So, Glaive? Step one, trust your kinsect it is your life line to winning. Step two, never fully engage without the proper buffs (at least a red to have the flexible combos remember to roll to get out of the reset animation if you missed). Step three, do not be afraid to use the kinsect as a range weapon while you figure out how to fight a monster (looking at you Kirin). Step four, the jump animations are fantastic but be smart you can get smacked down either by jumps, touching a charging monster, or sudden bursts of lightening. Step five, get all the buffs and attempt to mount if you work fast enough you can get a strong flurry of blows in.(and you can explode the clouds while mounted so do target the monster with essence before mounting to keep stumbling it) Step six, never neglect your kinsect, level it up with your weapons, they have feelings too.

Mount when you have buffs, because the buffs can turn 1 button press into 2-3 attacks, which means faster and more efficient mounting. Then, only when the monster is down, should you focus on pure DPS.

As someone who has used the glaive in previous games (specifically Generations) And I am just beginning World. However, it may be obvious, but acquiring the buffs is much easier in World and I would have to say a good rule of thumb for the buffs is head=red, legs=white, body=orange, and the tail is usually green. Also your kinsect will lose stamina when its away from you, so when you are trying to get your buffs, keep it away from you as little as possible, this also helps with aiming at the spots listed above for the needed colors. Another thing is that the glaive is primarily an aerial weapon and should be treated as such, staying grounded will limit your capabilities so don't worry about "jumping too much" just be sure to also watch your own stamina as well because that is what you need to get yourself in the air. Happy Hunting :D

For anyone using the Great Sword: Sheathe it. The monster took some steps back? Sheathe it. Monster looks ready to strike? Sheathe it and dodge. You're slow, the guard is only best used as a immediate last resort or to block things like a flash or roar AND using it lowers your sharpness when struck, so just dodge. It's almost never worth it to take the very slow stroll over to a monster to swing your surf-board sword or try to block the attack, so just sheathe and dodge. Also, status effect great swords are not worth it for the status itself. Being the big slam sword, it's big damage with few hits, which means less applications of the status. Doesn't mean it wont proc whatever status is on it eventually, but it's nowhere near as reliable or useful as status Dual Blades or Switch Axes. And, while I'm not a Long Sword main, got one important tip for anyone planning to use one in multiplayer: Watch where you swing it. Long Sword is notorious for causing fellow players to trip and stumble as it's swung around, which is never fun to deal with. Don't attack a monster right next to someone, take a few steps to the side so you wont cut them off from their attacks.

Hunting Horn main here. Frankly, if you ever wanted to pick up the horn at some point, MH:W is the perfect game to do so. I feel like the motion values on most of the basic attacks got nerfed, but that's because the HH got quite a lot of changes. As far as I remember HH users always followed the same pattern: buff your squad --> dps until buffs expire --> buff up again. MH:Gen tried to solve this tedious pattern (in which you were enslaved by the buff downtimes) by allowing you to keep up 2 songs at time with the double notes (well, as long you sticked to the monster). But now with the triple song stacking and the multiple encores you basically have zero buff downtime, since you can play 3 songs and encore them at the same price of playing and encoring one (which basically translates in more reliable dps) and that's why the motion values on the basic moves got nerfed (attacks are on average 13-16% weaker). But that's not all tho. The freaking recitals and encores motion values skyrocketed to insane levels. Back in the days people used to smack monsters heads while playing the songs just to style it off but now you're actually incentivized to do so just because the damage is crazy (185 total motion value over 5 smacks for the backwards encore and you can even roll out of it after the animation, what the hell). I mean how cool is to K.O. a monster you're giving your back to while playing the songs of your people?

