This was seriously so helpful! I'm a noob photographer, and I noticed that when I would edit the colors on my computer, they would turn out a different color when I sent them to my phone! This gadget will help me with that problem!

Kamie VanDeusen - That’s not how this device works and you can’t calibrate a phone. You calibrate the display so IT displays and prints images correctly. It does not calibrate the image itself.

This comment may be 2y old, but it's still so wrong. Editing on a calibrated monitor will make photos look absolutely and completely off on a mobile device. I use the Lightroom Mobile app on my phone to re-adjust mine to create a mobile version of a photo that looks exactly like what I see on my calibrated screen. This involves increasing the contrast by a ton and crushing the highlights, shadows, and whites. Sometimes it means adding or subtracting some saturation and/or vibrance. Monitor calibration gets your monitor to where your photos viewed on your screen match ICC standards. This is crucial for PRINTING images accurately both in terms of color AND luminance. I leave ambient light monitoring on and my dongle plugged in while editing. It updates the profile for changes in ambient lighting. Editing on an uncalibrated monitor is why pictures turn out way darker with no detail in the shadows when printed, and the color between an uncalibrated monitor and a calibrated printer being different is a given. But it does NOT help by way of getting things to look the same between uncalibrated devices. In fact, an uncalibrated monitor looks far, far more similar to a phone than a calibrated monitor does.

Question about Display Hardware Set Up- if you can manually adjust the RGB gains why wouldn't you want to choose that option instead? And why choose Automatic Display Control instead?
@DanielSommerPhotography
5 жыл бұрын
Great question Fanny. If you manually adjust the RGB gains it will be not nearly as accurate and stable as when you let the device and software do it. The device was specifically designed to give you the most accurate colour possible. There is no way any of us can achieve that by pushing a few sliders up and down, left and right manually on our keyboard. It is so much more intricate. To be able to see the difference, run and save the manual adjusted calibration and then run the automated one, and compare the 2. Hope that helps. Let me know how you go with it ;-)

Let me begin by complimenting you on your presentation. It was easy to follow, you answered many of the questions about menu options that were confusing prior to watching the video and you kept it at a pace that was easy to stay with. The problem that even Xrite support agrees is a tough one is modifying your calibration to match your photo labs output. The procedure you covered is excellent for viewing your images on your computer screen, however, if you don't make the proper adjustment with luminance, your prints will come back from the lab too dark. Can you please address this issue? Thank You.
@DanielSommerPhotography
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Larry. Really appreciate it. Fortunately, I never encountered that issue. I was able to get an excellent print from the lab and even on my Home Printer an Epson Surecolor SC-P600 A3+ Printer. Using the setting provided to me by X-rite. I sometimes even mess around with the brightness settings on my 27 inch Dell UP2716D as I feel like. Now, my recommendation when it comes to Print is to trust the RGB Color Values. They can be found in Capture One, Lightroom or Photoshop (Go to --> Window --> info, or press F8) I always check my values before print. Just to make sure the colors are what you intend to print. Are your colors to dark because your screen is too bright? Maybe check in with your lab and see whether they have an ICC Profile that they use on their printer. Most Labs have custom ICC Profiles specifically designed for their printers. Also are you able to visit your Lab? I always find it helpful to sit down with the people who actually print my work and get the latest info, updates, drivers, ICC Profiles, etc. If that's not possible did you ever try a different Lab? I'm curious to know. I hope that was helpful. Keep me posted Larry.

Hi edfe708, thanks for reaching out. I'd research what kind of monitor you have, make and model, serial number ect... can be found on the manufacturer website of display comparison sites online. However, if its a newer Display which is assumed, the display type suggested by the i1Profiler is usually the right one (make sure its an up-to-date version) If it's your first calibration, please make sure to calibrate it at least 3 times in a row for more consistent results. Good luck!

