My Mum recently saw a Dr and because she wanted to ask him about another problem he almost went apoplectic. She is 96 this year and deserves better. Worked from age 14 till 77. It makes no difference they don’t care.

Your mum wanted to steal time from other patients. You might not want to think of it that way, but the more time you take from a fixed resource the less is there for everyone else.

@danielhoward8149 Exactly. You make a resource free and people will abuse it. The lack of community know-how for simple ailments also adds millions of appointments. But still, whether your complaint is a legitimate medical problem or not, increase time in one space means decrease time elsewhere

Blair rewrote the contracts for GP's in 2004. He gave them massive pay rises of 60% for less work. They were able to opt out of working evenings and eeekends for just £6k less salary. Blair was the author if so much of todays chaos and disaster. And we're about to watch it happen again.

GPs want more money? Great. Time for a new contract. They get paid for the number of patients they SEE, not the number on their list. They become EMPLOYEES, not independent contractors. And they work evenings, weekends and bank holidays like everyone else in the NHS.

The clue is in the name: national health service. It is a cop out to say nhs is not involved in keeping people healthy. For example nhs used to give out cod liver oil. This could help prevent a range of issues! They could hand out vitamin d and vitamin k2 to at risk individuals.

This. They’re not interested to keep you healthy and incompetent to diagnose. You’ll just be coming in over and over and they’ll tell you it’s in your head or stress, take a paracetamol until your body gives out, then u will have to go to a&e. Because gps won’t take their job seriously

Fewer? How much fewer can they get FFS. It's a 5 min appointment with a doctor where you can only talk about one thing affecting you, if you need to talk about another thing wrong, you have to either book a double appointment or make a completely separate one for another day, usually four months down the line.

Literally rarely anyone else in the GP surgery when I go to see the nurse for bloods etc. Nurses have been working face-to-face with patients since COVID hit ….. and GPS seem to be largely doing patient phone calls. My Doctors are great but I don’t think what they are doing is sustainable. Patients aren’t happy about the appointment situation, but I can see why GPs are unhappy too.