I thought HH was pretty weak again. I want to use it as an offensive weapon for once, instead of a support weapon. IG and DB can be used perfectly without the buffs (I even mained IG in 4U and almost never used the kinsect), but HH even struggles with buffs active. I hope they would show some more love in World, but instead, they broke the DB instead.
@TheRustyCopper
6 жыл бұрын
Actually I believe HH is now at its performance peak - I mean, the sole fact that you have basically no buff downtime translates into more reliable DPS, since you're not forced to waste your time into playing songs. Keep also in mind that recitals/encores are now like 100-150% stronger than they used to be, you're actually rewarded with INSANE DAMAGE if you manage to encore the songs while hitting a monster. Of course, HH now has a significantly higher skill cieling, that's a thing to take note of.

Sword and Shield main here. The noob toothpick might not be flashy, but it's practical and the hunter's flexible friend. First off, you potentially are the most consistent source of damage per second for all weapons. You can afford to be relentless and aggressive, because you don't have to step out of the fight to sharpen or pop a healing potion. Because of that you will always be a pain in the monster's backside, stunning and tripping him and leaving him open to everyone else. You may not hit hard, but it all adds up with time, and with your usually great elemental damage you'll likely be among the top. SnS traditionally has the greatest Dragon elemental damage among all weapons at high rank play. For starting ranks, Poison is a strong and accessible choice. KO damage in particular has been buffed from previous entries, so Shield bashes are worth trying. Be sure to integrate the Slinger into your combat. Keep an eye out for Slinger bombs, and save them for when a monster tries to run away. You might flinch it and stop it. Though everyone can do this, you're the one ready and able to do it at a moment's notice. Bring Lifepowders and other powders to your hunts. Just do it. Everyone else will love you. Some armour sets even give you skills to spread your item effects across everyone close by - with this and a SnS, you might kick a Hunting Horn user off his "best support weapon" chair. Lastly, remember that SnS is the best weapon for a hunt against a monster you've never faced before. The great thing about a jack of all trades is you'll never be caught out without an answer to some new trick that might trip a more specialised weapon. Improvise, adapt, overcome. Hope this helps, good hunting!

Longsword/Gunlance main here. Some general advice on the playstle of the two weapons. Longsword first: Due to reasonably long commits on most of its moves, the thought process with the Longsword in its basic execution should be very similar to that of the Greatsword, land a few hits and then preposition. However, by combining that process with the Fade-Slash you are able to keep moving while maintaining a constant offense and the large build of Spirit by landing it implicitly encourages this method of approach. The other big element of using the Longsword is striking smart, not fast. As the long commits leave one open for quite a bit and can very easily lead to receiving unneeded damage, the Longsword allows one to stall any attack in a combo for 2-3 seconds before it is dropped. Gauge the distance and the monsters' movements, then decide how you want to proceed. For Helmbreaker I recommend trying to maximize your usage time of the red bar, it's very tempting to nail the Helmbreaker the second you get into red, but try and hold it and use the sword as aggressively as you can until the bar ist almost depleted, then look for an opportunity to use the Helmbreaker to send it off. ------------ Gunlance: Gunlance can be very tempting to just use the shelling indiscriminately, Fullbursting does a lot of damage and the Wyrmstake can be use right behind it for a lot of immediate damage, but you will find yourself resharpening your weapon more than you're actually fighting with it. Use the Lance strikes to deal the bulk of your damage when possible, and use quick shells or a Wyrmstake of opportunity after a wide slam to pepper damage where it matters for breaks. This maintains a sharpness for much longer and once you find an opportunity for a lot of damage at once, when a monster has been tripped or toppled for example, then unleash the full burst potential of your weapon. The exception to this is Wyvern Fire as it doesn't degrade the sharpness and is tied to a cooldown rather than reloading. Use this whenever you get the chance to. Wasting one is the lesser mistake to never firing it in the first place. Secondly, being familiar with your shell type will make your use much more effective. Normal, Long and Wide have very different handling and damage priorities than their explosion cone and ammo capacity. All types share the same base damage values at each level, but apply modifiers on the different shelling types. For example Normal will have a penalty on quick shelling, but a positive modifier for each shell during Full Bursts. Long has the most powerful Wyvern Fire and Wide has a much more powerful charge shot. Knowing these quirks isn't mandatory but can help explaining a lot of confusion about shelling damage. the last two things I want to mention is the shelling-cycle and angling. The shelling cycle is pretty simple, when you fire a shell it resets your melee string, this allows you to thrust three times, fire a shell, then continue stabbing another three times. this can be done until you run out of ammo. However, in that case you can hit R2+Circle for a quickload that will refill your shells (not your Wyrmstake however) and will allow you to continue your string in the same way. Angling on the other hand refers to firing shells at different angles rather than straight forward. Using R2+Triangle for an upwards thrust or hitting triangle while walking for the running thrust will allow you to fire a shell at a roughly 45° angle upwards, letting you hit things that would be often out of reach. If you fire a shell at this angle, the next thrust in the combo will be an upwards thrust rather than forward -and firing two shells followed by a Wyrmstake will use an elevated angle that is only available through this method.- _Correction: After testing the animations a little more closely, it turns out I had mistaken gut feeling with fact. The forward Wyrmstake is generally fired at a slightly elevated angle roughly matching that of the elevated shots, but is also capable of tracking down to hit targets close to the ground, covering both with the same attack._ Using the upwards scoop and then firing will cause you to aim almost straight up, which is perfect for hitting flying monster or targeting wings. Hitting Triangle after an upwards shell will result in another upwards scoop rather than any of the thrusts, allowing you to maintain a lot of damage above you or immediately continue into a downward slam. Similarly, firing two shells followed by a Wyrmstake will aim the nail straight up.

