I totally agree about how broken the health care system is. I took my 87 year old mother in law to the ER and waited 36 hours for her to be seen. That only happened because I started screaming my dog is treated better than my MIL. And they should be ashamed. There isn’t enough staff and it is a shame. The nurses who were there were wonderful and very tired. So very sad.

Hi Tessie, I'm a medical professional. It would be best to throw out the nuts to be safe. It might be something other than shell. You did the right thing. If the pain returns or you run a fever get in w/your PCP & have an MRI done. Yes, eat lightly but keep hydrated..maybe soup broth. In a few days you most likely will feel better. Watch your urine & stools to make sure it's normal colored. Look up natural substances that are very helpful & effective for taking whole body inflammation down. Yes, everything medicine is so drastically & horribly broken & we all have to do our best to help the most frail & vulnerable around us. Prayers for you, prayers for all. & God Bless you. 🙏💗

@Dawn-zg6gc- Yes I agree. I have had 3 MRIs in the past 11 months. First was to ID that my gall bladder needed to come out. The other two were for my liver. My inflamed gall bladder gave me acute pancreatitis and hepatitis. I'm on a very strict diet that restricts fats, red meat, processed foods, etc. It has helped me a lot. I eat walnuts in moderation, but shelled. And definitely no popcorn!

@@Myfavorites877If it were that she would start to run a fever.. & possibly have GI upset or changes in bowels etc . My suggestion, to be safe and to avoid any worry, would be for Tessie to followup with her PCP who could rule out any potential problem. They might do bloodwork or do an MRI only if further symptoms warranted it. It sounds like Tessie is feeling better but I just felt it necessary for her to have guidelines which the ER had already hopefully given to her.

My go to as much as I hate, is store canned beets. At the top of the list for cleaning out toxins from the body. Other foods also, can find these foods online easily. Beets also athletes use to regulate pH levels. Gatorade and Pedialyte also. Have these on standby for flu's and colds. Ice cold Sprite from my childhood. Two years ago, I was sent to the ER by an urgent care clinic. I was severely dehydrated and had diabetic ketoacidosis. There's a long story of the nightmare that happened, but this is just the summary. I was in the waiting room for 16 hours even though I was sent by another facility. Within minutes of finally being taken back, I lost consciousness, coded and almost died because of the delay in receiving treatment. My organs failing, brain swelling, I was in a coma. I spent a week in CCU. I have permanent damage from that experience. My heart has AFib now and my coordination/balance is ruined. I do not blame the doctors and nurses that treated me. I blame the hospital corporations for not hiring enough staff. They had empty beds but not enough nurses to fill them. Hospital beds sit empty while sick patients are literally dying because of the long wait and delay of care. Like you, I saw many other very sick patients also waiting. Many left without being seen in hopes that another local ER could see them sooner. I am terrified of ever going back.

I want to cry reading this. Finally someone in the general public gets this! Most people lash out at staff, sometimes physically, for the shortages and lack of resources. No one seems to hold the administrators and upper corporate (who make millions annually) responsible for the decisions and actions that are resulting in this!
@mixedbouquet1
3 күн бұрын
@@GW-gz8jh It wasn't easy to understand this while sitting in the waiting room. I have zero memory of what happened after I went back, but my family saw everything. My son told me that the nurses were doing their best, and when I coded everyone came running. Which saved my life, but I know that all the extra people needed to help me...they were also needed for their other patients who were then being neglected. It was even worse when I was admitted. After I left CCU(which seemed well staffed), I went to a step down unit. That was a nightmare. OMG. Nightmare. It became clear that there simply wasn't enough nurses and aides to help. That's where I saw the empty beds and asked about them. They said that they didn't have enough people to handle the occupied beds. They couldn't open any more without more nurses. I had no choice but to get myself to the bathroom even though I wasn't allowed to get up unassisted. I peed the bed after waiting two hours after pushing the call button and nobody came. This happened more than once so I just stopped pushing the button and got myself up despite my orders. They never even knew I was doing that. I could hear them working in other rooms. They were busy caring for patients. If I had seen them sitting around the nurses station or joking in the halls, it would be different. They were doing their best. And the fatigue was evident in their faces when they did come in to change my IV, give my insulin or draw blood. Yes, I am angry at the administrations. My heart goes out to all the nurses who are being run into the ground. They chose a profession to help people but their bosses don't let them do that properly.

I called my cardiologist the next work day and made an appointment, he looked at the hospital notes and said it was stress. I demanded a heart cath, he said no and gave me a cat scan instead. 2 weeks, get the scan, 1 week appointment, says there is a shadow but sure its nothing but will give me the cath if i want. 6 weeks from my original er visit, i get the cath, and it's almost completely blocked, and i get a stint. My uncle fell when he was 80 and hit his head. My cousin took him to an ER in our area in Texas. He sat in the waiting area complaining of a severe headache and vomiting with my cousin asking for them to see him for hours. After sitting for hours he started to go into a coma and they finally decided they had to take him back to be seen by a doctor but by then it was too late. The strange thing was my sister happened to be in the same hospital and when they wheeled my uncle in for X-rays she was also getting X-rays. After seeing him she knew things weren't looking good and she called my dad. My uncle was my dad's oldest brother. After finally X-raying my uncle's head they found he had a brain bleed. Now, even as a non-medical person, I know that falls are close to the number one cause of death in the elderly and especially if they hit their heads hard, which my uncle did. Knowing also that when a person presents with an extreme headache and vomiting it's most likely a concussion or a brain bleed. Why they as "professionals" could not or would not recognize that is beyond me. After seeing my uncle's X-ray they hurriedly life-flighted him downtown to the medical center where the doctor told my cousin, "If they had only sent him earlier I could have fixed the problem." They did what they could for him there but unfortunately he died. The sad thing is he didn't have to die. He was extremely healthy for his age. The first hospital he went to knew they messed up and doctored the timeline so it looked like they started treating him much earlier than they did. My cousin saw a lawyer but the lawyer gave him the timeline the hospital had written down on the records and said that without proof of the timeline being different they wouldn't be able to do anything. I don't know why they didn't call my sister because at the time they said they were life-flighting our uncle she was with him in the imaging department. So if or when I or anyone in my family has to go to the ER I will take a picture of them signing in to register where the clock can be seen behind them so there is a record of when the timeline begins. To say it left a bitter taste in our mouths would be an understatement. So glad you are feeling better!

