grouper is not a wrasse species. Grouper is more closely related to sea bass than wrasse. Wrasse is Labriformes and grouper is Serranidae.

That is awesome fishing guys and one hell of a PB.I can see you guys are hard core fishos and love your sport ,and i am not going to go on about how you killed the big one, not against anyone taking a fish for a feed and none wasted. Very difficult evironment to land a fish of that size there and trying to avoid damage for catch and release, but maybe a way to do it would be check out how the ISO rock fishing guys have nets set up on the end of telescopic poles. You may be able to customize a bigger net head to fit on the end of the gaff pole you used in the vid or come up with something similar. Cheers and keep up the hard core vids!
@DixonsFishing

thanks for the support and a honest reply. we do have a big net we use at times and can land fish to this size with it instead of the gaff hook. we didn't have it this day as it was an exploring mission and wasn't expecting this fish. it would of been good to release it but with no rock pool handy and how rough it was it would of been a tough ask to release a fish that size and be sure it would survive.

@@TheNy615 That's right mate, not a Napolean Wrasse. The Napolean Wrasse are a very tropical fish, these Blue Groper (not Grouper) are found around the Southern half of Australia in much cooler water. The name is confusing as they are not members of the Grouper family, they are a Wrasse just like the Napolean.