DeathStalker Syncro Heh, I noticed a lot of grammar errors and typos I'll clean up later, but much appreciated. TheFlamingTornado1 The Helmbreaker is a combo move. You can execute it as long as you have at least one spirit boost from a Roundslash. Hit R2+Triangle after any attack or roll with your weapon drawn and your character will wind up for a big lunging thrust. If it hits, they run up the monster and leap high into the air. Press Triangle again to use a downward slash that will cost one gauge of spirit boost (that is for example red down to gold). Hitting the slash will not only do a lot of damage corresponding to the original gauge color but also give you a boosted state in which your spirit gauge refills automatically at a speed making moves like the full spirit combo and Foresight Slash into Roundslash almost free. +Mega174 It's a weapon that has admittedly a lot of nuance in its mechanics, but it is in my opinion quite straightforward in its execution. Don't worry too much about the details at the beginning, once you feel comfortable with your pace the weapon will teach you new tricks as you go along.

Insect Glaive veteran here, quick advice. I suggest investing in more kinsect speed above all else. The insects damage is negligible and you are mostly using it for essences. Faster it is the faster you can return and send it out to get more. For insect Glaive veterans coming to this game master our new acrobatic attacks. It helps keep you out of others ways when they are all in cluster below hitting each other and can help in fights like nergigante in keeping off spikes on wings. I just farmed him for the full set and it's sick. Remember to not just use the air though, you are still strong on the ground. Side note faster kinsect can be great for times when the monster is making a run for it to get several hits in. Personally I take this weapon into every fight due to it's versatility. I usually do every hunt alone first and this weapon always makes me feel powerful and prepared.

More tips, if a monster has a point you can gather health try to use that before you dip into potions, you can also use your kinsect to knock down environmental things like rocks to do serious damage to monsters. Currently I'm trying to figure out how to control my kinsect after I send it out better. I have been able to send it out and then direct a bit in other directions. Oh another tip is to have your kinsect hold a charge before you think you are going to dip out of your full charges. Sometimes wait to collect the kinsect after you have white and red to keep your essence up time longer and attacks strong. I play very aggressively once I got my essences but you got to be careful. Remember the white essence is the most important. It gives you the mobility to get out of the way of attacks even without dodging. Red is next followed by yellow for defense. White is the catalyst that amplifies the other two. Insect Glaive is an absolute beast of a weapon in capable hands. You never stop mastering it. You will die every now and then even if it's rare when you are good with it. Sometimes you just made a bad choice and get monster combo'd lol just learn from the mistake and remember the monster should fear you and you should respect it as your prey. Gather those essences then show the monster who is the top of the food chain.

