Some musicians used weirdness as a gimmick. Some of the true brilliants are so far ahead of us, that we just didn't understand their style. Hendrix, G.Clinton, T.Monk, Jacco P, Little Richard, Prince, and I can go on with the elites that took us to another level.

@@cusswordsayer3558 Unfortunately I don’t play, but I’ve been a very serious listener and lover of the bass since the early 70’s. I got into the love of the instrument through the Jazz Rock “Fusion” era and R&B/Funk years. I love the up right bass as well as the electric. I’ve listened and studied the sound of the major and minor good player. Without sounding like a “Jazz snob” , but just from a factual position the Jazz guys from a theory, technical and musical understanding level are far superior players especially as improvisers. Therefore I tend to give more credit to those serious types of players. They know chords, harmonics and scales etc as well arranging. Most of the top players such as Stanley Clarke, Jaco and Charles Mingus etc. played piano. Therefore harmonically they know the interrelationship of notes in order to produce great bass playing. Marcus Miller recently said a lot of guys are playing many notes, but it’s not connected to anything, because a lot guys don’t have the understanding of the notes.
