This is common place and it's been a cycle ever since the start. I started with Gen 2 and noticed the apprehension from Unite fans going into Tri. Its perfectly valid to feel this way. I will argue this, in most cases, the fights in Mh always had an option to just leave to sharpen (including Arena fights in which you can farcaster to sharpen) the mounts is just making that simpler while keeping you in the action somewhat. Additionally it really isn’t a necessary feature, if you think it makes things too easy then don’t sharpen with them. I see no issue with a feature that you can completely ignore if you find it to be too convenient.

@Rusty_Spy

Making it simpler is kinda the issue though, getting away from a fight to get some breathing room wasn't always so simple, even in World a particularly aggressive or monster could really stay on your ass if you were trying to run away. Running away relies on your stamina and you're almost always slower on foot compared to the monster, both of these limitations are removed by your mount. And in the case if arena fights, a farcaster is a consumable item you have to bring with you to make use of, and materials to craft them if you want to use more than one, again something a mount makes obsolete.

I think it’s funny, because exactly what you just said was also said about World at first. I think seeing as we will have to deal with packs and harsher environments, the mount won’t feel as op as in rise because you could be surrounded by five monsters which can instantly knock you off again. So in terms of the mount it doesn’t look like it will make you too powerful. Who knows maybe there’s a cooldown on calling it? Also, Palicos have always talked. pretty sure you can tone down the rate of speech the characters use in-game or straight up mute them, and its possible we will have the signature monster hunter (ala sims) language as an option like in World and Rise. apart from that, this is shaping up to be practically identical in overall design and themes from World and Iceborne, with some Rise QoL thrown into the mix, plus it seems the Seikret wont attack monsters like the palamute does, it plays the role of a palamute when it comes to traversal and mobility in combat, but also mixing mechanics from Rise with the Wirefall. i also believe that the open world will act like expeditions from previous games, a big open zone that gradually gets opened up by completing story hunts and unlocking the blocked-off zones, creating a seamless open world that you can travel by foot to each and every area, with the option to fast travel to camps youve unlocked. Plus, i think it will have no time limit, and no faint limit, but if you start hunting a main quest monster, or a monster youve designated for you to hunt yourself as an optional, then the monster will retain the classic 50 minute quest timer, and will simply run away and leave the expedition if that timer runs out, allowing you to stay in the open world and not get booted back to the main hub. its also possible that when fighting a designated/quest/story monster, that you will then only have 3 faints until the guild bails you out and takes you back to camp/main hub, but regular optional monsters wont abide by this rule, only reducing your potential rewards each time you faint, thats what i think they will go for with the hunting format, allowing you to do everything in one singular outing and only needing to return to the hub to upgrade/craft/continue story elements.

It’s perfectly valid to be nervous for a new monster hunter game, but the only take I particularly disliked was your thoughts on the character designs in the beginning. You don’t have to worry about being ‘cancelled’, but it felt very pointed towards certain groups of people. To be honest, I don’t like Gemma’s design much either but I feel like saying ‘it’s because she looks left-leaning’ is kind of pointed. I’m excited for Wilds and I hope you have fun with it too!

This video isn't divisive at all. When world was first announced and we saw what was coming, it didn't completely feel like monster hunter to me either. The reason for that was because the generations prior didn't have the level of quality that world did. It was a huge step up from games prior, they went further than anything before. I didn't think they could take another step like this, yet here we are with wilds. It may not feel like monster hunter, but that doesn't mean it isn't. It's just a new chunk of the world that we now get to see.

10:47 When you say that hunters being able to talk is a step back in immersion, I don’t get it. Idk how hunters being able to talk is now less immersive than just death staring into another hunter and know exactly what to do, ESPECIALLY when this game is about actual hunting. You really gotta separate a monster from its pack to have the best chance of success in this game. No more just going in like a caveman since you will need to think and strategize and for hunters to actually communicate and say things with one another is a HUGE boost in immersion and I mean DRAMATICALLY as you are now making up a plan to isolate a single rathalos from its pride. People wanted MH to be more of a hunting game, now here you go. Edit: being seasonal hunters doesn’t mean that we don’t need to plan or talk to one another to know what to do. Pros aren’t mute, and we can’t be that good since we all gonna start off with 1 star quests anyways. In the trailer we hear our hunter communicating with our handler about a plan of isolating one of the bears from its pack by knocking down one of the pillars and your saying just doing it with no pre context is more immersive, get outta here lol

Listen... I 100% see what you're saying about the side characters, and by see I mean I get the correlation... But I don't agree with that... I'm not saying there can't or isn't an overlap, but both of those characters look like amateur adult models. And the thing is I don't mean that in a bad way, in fact I think its awesome, when I say I want more variety and body types and diversity people take that some people take that to mean either I want more boring realistic worlds, or that I'm some puritan who hates sexy people. And thats bullshit, because you can make awesome waifus that look more mature, or more masculine, or more mousey, or even chubby. People are hot. I... okay I really like both of these new ladies, in the same way I like the characters in Hades. I want more hot characters and I don't want them all to look like the same korean stewardess or Japanese idol. Tall, blonde, buff, tomboy make brain unga bunga. Mousey girl with glasses that may or may not be a freak make mind go buzz. But... its yet to be seen if there's anyone who can match the sheer beauty of The Admiral.