Veteran of the Monster Hunter series, so I'll leave in a couple of tips for the new guys. I have a couple of weapons I like to keep in my personal pocket, although this guy does a pretty good job of explaining allot of it. Lemme talk about some of my favorites. Sword and Shield: This is the weapon I've probably used the most in all of my experience with monster hunter, along with the longsword. Despite its....lack luster appearance; don't be fooled. This shit does some powerful damage in the right hands, as most weapons do. They give it to you in the beginning cause it's the most versatile and pretty easy to get used to, But that's only 1 part. You think cause that it has a shield; you have to play passive? Wrong. This weapon is made to be aggressive. This has a good damage output, without taking away from mobility. Whether it's to mounting monsters, or going in for a couple of stabs and putting up your shield afterwards, it's able to adapt to various situations if needed. The shield is also used as a weapon, causing stun damage and breaking monster parts. Its a very reliable weapon, so don't take this lightly. Longsword: Flashy weapon, but style isn't the only thing it has. You hit hard and fast, causing detrimental damage to monsters, making them quiver from your sheer power. As you attack, there is a gauge that builds up next to your health bar. As that Gauge builds up, you get to use a move called "Spirit Slash" which allows you to do multiple empowered slashes. If you manage to get the last slash in at the end of the combo, the blade glows a set color. White being the first level, Yellow being the second, Red being the third. The colors represent an attack buff, with White being the weakest buff, to Red being the strongest. With this weapon, you are a force to be reckoned with. Gunlance: This weapon is a combo of defense and offense. You're on the frontlines, dealing big damage and guarding against relentless attacks. Now, with your shield you can poke away at the monster (Provided that they aren't behind you) without worrying about getting harmed. But this isn't any passive gameplay happening here either. You are a major damage dealer, whether it be exploding parts, or just completely destroying the monster to the point where they just fall over from getting staggered. Heavy Bowgun: You are the ranged damage dealer. Maybe you don't like being too close to combat, or maybe you just like guns. This weapon is still formidable, providing elemental damage and along with the explosions that we all love. People should not push this weapon aside, as this could save them between life and death. Now in this game, you're able to dodge much more freely and provide the much needed cover that we expect a gunner to provide. Be thankful to your gunner, cause it's not easy trying to cover for your ass. Light Gunner: Right off the bat as this name suggests, this is weapons gives more speed then firepower. But don't worry, this weapon still packs a punch. This weapon still has the elemental damage the Heavy Bowgun has, but (Correct me if I'm wrong) this allows you to buff allies with much needed Attack/Defense, or Heal allies if they that quick pick-me-up. Now these are only SOME of the weapons I used, but these are the ones I used and enjoyed the most. I hope I provided some insight to help you along this long and (at times) aggravating journey. I hope to hunt along side some of you someday.

Hunting Horn is OP in multiplayer. Dual Blades in solo (in world at least) Also, if you decide to pick up GS, don't keep it unsheathed. It's meant to be a hit and run weapon. Unsheathe, execute a charged slash and if possible a combo, then sheathe again. Rinse and repeat.

I personally main the GS and I think that the best way to play it is to go for the true charge then roll and tackle to get straight to the second slash again and then into the true charge slash. You get way higher DPS by doing that, since you don't "waste" time sheathing and unsheathing + you can roll right after the true charge slash has landed, so it takes even less time to land the next true charge :)

I think something missed when talking about the lance is just how mobile it actually is. It has access to a back/sidestep which is useful for repositioning, getting out of the way of attacks, or just using it to move towards the enemy. It's useful for all of this because it can be used up to 3 times in a row. It's actually so strong that if you were to invest in evasion skills, you can make the sidesteps your main form of defense as opposed to using the counters. If you're going for guard lancing instead of the aforementioned evade lancing, you will still find the sidesteps useful for lining up attacks, and it can still be useful to dodge every now and then, especially before you have higher levels on the guard skill. A major gap closing tool for the guard lancer is the shield advance which allows you to move forward a little bit with your shield in front of you, allowing you to keep up with the enemy without leaving yourself as open as when using the charge.