I worked in a major hospital for 40 years, the problem with ers is multifold.First so many people use the er inappropriately which delays in the care of those that need.ERs have become hotels for the homeless, addicts, mentally ill and alot of people use them for non emergency issues like colds or fevers.Short staffing is a major issue. Care slows down when you have to have every word translated, or different cultures allow or don't allow certain treatments. It's not that the system is broken,it's that the demands on the system have rapidly grown and changed.

Glad you're feeling better. We hear about long waits at the hospitals all the time, like around 12 hours. My sister's mother in law had an issue with her colon, and she was there with her 82 year old husband for 12 hours, and she is 80. It's terrible what's going on. Like you said, it's like third world country status here. So glad you're not in any pain. That sounds terrible.

Interesting since the digestive tract doesn't go through the liver. But, I guess the pain in the stomach could refer to the liver.

My 75 year old mother fell and hit her head the same day as the eclipse in April. I'm a former nurse so I assessed her and kept an eye on her for a few days until she started having severe ear pain. Off to the er we went. We waited for 4 hours and she still hadn't been seen. The er was completely over run. And this is a small hospital in Tulsa. We left and were able to get some old antibiotics from a neighbor for what turned out to most likely be an ear infection. I think my mom is finally starting to understand why I've been on one about our health and breaking away from the medical establishment as much as possible. They have my mom on a completely unnecessary statin that has caused her cognitive decline (and probably her falls also) and now they want to put her on a bi-pap. I was a nurse and I know where this is headed!

Tessie so sorry this happened to you. Yes I seen for myself how broken our health system is especially in ER. Not enough nurses and yes I’ve waited 10 hours just to be seen just awful. My daughter is a nurse in ICU in Boston and she sees a lot!! God Bless the workers but they really should do something about ER and wait time!! Get better and rest.

Tessie I know what your talking about with our health care. I spent many hours with my mom in the emergency room. The Nurses who come care for my mom at home left the hospitals because it's so stressful. Last time my mom was in her iv fell out and they didn't want to put it back in fir antibiotics she needed for a UTI they said let her go home to pass I told them no. They finished the meds cause I had to push for it. She has Alzheimer's and I am her voice. I been learning a lot more of stuff to use for infections. We need to keep praying 🙏

I'm so sorry to hear about your nut shell experience. That had to have been scary. I have had the experience with our ER also. I went into the ER one night @ 7:00 p.m. and did not get seen until 12:00 p.m. After images were taken I was discharged at 1:00 a.m. Your right we have to be proactive and learn more medical skills as much as we can without being Dr's. Glad to hear everything got cleared for anything more serious.

Thankful you're ok, Tessie. I agree; our healthcare system is broken. So many people I know have gone to doctors, including specialists, and gotten substandard care-even having their concerns and obvious signs of illness dismissed. I've always had to be CPR certified for work, but learning other skills and being prepared with supplies is an excellent plan. Rest and get well. ❤

Glad you are on the mend. Thank god for our nurses and doctors. I’ve also been on a liquid diet. For the past 72 hours. I’m so thankful for more tests to come and feeling so much better. We waited 13 hours in Ontario Canada in emergency to see a doctor and 9 hours the time before that! Crazy

I am so glad you are on the mend. I totally agree with what you said. I took my husband to the ER. We waited so long that his appendix ruptured while we were in the waiting room. He of course ended up in surgery and he was so full of infection that he came so close to dying. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks.

Thanks for sharing Tessie. I had the same type of experience at the emergency room in April. It was the one of the most frightening, discouraging, and unbelievable things I had ever been through. It was like a war zone. I was there 12 hours, brought in by ambulance after experiencing a severe life-threatening reaction to a medication that was prescribed to me the day before. In 12 hours, I never actually saw any type of healthcare provider. It is sad to see so many commenting here that they have experienced similar issues since many of us are from totally different states. I don’t know what the answer is, and of course I have my opinions about what some of the causes are, but for me, I just won’t ever go to an emergency room again. I would really actually rather die at home than go there again. but thank you for sharing your story and I agree with you that it is a good idea for us to become more medically proactive and prepared.

Watching from Australia, our hospitals are also broken, our ambulances have lost people who are ramped, ramping is when there isn't any room inside the emergency department and the ambulance and their patients are forced to wait before they can hand the patients over, everything is broken in the USA, Australia, UK etc its such a terrible time for all 😢

One of the things to remember is that the ER is for real emergencies. My Dr always says to call him first as it could avoid an ER visit. I am a former nurse, one daughter is an RN and another daughter is a social work case manager.

Last winter my husband and I went to the emergency room. My husband was in a lot of pain. We waited in the emergency room for 2 days. He needed surgery. He had gotten an infection and that two days in the ER waiting allowed that infection to spread into his blood. He ended up being in the hospital for a very long time.
