Several areas of Shillong were deluged on Friday morning after a heavy spell of rainfall amid the onset of monsoons. According to sources, the downpour caused flooding in Pynthorbah, Pynthorumkhrah, Langkyrding and Nongmynsong localities of the Meghalaya capital.
In Pynthor, clogging caused rainwater to seep into 4-wheelers parked on the roadside. Some of them were caught on camera getting swept away by the deluge. Meanwhile, locals in Nongmynsong complained that although flash floods are a yearly affair, authorities are yet to take cognisance of the matter despite their complaints.
It needs mention here that Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati has forecast heavy rainfall across most parts of northeast India within the next 48 hours.
According to the Meteorological department, heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds are forecast over northeast Indian states, including Meghalaya, over the next five days.
This is due to the strong low-level southerly and south-westerly winds bringing increased moisture from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India.