Hello Daniel, Thank you for Your Video it helps me a lot. I have additional question. Do You have any problems to calibrate Your second monitor. I have two old Apple Cinema Display and i1Profiler allows me to calibrate only one. I see connected two Monitors but when I trying make calibration on second one I have information that I should connect him first. Do you have any advise ?
@DanielSommerPhotography
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would try to calibrate them individually, calibrate one then disconnect it and connect the other one and calibrate the 2nd one. Since the ICC profile and the calibration itself is stored and done using your Video and Graphics card it might not be able to use the 2 (or3) different profiles simultaneously. I also don't know how well the old Apple Cinema Displays handle the changes made to be honest. Since the calibration is done on Software and not hardware it might be impacted by your video and graphics card. Newer high end monitors are able to store the colour profiles in it's hardware which means it would have to rely on the video and graphics card to adjust each screen with its individual profile. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, Daniel. I watched your video after running the i1Profiler for the first time yesterday. I have a similar setup - a 2015 15” MacBook Pro, with an Eizo Flexscan S2242W (one of their older, budget models). My initial reaction was that both displays looked a little dull and muddy after calibration, but understand this is quite normal. I used the Basic mode this time, but will try the Advanced mode next time. I’m still a little confused as to which setting I should be using on ‘display and technology type’ for the Retina display. The software defaulted to ‘White LED’ and after watching similar videos, some people use this, some use ‘Wide Gamut CCFL’, as you have. Spencer Pullen said he’d contacted X-Rite and they said it should be ‘White LED’? I suppose there will always be multiple opinions! My main question concerns the differences in colour between the MBP and the Eizo monitors. I had assumed that after calibration they would be pretty close (blues and greens are still way off), but it seems I was sadly mistaken. Just wondering how close you get your two displays?

Hi Daniel, was surprised you set the luminance by via the drop down rather than let the device measure the ambient light, esp. as your lighting is controlled/fixed. Is there any reason you don't? Was this setting recommended by the X-Rite contact also? Thanks
@DanielSommerPhotography

Jordan Russell hi Jordan, I wanted consistency, it's a personal preference, the ambient light is changing from time to time and so would your screen and that's just weird, it can mess up your edits when you're working on a file for a while or a set of images and the light changes over a period of time it's just not very consistent. I wouldn't recommend it. It also means you would have to keep the device plugged in 24/7 which I'm not willing to do. Hope that helps ;-)

Hi C1967 :-) Thanks for reaching out. I'd see if you can upgrade the i1Profilder software from X-rite(free of charge) I think it's called iPublish 3 now. Once you have installed it see what the default setting in the little box under your screen says. The new updates can actually detect the screen type quite accurately. Most screens nowadays are White LED and whatever type it displays on your end is most likely correct. But happy to have a chat with you about that further on my blog on my website liked in the video. Hi MCharlot B. hhhmmmm.... that's strange, maybe the calibrator wasn't laying flat (snug) on the screen, or moved somehow during calibration. Maybe you had some sort of other interference. Make sure you're using an up-to-date version of the i1 Profiler, change the USB port, make sure the device is flat on the screen, there is no light flares or vibrations interrupting the calibration and try again. Let me know how you go. Feel free to check out the blog post in the description and chat with me or my team through the blog or email should it not resolve the problem. Good Luck!

With print icm profiles you select the one you want, after profiling the screen, how do you make sure the monitor is using the profile? Or does i1 software automatically set it. I use cad and 3dsmax and have a different screen brightness while working on cad drawings, 3dmodels, renders etc. I then take the renders into lightroom and tweak.

hi mate, I hope you're well and got your new MacBook sorted. the RGB and sRGB values have nothing to do with the Display type used by the manufacturer. Thanks for your excellent tutorial. I've been banging my head on all this stuff for awhile, and I appreciate your clarity. One big problem is that the same picture displays differently on Lightroom/Photoshop (I like the display) then it does on things like Windows Photo Viewer (really red), or when I import the picture into Word. Which is the calibrated version? Until I figure that out, I'm not sure what I should investigate next. My prints look more like the Photoshop display. Thanks for helping to make sense of this. Enjoy the day!

I emailed X-Rite to see what type my monitor is. I got a very quick and comprehensive reply, and turns out it wasn't a White LED like I'd assumed. My prints now match my monitor fairly closely when I'm in Photoshop. X-Rite says "The default ICC Profile Version for i1Profiler is "Version 4" in the Advanced mode and all profiles created in the Basic mode is "Version 4" as well. Windows Photo Viewer, Windows Photo Gallery, and other Windows image viewing applications are not yet compatible with "Version 4" display profiles and so images will view dark and over saturated when the default monitor profile is Version 4". Version 2 is still way redder when using Windows Photo Viewer. Peter Hurley complained about a picture (that looks fine in my Photoshop but too red in Windows Photo Viewer) being way too red, and he's working with a well calibrated monitor, so I expect there's more going on here than I expect.

