It's almost like those old school engineers knew what they were doing! In seriousness, that is a beautiful lathe, Monarch is top of the line. Give it a little love, Zach!

I work at a university machine shop. Over the summer, we moved one of these from one of our old spaces into our main area. Must've been no more than a 1/4 mile distance. We had to get the oceanography guys to bring one of their huge forklifts because we only have a typical 4000lb capacity hyster propane lift. Boy. What a stressful move. The hardest part was moving it 50ft down the hallway into the shop at the very end around a 90degree turn. We had one end on a pallet jack and the other end on machine skates. 2 other big guys and myself pulling the skate end in front with some straps and 3 little guys in back to steer and get started when stopped as well as some extra eyes. And another guy floating around as a spotter/person to signal ahead. What a machine

That's a neat machine. Leblond made a servo shift lathe. You could preselect the next speed you wanted while the spindle was running. It wouldn't shift gears until you stopped the spindle. It would then immediately shift and you could start it back up. Quick to operate.

Great old iron lathe. The exposed change gears simply behind a cover are pretty standard on lathes. The broken carriage hand wheel would drive me nuts. You should make a video on fabricating a replacement.

Terrific vid. I watch your vids for entertainment, however I often get tips and techniques for working on stuff. The custom built trailer was excellent for that. Personally I don’t care if the video is production studio quality, it’s more about seeing how some jobs are done.
