Thanks for your comment! I'm actually familiar with the call you're referring to, although I didn't know it was called Peek and Tut. So that was good to know. The high-pitched call I'm wondering about is almost inaudible. It's at about 1:21 in the video. You almost can't hear it, but you see the mom robin open her mouth to make the call.

It's not too early to hop out. Fledgelings try to hop out as soon as possible, because they're actually quite vulnerable in their nest. Better to scatter and hide than to keep all your (hatched and half-grown) eggs in one basket