Hi John, first of all, thanks for taking the time to watch the tutorial, I appreciate it! What you describe is a quite natural occurrence. Most displays are very cool by default. Your eye is used to this cold color tone and once changed your eyes are going to play tricks on you. Your eyes need time to adjust to the new setting. I recommend calibrating your screen 3 times when initially calibrating, you will notice a change in colour throughout each calibration. You should get a result of around 6500K (+-200k) after the calibration. Please have a look at my blog which is linked in the video for further details. Should you have any further questions please let me know ;-)

Thanks
@DanielSommerPhotography
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Whisperin100, sure, no problem. I'd edit on D65 (6500K) as recommended in my guide above but you can save 2 ICC profiles. One for editing and a profile with a D75 (7500K) as White Point, which makes your display cooler, so you can see what your clients are looking at. D50 (5000K) and D55 (5500K) make your display even warmer, which is generally used for print. It's really easy to switch between the profiles once calibrated and saved. Go to -> System Preferences -> Displays -> Color - then choose the ICC Profile you've saved through the i1Profiler software. I'm assuming you're using a Mac? Hope that helps ;-)

One last question I'm confused as most of my clients in the country are on non calibrated monitors and if mine is warmer and calibrated what i should do when i post photos online? I mean where is the golden middle? Should i try to make photos look good on both profiles D65 and D75 ? How do you manage it ? As i want everyone to see vivid and nice colours and not that only those with calibrated screens can see what i want to show or otherwise. Thanks alot ! Stefan
@DanielSommerPhotography
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Stefan, Thank you very much, I really appreciate it, it means a lot! I see where you're coming from and I find myself in a similar situation every now and again. I did a commercial food and beverage shoot for a bigger restaurant in my area a while back, the photos looked great on my devices but on their 8year old Lenovo Laptop it did not look appetising at all. It was all "bluish" and just off on so many levels. I was aware of this issue and always supply prints for my clients. I took all the prints to my client and made them understand that they are using older uncalibrated screens (on devices intended for office work). We then went online to check the photos on their smartphone my computer (images looked great) and they soon understood that the issue is not with our end product but the device they watch it on. I then supplied an ICC Profile for their printer so they were able print them also. Now, I do not recommend messing around with D65 and D75 just to please your clients as this defeats the purpose of a proper calibration. Instead try to make them understand the issue by direct comparison, printouts etc... Let me ask you what kind of work you do and what your clientele is? Wedding, Food, Landscape, Portraits ect... If you have any further questions please hit me up through DM on my Social Media or email and we can schedule an quick online session ;-) Cheers Dan

I messed up before the colors in a laptop that i used to have and didnt know how to revert it back to what it was before i started playing with this device. Thanks a million! I'm a newbie :)

Hi Christina, yeah absolutely, just go to --> System Preferences --> Monitors --> Color --> and then choose your old Display profile, its most likely named after the monitor you have. (That's for Mac) for Windows: ICC profiles are located in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\Color\ by default. And it also may within c:\windows\SysWOW64\spool\drivers\color\ Please go to control panel---Color Management---All Profiles to make sure the ICC profiles are installed on your PC. Hope that helps. Cheers Dan

In OSX the ICC profiles are in various places, but if we want anyone who uses the system, however they logged in, to have access to them we put them in the main Library > Colorsync > Profiles folder. This is where the OSX system and many installed applications put profiles. There are also ICC profiles in the "username">Library > Colorsync > Profiles folder. Putting them there has the advantage of backing them up whenever the user's home folder is archived. Screen calibration applications like basICColor Display often place profiles into this user folder. On later versions of mac OSX, the "username"/library is a hidden folder. It's easy to get to though, just hold down the Alt key (near your keyboard spacebar) and then mouse down on the "Go" menu item (up near the Apple logo, top left of your screen). Now you'll see a list which includes "Library", just highlight it and release the mouse and the folder will open. For recent versions of Photoshop on Mac, Adobe's own profiles are placed in the Library > Application support > Adobe > Color > Profiles folder. Some more commonly used ones are inside that folder in the Recommended folder.

So if I have a laptop (Lenovo P51) with a Dell 2515 hooked up as a secondary screen, would I still choose a luminance of 100 when calibrating each screen? Or do I choose 120 for the Dell?

OldPix3l it always depends on the environment you're working in but I recommend 120 for your Dell. (if you're working in an office with lots of windows and bright lights, 120 might not be enough but that's completely up to you.)