I have the opposite opinion on the voiced character. I’m my view having a silent protagonist, takes me out of the immersion of a game. Playing world with my goofy silent lad nodding along to full voiced conversations made me feel like a robot. In universe the hunters are able to speak so I for one am greatly looking forward to having a voice.

about talking cat. yes is weird hear a palico talk with a chibi voice, but some other oldes cat can "speak", like Trenya, meowscular chef, Grammeowster Chef, etc. they all have dialogues in game. but in our characters still crynge, i prefer play the game in Wyverian. about the last part, the "quicktime event", maybe they learn something about the collab with FF14 (behemonth quest) and make rolls in the hunts (like tank, dps, support) and try to implement in this game somehow

Man this comment section is full of condescending people acting as if it is childish to become attached to anything about a series and as if any changes to a series is a step forward. I don't think your comment about the girls is a complaint about their politics per se but rather that they feel anachronistic to the primitive fantasy you probably prefer, as do I. The cat feels like it is going to get very annoying very fast. We'll see, but it will be an uphill battle to make it not annoying. I'm cautious about the story because it is hard to imagine a MH story with that kid that isn't on rails and tacked onto the gameplay loop rather than integrated into it, we'll see. And as for the talking, my girlfriend tries to get me to play games where the player character and other NPCs feel the need to fill EVERY moment with inane dialogue and I can not make myself play those games, the fact that MH is looking to these types of games for inspiration makes me feel gross. A lot of cool stuff in the trailer as well, I never liked the look of 4U, it felt cartoony with the color scheme, but this is such a bold impressive art style. Absolutely stunning. Mixed feelings all around.

I think there was a lot of stuff you and lots of other people have misunderstood from this trailer, and its not your fault, capcom hasn't done the best job at communicating a lot of stuff. I would watch Gaijins video for some clarification. Of course no one but Capcom knows what the actual plan is, but I definitely don't think voiced protagonist means we have a clearly defined character. I think there will be multiple voices to choose from and you'll make your appearance. Dragons dogma 2 is probably a good analog. I also am pretty sure it's not open world in the way you think. Could be wrong about all of this of course, but my main point would be to not jump to any conclusions.

@@HeyJayOfficial This is a trend in MH games that's been happening for a while. MH1-MH3 feel like a synthesis of prehistoric and medieval, whereas MH4-MH5 feel almost "steampunk" in a way. The characters are becoming more and more modern, but I think part of that is just how... realistic these people look. I thought it was shocking at first but now that I'm used to it I can see it becoming quite natural and even immersive.

@@HeyJayOfficial Only one that felt like that to me, personally, was Alma. When I 1st saw her I immediately thought, "College student working on a paper on her Macbook at Starbucks, for a "Studies" class where the degree for it will ultimately be completely useless" lol Anyways, it does seem that the designs and such seems to get more "modern-ish" as each MH entry releases; From 1st to 6th gen. Even the lore from NPCs, quest descriptions, monster mats, ore, etc. hint at tech evolving and culture advancing. Slowly starting with "Cavepunk" to "sort of Modern-ish". That and the difference between Direct Guild Business and Remote Village in terms of designs is noticeable. MHStories 1 and 2 hints at this on the major cities having a more modern look.

Couple of things: I really hope that there’s an option to have classic mewing for the Palicos. Already not liking that they can talk audibly and not just through text. I also hated Navirou. Maybe I’m just not used to using Palamutes in the “quickly run away from a fight to sharpen” way. I always kept mine around because I based mine off a very friendly wolf in this special sanctuary like place. So RIP Palamutes since they can’t fly and/or glide. I’m kind of sad that the hunter seems to talk during cutscenes. There’s less immersion and potential for the player to build their own lore. Love the what I will call a cross between Tetranadon and Pukei-Pukei. He looks too cute! Otherwise I’m fine with what was shown so far!

Right?? He was super judgemental in his very first review of Monster Hunter and the fans guided him/helped him to learn the mechanics so he could enjoy it. I feel like he hasn't really learned anything from that experience in relation to being open-minded. It's hyper-judgemental to see characters wearing clothes, having a hair cut or tanned skin and saying they're extreme left-wing vibes. Like, seriously? He clarified in another comment that it was a poor choice of words and he meant to say 'modern,' which I could understand with the 'I might see them at a protest' comment (if he went to protests or something, it's the same as someone going to the pub often saying 'they look like I might see them at a pub). It's the follow-up that makes me think it's total bull: "which I'm afraid will attract the worst kind of people on the Internet" and "she looks like extreme left-wing vibes." Like, at that point, you're not making a point about them being modern, you're making a point about them seeming like the stereotypical left-wing person. Just kind of came out of nowhere. I was one of the people who tried to help him learn MH on his first video about the series and I've followed him here and there since. It's kind of a bummer to see he's still not being open-minded about games, but this time (not solely, but partly) on the basis of what a character looks like. I'm not entitled to have him think or act in any particular way, but I was very proud of him for persevering and jumping headfirst into the community so it was pretty lame to see that he's still so judgemental. Alright I think I ranted about that for way too long.

No in a million years would capcom create a MH game where you are forced to play a character. MH games have always allowed customized characters. The difference is that your customized character is voiced, thats the most significant part which is new in this game.
