What are your thoughts about Monkey Man? Could it be one of the best action films of the decade?

Since when was this a comedy podcast😂 The action is phenomenal. Its choreographed but still feels raw and thats quite unlike a lot of action that gets made today. When he starts fighting, he has a very chaotic style, but as the film progresses, his style progresses and becomes less erratic. The camera work, not just with the action, but with other shots of characters and nature were amazing The pace did feel off though. Took a while to get going but when you get to the first action set piece, it picks up so quick. But as soon as its over, its like the brakes were slammed and weren’t released until the next set piece. And maybe thats because of the layers that were added to this film. I’ll admit I was expecting a straight action movie, very much like the John Wick comparisons. But this film wanted to be more so maybe i’ll try again with that different perspective in mind. 7/10

Yeah I agree with most of this, I think the pacing isn’t helped by how the film was marketed, which suggested it would be more full-on, non-stop action

this movie fucks. definitely instant classic and a directorial debut that will be talked about and used as a bar for future films. it has so much going for it, though, yes it isn't perfect pacing wise. i loved looking at this movie, i loved feeling this movie, the music was sick, the action was incredible and it's an underdog story for the ages. my critique about the politics is that it didn't go deep enough, other than that, thank you dev patel and jordan peele for giving us this in theatres and i look forward to what comes from writer director producer actor stuntman dev patel next.

Good review. Fun fact, the tabla master in the movie is Zakir Hussain, a multiple Grammy winner.

That’s really cool! I loved the training montage and the music was so fast and energetic, it’s so cool that such a talented artist worked on it!

The movie pushes the same hinduphobic narrative like the one in Slumdog.

As an Indian I hate this movie and continuous portrayed of India by Dev Patel and Hollywood. He has again insulted our culture and forced stereotypes. We have shortcomings like every other nation but why focused on that. If you liked the movie that's great but don't overstate it welcome because Hollywood has mentality of doing more what wokred

Yeah we definitely should’ve acknowledged that it does depict various stereotypes, but it also forges forward with its trans representation and I think that, and the way it’s such a successful directorial debut, is enough to sing its praises over. But absolutely, there are things in the film that Hollywood shouldn’t be taking as a lesson of success to continue

@@TheOutatimeFilmPodcast thanks man. But those aren't trans people as in the west. Those are intersex people means they were born like that unlike in the west. We love our intersex community, they are always invited when a new baby is born in Hindu and Sikh Family to give their blessings.

@@juxtrambo wow that’s so brilliant, thanks for letting me know! Probably should’ve done some research on that tbh 😅 but that’s so cool! They should be loved and welcomed, that’s so great to hear

@@TheOutatimeFilmPodcast yes bro.. they are also religious leaders here whose following are in millions... And that representation is not new for us.. If you watch 'Agneepath'(2012) movie there is exactly the same scene where protagonist uses them for fighting.

The movie pushes the same hinduphobic agenda using a hanuman mask to fool people who are not aware of indian politics laying down more hate against indigenous Hindu people.