Daniel, I’m trying to figure out how to properly calibrate BenQ SW271 using i1 Display Pro. I tried PME, X-Rite and DisplayCal. People who know what they are doing (at least it seems like it) keep telling me that PME doesn’t support proper sw271 calibration as well as X-Rite since they don’t have a right type of calibration correction or something like that. X-Rite tech support said ghat there is an option for W-Led (wide gamut that is) or Phosphor calibration. Since you wrote an article about calibration I wanted to know what’s you opinion on this?

Cool,the instrument needs to touch the surface if you're calibrating a computer screen. It needs to be flush on the screen. I'm not sure what it's like with a projector though.

How does it work with the calibration if you adjust brightness settings? Is it possible to let the software automatically swap calibration profiles on a software controlled laptop display as you increase or decrease brighness? Then you have standalone monitors that do not convey brightness information to the computer.....
@DanielSommerPhotography
6 жыл бұрын
you can leave the i1Display Pro plugged in and it will change the monitor settings based on the ambient light in the room but you need to make sure you check that specific box on the bottom of the first page. HOWEVER I do not recommend this setting, especially not for color critical work. why would you wanna change the brightness of your screen after calibration? If you so wish you can do multiple calibrations with different luminance levels and choose the one you want according you the brightness of your screen. I'm not quite sure if I understand your last question, but I work a lot with standalone monitors and their settings can all be adjusted. When calibrating such a monitor I would let the software adjust the brightness of the screen. You can then also do multiple calibrations with different brightness levels but it seems a bit time consuming and unnecessary, to be honest. Let me know how you go. Happy Holidays mate.
@iberiuspred4906
6 жыл бұрын
Well say that I work in a well lit office, then a brightness level of 75-80 might be desired. Let's say that I want to work with something late in a dark environment. Then I would desire only 10-25 out of 100 in brightness level. I don't know much about monitors but to my understanding, a monitor only displays the video signal while the computer is completely unaware of the state of the monitor in terms of its current settings (backlight intensity, contrast, brightness level, colour, tint etc...). But perhaps such information is transferred back to the computer via the DVI/HDMI/DP protocols? By what you write, this seems to be the case. On say a MacBook Pro laptop, there seems to be a software layer between the back-light illumination keys and the illumination control of the screen, which makes the operating system aware of the brightness settings of the screen. If the computer is aware of the state of the screen, then the color calibration software could be designed to switch between different color profiles accordingly. So as you adjust the settings on your screen, it could detect that and automatically swap profile. Establishing a complete set of color profiles may of course be time consuming. This could either be handled by only having two profiles; one for office environment and one for dark environment. Or one could assume a linear relationship between brightness and color profiles (2 calibration points) or one could assume that it follows some kind of a gamma curve (3 calibration points, one at minimum, one at middle and one at maximum brightness) as gamma curves seem to be popular in monitors. But from what you are saying it seems like the calibrator even lets the computer control the screen remotely and you never touch the buttons on the panel of the monitor.

@DanielSommerPhotography
8 жыл бұрын
Hi Secret, I'm not quite sure whether you intend to use the software for overall gaming performance and vibrant colors or actually want to properly calibrate your screen for some serious color work where accuracy is key. I did some research and found 2 options. Option 1: Intel HD Graphics Control Panel "Display" Settings Display Settings: Stock Color > Basic: Brightness: 15 Contrast: 48 Gamma: 0.7 Color > Advanced: Hue: 0 Saturation: 52 Since I'm not using Microsoft Windows I can't attest to the awesomeness of the settings above but people in the forums seem to love it. www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-book-t100-general-discussions/40320-intel-hd-graphics-control-panel-display-settings.html Option 2: I know these color calibration devices are pretty expensive but X-rite as well as Datacolor is selling more affordable calibration devices. For serious but affordable calibration I recommend to check out the Lite version in the links below. www.xrite.com/categories/calibration-profiling/colormunki-display spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder5express/ Hope that helps ;-)

I have the xrite i1, that's why I was asking. I don't know anyone who would buy a calibration device to boost saturation for gaming, but yes I work in media/photography. I recently sold all my Macs and bought PCs, the monitors have controls on them so no big deal, but on my laptop it has a way to adjust color in windows 10, and also from the intel graphics. I chose to adjust from the intel program as it seemed to give more control, I just wasn't sure if the color would change when switching from the built in graphics chip to the Nvidia GPU. It doesn't seem to shift color when using graphics acceleration so I think everything is good.

