Thank you for this commentary regarding Harrison Butker's commencement speech! I so agree with everything you said. I despise the way the media picks and chooses what words or phrases they want to, taking them out of context, and then attacks them. Free speech is only relevant if you speak of things "approved" by the left. Lord, help us all!

Dr. Mohler, you asked how many young men on a college campus would hate to say anything close to what Harrison Butker said. The better question for your particular audience would be how many pastors would dare to say anything close to what he said? Pathetically, very few.

You are so right on this, it has been very long time since I have heard a pastor speak on this.

The media tried to get Harrison's But'kerred' but he kicked a field goal dead center through their uptights.

This current phenomenon reminds of the Begg matter some months ago. In that circumstance, there was a massive piling in of condemnation after the disclosure of some pastoral advice. In this circumstance, it’s a massive congratulations for Butker’s commencement speech. The common element is that is it’s all black and white culture war, with no effort to understand why anyone might not agree.

I wish Harrison had spoken at my college graduation in 1979! I wasn’t cut out for corporate world. I missed out on husband and children.

So there has been a shift in position on abortion statewide (in Maryland) from when Hogan was elected Governor?

Fortunately Father Frank Pavone, Bishop Strickland, and my Bishop have been very outspoken both Biblically and politically about the anti Christian Biden and Francis

A truly bravo commentary in support of a truly bravo commencement speech. A professional football player speaks clearly, the very antithesis to Joe Biden. As a point of contrast, The football player is what the President never has been a professional at the top of his game.

Apparently the critics of Mr. Butker have forgotten that Andy Reid, the head coach of his 3 time Superbowl winning team, the KC Chiefs, is very openly a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed "Mormons") which emphasizes the eternal significance of marriage and raising children, over and above any career success, including winning the Superbowl. Latter-day Saints believe that career success is temporary, but families are eternal. Young adult Latter-day Saints demonstrate their priorities, of faith over careers, by devoting two years of their lives to unpaid full time service as missionaries all around the world, and delaying their college graduation and career progress. That includes many young men who are star athletes with scholarships and professional sports prospects. Mr. Butker is not alone in his beliefs about the top priority of spouses and children above careers for both men and women. He would be welcome to speak at the commencements of Brigham Young University, BYU Idaho and BYU Hawaii, Ensign College in Salt Lake City, and Southern Virginia University (a not-Church-owned but definitively Latter-day Saint school).

Well, if the King James Bible was good enough for Joseph Smith, then that's good enough for me.