If you enjoy the Dual Blades, I suggest finding and memorizing Wiggly Lichi spawn places, and building dash juice as much as you can as it will cut your stamina drain in half while using demon mode. While helpful with every weapon and playstyle, it's particularly helpful woth the Dual Blades and Insect Glaive.

So, you wanna weild a lance eh? Well, the sidestep is pretty useful. If you get skills that upgrade it, like evade extender and evade window, you can employ a technique known as "Evade Lancing" this allows you to attack more often senese you won't be bogged down from blocking, but requires more skill. There's also a handy new move with this game. No, not the power guard. The shield advance, now you can use it in any direction after an attack, and even then it also allows you to do a lounging attack. This gives you the best way to cover ground, in any direction, while still guarding and then have another way to keep moving.

Been maining Lance since gen 3 and can say that, since the inception of jump attacks in gen 4, the Lance has gotten an incredible amount of fun. I'm personally more of a fan of guard lancing though. It's not better, by any means, but it feels more satisfying to me.

I recently found out that when you use a guard advance and then the lounge attack, you can go straight into another guard advance. You can really move around monster. I use guard advances so often, to back up after a couple combos, to move from one part to another on an immobilized monster while still dealing damage. AND I cannot stress this enough you can block roars and any sorta flash. You can even parry them, the lance probably has the most reliable source of damage sense only tremors and windsweeping can really stop a combo chain. Windsweeping is easy to get skills for, I'm not sure about tremmors though...

Don’t mind me. Just an insect glaive main passing by. *hums as I walk away casually* By the way here are some tips RELY ON YOUR KINSECT They can turn the tables in a second, applying poison and blast damage DONT BE AFRAID As a newcomer, I realized that some monsters can move either really fast or really slow, so you can use your vault to your advantage When the monster is fast moving (Tobi Kadachi, Nergigante, etc) vault only when it is safe, but if they are slow, (barroth) vault as much as possible, but don’t vault if you’re in danger. VAULT SAVES Nergigante grows his spikes to a black when he is full grown, so he will do his divebomb attack. If you’re lucky, you can vault and escape the automatic KO . This can be done with other monsters too. Thanks and happy hunting!

My opinion on all the weapons :3 Greatsword - High damage, overcompensation, and the feeling of immense power in your hands (Highest Damage in a Single Hit, this is my main, yes I overcompensate for my lack of friends... :) ) Hammer - Same as Greatsword but you want more mobility and speed (KO King) Sword and Shield - You either are experimenting or you like the fast movements of the SnS, sadly your hunts may take a little while due to the damage output and you're usually appointed as Team Healer Longsword - You like flashy moves and elegant fast hitting combos, enjoying weaving around the monster's attacks SwitchAxe - Same as LS but you like a little bit more explosion and damage BUT it comes with a sacrifice of managing your blade's charges Dual Blades - Fast, hard hitting, cool looking, and just the weebiest weapon there is, gotta be honest, it's fun using it Hunting Horn - Heavy hitting (with the right buffs and combos) and a rarity, you will be like a ray of sunshine to someone, well, depends, the one I met got KO'd a lot, so it still depends on the person's skills Bow - Spammin arrows and spread, you gotta manage stamina, coatings, and also know the monster's elemental weakness Heavy Bowgun - Walking turret, slow moving but heavy hitting, especially the Cluster builds Light Bowgun - Imagine a shotgun, yeah, like that, but you have several different bullet types, unlike the bigger counterpart, you can't put on a shield and use the clusters, but you do have a wider variety of ailments and elements Glaive - Get red buff and go to town, learn the Arial combo for when the monster is up and the longer on ground combos for when it's taken down Charge Blade - Hooo boy, the combos... Learn em and don't button mash, manage the phials or else you'll bounce off the monster. Lance - You're like an iron wall and if you Master the counter attacks, you can do a pretty good damage output, give em a try sometime, I sure had fun charging in like a steam train Gunlance - If you like the Lance's pokes but you want more "Oomf!" To it, then strap a gun, you lose the steam train charge but you gain the ability to shoot in short distance, create an explosion, and stick a bomb in the monster