I should point out that this is a windows system. It def crashes when I use auto. All drivers are updated. I did it manually and was pretty successful. That's strange. Seeing you're using an Acer Predartor X34 I'm guessing you're using Microsoft Windows. All ICC Profiles are stored on your machine. And it also may within c:\windows\SysWOW64\spool\drivers\color\ · Please go to control panel---Color Management---All Profiles to make sure the ICC profiles are installed on your PC I hope that helps.

Daniel, I just bought the i1 Display pro and went through your steps with an external LG TV screen monitor and the hues came out with strong yellow hues. The "before" settings was a from another tutorial an hour or so ago and it was much crisper and more blue tones. The difference was White point: native on the original and Whitepoint D65 as you recommended for photo industry in the second try. It is SO different and I really don't know what is the true colours I should be aiming for. The first is darker and more vibrant. The second almost looks washed out on the "coloured" sample. What do you recommend?
@DanielSommerPhotography
7 жыл бұрын
hi Derryl, Great question! Are you using your LG TV side by side with your calibrated device? If so try to match it as close as possible. How old is your TV? I had an issue calibrating my 9 year old Panasonic HDTV. All the settings were great and tailored to my TV but it screwed with my blacks and things started looking really weird. I figured it was just too old to be calibrated properly. I don't mind having a cooler tone when watching TV (im not using it to edit) Now, I was pretty shocked when I first calibrated my external monitor the colours were just wrong in my opinion. With that being set, I recommend 3 calibrations, 2min apart. You are going to see that the result will vary but the 4th and final calibration will match the 3rd and then you know it's properly calibrated. I furthermore do not recommend to use a TV to do colour critical work on. Make sure you get a screen that covers 100% sRGB 100% ADOBE RGB (if possible) and has a Delta-E < 2, supports up to 1.07 billion colors and has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio for deeper dark and brighter bright colors, resulting in a more dynamic picture. If you can't get your hands on one of these, try to match the color of your LG TV as close to your calibrated device as possible. (You might have to play around with it) Hope that helps, good luck!

Derryl Friesen As previously mentioned, id try to calibrate 3times with the same setting (you will get different results) and if that doesn't lock in on the 4th try then try choosing a different color balance like a D75 or so, it really is just about playing around at this stage. check out our blog -} --danielsommerphotography.com/blog/2016/3/1/x-rite-i1-display-pro-- in section 8 and 9 we talk about the possibility of changing settings of all else fails ;-)

It has extra features for the Cintiq like a specific color profiler... that's what I'm getting from this. So it may be beneficial for Wacom users to buy the Wacom color manager instead. I have two ASUS 27" QHD Displays side-by-side. One is the ROG PG278QR and the other is the PB278. If I slide an image so it sits half in one and half in the other you can visually see the differences.
@DanielSommerPhotography

Hi Desertsweeper, Thanks for reaching out. That's very unfortunate, but it might have something to do with the fact that they are completely different models. The ASUS PB278Q has a Samsung Panel, Panel Type is PLS Panel/ In-plane switching, model LTM270DL02 and is able to reproduce colors sRGB 99.5%, Adobe RGB 78.1%, NTSC 81%. The Display also has a contrast Ratio of 80000000:1. The ROG PG278QR on the other hand has a panel manufactured by AU Optronics and is a TN Panel Type, model M270Q002 V0 and is able to reproduce colors sRGB 93.9%, Adobe RGB 68.1% and NTSC 72% thats all significantly less the the PB278Q. It also has a different contrast ratio of 1000:1. As you can see they might look similar on the surface and they might be great for gaming but even though they are have the ASUS label on it, they cant reproduce the same color because they are completely different displays. Hope that sheds some light on your issue. If the calibration is completely messed up, check out my blog that might help or reach out the the X-rite customer service for further instructions.

The industry standards for video include NTSC, PAL-SECAM, and Rec. 709. Video presets are available in the Advanced mode of the software. Open the software and choose Advanced in the “User Mode:” area of the home page. On this same screen look to the bottom left of the screen and see “Switch to saved workflows.” When “Switch to saved workflows” is selected the video presets are shown in the TOP LEFT of the screen just under the words “Workflow Selector”. Each preset is selectable and literally “preset” to calibrate and profile your display to the selected video standard. Use video presets when profiling LCD televisions or your own computer monitor when editing video footage. If you use your monitor for still photo editing and video editing consider creating separate profiles for each workflow and switching between the two in your operating system settings. BEST OF LUCK ;-)

