Miracle in a bottle or too good to be true? A new product called the "Pocket Purifier" promises to clean everything in your home without a single spray or scrub.
The light has to STAY in one spot for 10 seconds! You can't just wave it over the surface... It's not a magic wand...

Darryl Edington that what i was thinking. If they left it on the item or surface they wanted clean for say 15 minutes, would it work better.

Why not just make a sterilizing lamp, then? It's not hard, you just need UVC lamps and knowledge to use them properly.

Agreed, I never understood it to mean anything less than illuminating an area for 10-15s and then move on. They waved it around like they thought it could sterilize an entire multiple square foot surface in that same length of time.

That handheld light has to stay in one spot for at least 10 to 30 seconds.. Moving it around so quickly is why it didn't work. Our home uses two 36 watt bulbs on a timer. We put them in a room, set timer for 15 minutes and then wait for an additional 30 minutes for the ozone to decompose. I've swabbed the before and after results and UV-C lights do work exceptionally well.. but you need power! That little battery operated thing isn't big enough to disinfect anything larger than a spoon or a fork.

I am planning to get the UVC with ozone. I have a baby. Can I treat the living room with them staying in the bedroom while treating? Will the ozone penetrate the closed bedroom?

@@barrykuli7534 Try no onzone. Its bad for your health. You should ventilate your home after use. Remember. UVC rays are very dangerous. They kill all germs but also human cells. Stay away from the light. It also will burn your eyes.

That product was justifiably called out. The news reporters were careless in the reporting about the devices and applicable technology itself and obviously did no research. All devices require proper instruction and verification regarding compliance. Watching the video it was obvious the woman did not operate the device properly. What is really annoying is there was no proper testing by a lab demonstrated and no proper instruction offered. It's is well established that a 30 mJ/sec / sq cm dose will destroy viruses and bacteria at a 250 nm frequency. At 222 nm people can actually be in an operating area as it's dosing. Instead of just trashing a viable technology they'd have been better using their time demonstrating it's proper use with a proper explanation. Fox 4 should be ashamed for such lousy work.

wouldnt using a clorox wipe be faster and easier to use than this? uv light does work to kill germs, we did a test in my old microbiology class that confirms it. the light we used was strong enough to require uv glasses though and is only efficient on straight surfaces. microscopically a kitchen counter has grooves, peaks and valleys and wouldnt kill bateria in the trenches, but on a glass surface may kill them all. and uv light doesnt penetrate things as thin as paper. we cut out designs out of paper and placed them over a petri dish of bacteria and the shape had no bacteria but surrounding edges that were covered by the paper did.

First of all, test the surfaces before cleaning. Then you need to clean the surface you will later expose to UVC light. Then you use UVC light for more time than what they did. Then retest. Particulates will block the light from hitting microscopic organisms. Also, if you do you Clorox, you really need enough liquid to keep it wet for several minutes until it air dries. Too many people only "dampen" the surface or wipe it dry with a rag or paper towel after they are finished. Ruins the ability of the chlorine to penetrate the spore's surface.

Hi. I have a CVS UVC light wand I had purchased maybe 10 years ago. Seems to work like new. How do I test before and after?

UVC light does work but the UVC powerful enough has to be used carefully. Obviously this light does not have the wattage. They do sell wands powerful enough but you need to be educated on it's use wearing gloves, and special goggles. Hospitals use a large uvc producer where you must leave the room.

Pocket purifier is way to underpowered to do the job quickly. Idiots to think it would work this quick with such low power. . But that shouldn't take away from what decent power UVC light can do.

Lol, uv-c wands work, but you need 10 or 15 watts and of course you need to give it a minute or two, not 5 seconds 😉.

Three main factors determine results...light intensity, distances and time...this mom demonstrate the uses of UV light poorly. If you wash your hands less than 20 seconds, it may not sanitize your hands completely. Same goes with using a UV light...

That is a dangerous light. Don't use it if you don't know what it is or how to use it.