Hunting horn main here.. Sooo just saying, if you're reading this and you ARE interested in using the HH but have no idea how to use it, I will tell ya. 1. Three different notes 2. For each attack you will make a note, so if you left-click (pc user sry) it will make a purple note, right click is a red note and both right- and left click you will do a blue one. 3. If you do these in a specefic order, which shown on the top right ( something like "purple, red, blue, purple") it will say to press the certain button. On pc Ctrl or in Germany strg. XD If you press the button now, you will swing your horn infront of you, blast, (which does a lot of damage) then plays a song, which in the order I wrote will boost your attack aka strength. If questions exist, ask me. C:

Might as well ad into the tips list GreatSword Main here: IMO the way you approach this weapon should not be like how you approach other swords. You don't have mobility (like none at all). and you should only be guarding if you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO (it heavily depletes sharpness). The core of playing this weapons is to look for opportunities. deal your damage and get out of there. It's common to run around in circles waiting for your opponent to attack first, then go in and unload a level 3 charge. It's a little ironic that with such a big weapon, you are actually one of the more "passive" styles of play. Waiting for that opportunity to unload everything you have some essentials of playing -NEVER walk around with the weapon unsheathed. You either are next to the monster dealing damage, rolling around to dodge or putting away your weapon and running away. -the Key to GS is timing. You need to anticipate how much of an opening you have and deal the appropriate move. Maybe you can only get a quick draw in, before rolling out and sheathing. Maybe you can unload a quick lv 3 charge. What if you have slightly more time than a level 3 but not enough for the full combo, where the smart way is to take the extra bit of time to cancel into your 3rd slash and charge that instead). -learn to use s [the fractions of a second during a role that you are invincible]. It can't be a daunting challenge at first, but once you get the hang on it, they are a lifesaver against the fast swipes a monster can dish out. --more on this later. -the tackle is your friend. It is an AMAZING new move to this game. you deal impact damage, but more importantly it is the move you can use to "cancel" your charge. The whole ideal of canceling is GS only has 1 main combo. Triangle + triangle + triangle. the slashes later on in the combo being more powerful than the previous (and they all charge). the tackle is a move used to cancel your current slash and then start the next slash. So If you have slightly more time. triangle + cancel + triangle + cancel + triangle. lets you use the most powerful attack in GS only for slightly more time. It's also very usefull as you get superarmor (You cannot get knocked back, but you still take damage) good for keeping your position and tanking the hit in order to land your slash after. -as for reccomended armor skills :I'm in the camp that the GS does enough damage as is, and does not need more damage skills. What the GS needs is Consistency and surviviability. And here are some useful skills for helping -Focus (faster charging of the GS). This is just to get more opportunities for you to get damage in. - QUICK SHEATHE. Rememeber How I said you need to put away your weapon and only block if you must. This allows you to put away your weapon faster, so you can use up less time egressing out of an attack run (and devote that time to charging). - Critical Draw. This is for consistant damage. It makes it so your draw attack will always crit (if max and no negative affinity on the weapon). As the vast majority of your opportunities are for the first slash of the combo only, this is just an extra 25% damage. -Evasion. This is useful for getting the s buff during a roll. With enough of this you can doge the vas majority of attacks just by timing your roll (this means that instead of putting away your weapon you can to doge the attack up close, and go straight into a tackle and another slash) I hope this helps guys. The GS has always been a neglected weapon as it is very clunkly but with with the different mindset, and some unique armor skills, you are dealing some absolutely insane damage.