thanks for the response Daniel! I was wondering what is the difference between i1Display Pro and the ColorMunki Display?
@DanielSommerPhotography
7 жыл бұрын
Kartik Vasan I get a lot of questions about which of these two solutions one should purchase: ColorMunki Display or i1Display Pro. And the answer is always a definitive “it depends!” First let’s look at what is the same about these two solutions. The hardware for both of these devices is identical with two exceptions. The body of the devices are different colors and the i1Display Pro measures up to 5x faster than conventional colorimeters. Both of these devices feature the newly designed colorimeter from X-rite giving you enhanced color accuracy and repeatability. These new colorimeters feature: i1Display Pro and ColorMunki Display profile montors and projectors•New optical system - large lens that allows for a larger sample on the screen and the ability to take a measurement with the device off the screen using Flare Correct®. •New filter technology - that allows the device to preform better and last longer. •Spectral calibration architecture - performed at the factory for better intra-instrument agreement. This is particularly important in environments using multiple instruments. •Supports modern LCD display technologies - LCD, White LED, RGB LED, Wide Gamut, and more. Both devices can be upgraded in the field as newer technologies become available. •Supports digital projectors - the ability to profile a projector can be the difference in a color correct, impressive presentation or apologizing the entire evening because the image from the projector doesn’t match your screen. If you don’t profile your projector now you’ll be amazed and the difference. •Intelligent form factor - The small, light weight, easy to carry device design makes it and easy to carry perfect travel companion. Additionally, the color engine in both ColorMunki Display software and i1Profiler is the same color engine. So you can trust profiles made from both devices in each distinctive software program to be professional quality profiles for any level of use. So how are these two devices different? Well we’ve already mentioned one difference… the i1Display Pro measures up to 5x faster than conventional colorimeters. But let’s look a little deeper into the differences. ColorMunki Display software is wizard driven and very easy to use. While it does give the user some degree of control over settings it is really designed for simplicity of use. As we said before the color engine that produces the profile in each software program is the same so you can expect professional quality results from ColorMunki Display. It just doesn’t have all the “bells and whistles.” i1Profiler, the software that drives the i1Display Pro, offers nearly endless combinations of choices for settings in the advanced mode. Make custom patch sets using small, medium, or large base patches. Add colors captured from the device or from the Pantone Color Manager to the patch set. And load an image into the software to see the color palette extracted from the image and added to the patch set. When these large patch sets are used the increased measurement speed becomes a real plus. You’ll also enjoy special features like Quality Assurance that allows you to evaluate a profile after it has been created. Uniformity check gives you the ability to evaluate the uniformity of white point and luminance on 9 different measured points on your screen. And Trending allows you to track the changes in your monitor over time. Versions of i1Profiler 1.3 and beyond offer video presets that give you the option to profile your monitor for video editing using NTSC, PAL-SECAM, or Rec. 709 presets. Your video editing can move a step closer to broadcast quality monitors giving you an edge for video editing. Uniformity check measure 9 patches to evaluate the uniformity of white point and luminance across the screen One more addition for the i1Disaplay Pro device is compatibility with NEC SpectraView II and Eizo Color Navigator software. These propietary software programs can get into the hardware and automatically make changes that used to require manual adjustment. The retail version of the i1Display Pro is recognized by both SpectraView II and Color Naivigator. This allows you to use the same device for your wide gamut monitors using their propietary software and use i1Profiler software for your laptop or other displays that don’t utilize the NEC or Eizo software. And you’ll be able to profile projectors with that same device. So… it depends on your particular needs. If you want a wizard driven, easy to use solution choose ColorMunki Display. If you’re a color geek or just someone who wants to have all the settings available then choose i1Display Pro. If you want those special video presets or plan to use a device with SpectraView II or Color Navigator you’ll also want to choose i1Display Pro. And if you’re someone who routinely edits video choose i1Display Pro and get the video presets for popular video formats. I hope this helps ;-)

hi, not quite sure what you mean, I have a reference monitor using HDMI connected to my camera to check everything. I usually don't connect my camera via USB to my computer. However, if my tutorial requires USB, yeah... I use USB.

@@orangerecords_studio ouuuhhhh hahaha now I get it. Yeah, you need to connect the X-rite i1 Display Pro to your PC or Mac to use it. Once you're happy with the calibration you can disconnect it. There is no need for it to stay connected 24/7. Set the recalibration to 4 weeks. Only connect it to calibrate your displays. Depending on what kind of displays you have, I'd recommend you also connect the display with a USB upstream cable to your computer while calibrating for a better result. I hope that helps.
