it for yourself too! Don't settle with who you are now and where you are now. Strive to improve, to better yourself, to reach higher towards your goals, whatever they may be. If others have reached that point, Please do compare yourself to them. Figure out what you're missing and go work on that. (That doesn't mean to not be *Appreciative* of what you have. That's a a completely different topic. You can appreciate what you have, and strive for more at the same time!)

You missed the message of this lesson. Of course you can strive for greatness. You can do it by comparing yourself to yourself. E.g. After a year of say doing fitness: You look at yourself from a year ago and compare your past self with yourself now. Then you can really measure your success. Look at yourself and think about what needs changing the most. If you look at others and think "I want to be rich like this friend of mine" it's just not possible or way harder to achieve that, because you compare yourself with another person and most of the time also unnecessary. You start working for things you want before satisfying the things you need first. This other person has completely different state initially. Maybe you have an addiciton and your friend has a heart disease. For you to become rich would be totally useless and counterproductive until you finished treating your mental problem. For the friend on the other hand it was easier and more useful to make a lot of money. The want to improve yourself and strive for better things every moment of your life also comes natural (If you psyche is healthy that is), so you never really have to look at hat other people have to motivate yourself into becoming greater. We are all too different. You can always learn from other people - their expierences, failures and tips and also get motivated from them greatly, but comparing is a waste of time. Time you could put into achieving your greatest self. Comparing each other stays in the fun department (games, sports, etc.).

But that being said, I get where you are coming from. I know a lot of people, who can only be motivated through envy. What put me off was, hat you said: "only looking at what you have, you won't grow the determination to improve your position."But what If your glass is a little fuller than your friend's glass? You stop striving for an even fuller glass, because you already have more than the people surrounding you? No, you try to get it even fuller. That's better than all my other examples to the "humans strive for greatness every waking moment naturally anyway If healthy"-topic.

Sometimes we need to compare ourselves with others to analyze what's wrong with us, and what's okay with us.

I hate when people portray this type of mother as the epitome of all mothers like all mothers are just as awesome. In reality, pragmatically, she is more the exception than the rule. Do you know how many women become mothers who don't want to be mothers and are abusive to their children and blame them for dragging them down?
