The Earliest E-Types did have welded in louvers and they were a separate rectangular panel. It may be what Monogram was going for, but the top surface never had recesses.

You inspired me over a year ago I have built the subframe like you. I made the suspension by sand casting them in brass and drilled 4mm brass balls as the top and bottom joints. I am now making a steering rack so the steering wheel will turn the wheels.

Cool! I’m really anxious to get back to work on mine. I have to finish the Mercedes first thought.

First; Love your work Scottie. Second; Sound to me that alternative 3 concerning the hood is the best. I believe that you otherwise will have problems with the those lighthouses since the models differs. I can’t wait to see you turning that key and let us hear that beautiful XK straight six roar. Thanks for posting. As I told you before I my self got a box with an unbuilt Jag some wear in my house. See you soon. Love from M

Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it. Yea, I don’t think I want to mess with the light openings.

My two cents....the hood bulges are different. Either cut out and the louvers separately and bond them in, or cut them out with the WHOLE hood bulge and bond the whole shebang.

Thanks! I’ll probably just do the louvers separately. I’m thinking that would be easier. Maybe.

Great video...Scott What if you just cut out the vent portion and measure out the where the plastic vents are inlaid on the hood and just feather in the metal vents. Instead of cutting off the fenders and then fixing head lights holes and maybe the wheel wells wont line up either.

Thanks! I’m pretty sure that’s the way I’m leaning. I think I’ll have less problems that way, and it would be much easier. It just feels like I’m wasting most of the hood. But the point was to get nice louvers, so I guess the rest doesn’t matter.

7.39 minutes, you mention that the sunken look doesn't look right. I think the louvers on the hood (bonnet) represent the early welded in louvers (early series 1 3.8 car) as opposed to the later cars.

Good to know, thanks. I’ll do some more looking online and see if I can find a pic like that. That would probably be easier to replicate. Thanks again.

Well just a quick thought. If you decide to cut the the hood the way you describe. Won’t you the get problems with the hood ornament that’s is the part rises part in the middle, this due to measurements? Is it possible just to cut out the vents?

Good point. I’ll have to do some carful measurements to figure out how to cut it so it matches up the best. Thanks again!
