My dad was a engineer on this line from 1998 to 2006, csx out of Louisville. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 56, but he loved what he did.

I went to Wabash College in the mid 60s. The Monon went through Lafayette (Purdue University), Crawfordsville (Wabash College). New Castle (DePauw University), and Bloomington (Indiana University). On Saturday and Sunday it was full of college kids going between those schools! They sold tickets just to get on the train. There were never enough seats but what great fun!

A good chunk of the south end of the Monon was originally chartered as the New Albany & Salem Railroad in I think 1847. I live about a mile east of Fogg Siding (or about 2 miles east of Salem). I've been across that K&I bridge before albeit by car as at one time it had a toll lane on each side of the bridge for automobile traffic.

Man this video is a perfect 10 in every way. One. The video is classic in general. Two. Videos of trains at Dearborn Station in Chicago my favorite railway station of all time is worth the video by itself for me. Three. The narrator explains in great details on the Monon. I appreciated the history lesson. Four. Little Englewood 63rd Street in Chicago. That was a great catch because videos of trains at that train is very rare. Thank you for that. And Five. Our host. She really makes the show and setting up the videos to watch is shear priceless. Great work all around. Perfect 10!!!!!!!

I live in the county that has the transportation museum and runs these trains now. Sad news, it used to go from the north side of Indianapolis (where the museum is), to downtown Indianapolis during the Indiana state fair. Our family loved this train. Recently the entire line from the museum to the middle of Indianapolis has been ripped up and made into a walking/bike path. The museum is mostly a memory but still runs a small section of passengers to a northern town about 25 miles away. They used to have a polar express type deal during the holidays. Most of its history is fading away, sadly. A couple of old E Units, a few random cars, and a small yard locomotive is about all that exist. The museum is closed indefinitely to the public. They voted in a referendum for the walking path and most people wanted the train to stay since it's a staple of central Indiana. Sadly, they just went ahead and tore up the tracks anyway. Once in awhile I hear that lonesome horn blow and try to get as many pictures as possible while it's still running. Sorry for the long story. Just wanted people to know about it. Love this channel! BTW, I have always loved the E and F units, and used to call them "sad eyed trains"! Silly, but I still love that bulldog nose look.
