Images of older women in the media are frequently stereotyped or left out altogether. The 'Look at me! Images of #Women and #Ageing' project, led by Dr Lorna Warren at the University of Sheffield, encouraged women to create their own, alternative images - showing their experiences of ageing.
From photographs to sculpture, the exhibitions were held at three different venues around Sheffield and initiated a conversation around the impact of the images.
'This sort of research is important because the issues we're looking at aren't going away. If you think about the continuation of #ageism and how it affects women's lives, it's important to keep that on the policymaking agenda, and on the academic agenda too, to understand how ageism occurs, how we experience it and how we can address it.' - Dr Lorna Warren