As an Insect Glaive user I found it’s super helpful to set camera distance to Far and NOT use the games auto lock. It’s much easier to control yourself in thee air if the camera isn’t turning every half a second. Never fight a monster without at LEAST the Red buff! The buffs go as follows: Red- Increased Damage and better combo chains White- Increases Movement Speed Orange- Increases defense and prevents knockback while attacking in conjunction with the red buff. Your Kinsect is your best friend, once you get your desired buffs send it out to attack the monster with you. Try to have your kinsect attack weak points. It greatly helps especially if you have the Health Kinsects. The Insect Glaive works best against flying monsters such as Diablos and you can literally combo attack it for days. Also DONT BE TURNED OFF BY THE DESIGN OF SOME OF THE KINSECTS (I’m lookin at you Blunt attacking Kinsects) THERES A TON OF ELEGANT DESIGNS OF THE LATER IN THE GAME!

Greatsword main here! So when wielding this badass weapon, you have to have patience and precision. Your damage is quite high, but only if you are are hitting your target. Try to get mount attacks off if you are solo and new. The greatsword in my opinion has one of the best aerial attacks being that you can charge and redirect your position in the air. Mounting also means if you successfully topple the monster you get free charge attacks. (If you do not have the focus skill lvl 3 do not try to get the true charge slash after a mount topple. The monster is usually on its feet and roars during the second part of true charge slash) Also, if you are fighting quicker monsters (i.e. tobi kadachi, odogaron) getting quick draw hits in works wonders. Just run up after an attack, hit your draw attack, roll and sheathe then repeat. Those little hits add up after a while. Never guard unless its a last resort. You are better off dodging. Guarding drains sharpness and everyone hates sharpening. Good Luck and have fun! Show the world why Greatsword is this series baby!

Heavy Bowgun. I've mained HBG since Monster Hunter 3, but MHW has made me dual spec into LBG also. Lining up those piercing shots to piledrive through the monster from head to tail, or wingtip to wingtip, or head to wingtip, etc. It does such satisfying, and high, damage. Specializing in artillery shells in MHW can do some of the highest, most consistent burst damage around, granted you have to micromanage your ammo and craft more ammo mid battle. Despite being so heavy and big, you have some serious dodge. Ironically, the HBG is easier to use when the monster is focusing on you! I went through the entirety of MHU3 as solo HBG, abyssal lagia was the hardest. Going solo HBG in MHW is a bit more complicated, where fighting small monsters is actually better to use a LBG instead. Everyone says LBG is for support, and it does that well, but it can also some seriously stupid amounts of damage with the right setup against small and medium monsters. A few of the LBGs grant a multishot to an ammo type. The most versatile of these is the normal 2 ones, ESPECIALLY that one you get from the arena (which is a pain in the ass to obtain!) Then buff that with gear that enhances normal shots, and provided you can keep all three shots of the burst fire on the monsters weakpoint, it can take down small and some medium monsters with stupidly fast time and dps. In MH3U, there was a LBG that was a grenade launcher on crack, and in..... what was it, MHFrontiers or something, had a LBG that multishot SLICING AMMO four times. I doubt capcom will ever reintroduce such an overpowered LBG again. Still, a triple shot normal 2/3 (I can't remember) LBG can do damage per second rivaling the heavy weight melee weapons, but keeping up those headshots is very hard. tl;dr Use HBG for big bios, and LBG for little bois.

First of all - not true - the 5th mid-air attack will just make you fall through the monster, he wont jump up again. Also, spamming this attack is the worst you can do as IG. Youre destroying your weapons sharpness, you arent doing alot of damage and the damage you are doing isnt even mounting damage apart from the last strike of the attack. If you just cant get any other hits in on a monster you can use it a bit, but using nothing than this attack shows clearly that you have no idea what youre doing when using the IG

Insect glave tips. Just a few things I found helpful and wish I knew early. 1.while mounted, buffs countdowns stop, so be sure to mount while you have it. But learn when to commit, nothing is worse than getting nicked out of the air. 2. While mounted moving between the tail and the body can sever it, just makes things a tad easier. 3. As soon as you can stock the different status effects of insects and glaves. Nothing is an all rounder in this game. 4.Use a glave and insect with different status effects/elements that the monster is weak to. Don't just use one. 5. The best combo of attacks on the ground is light light heavy. If flows through and can be repeated with minimal cooldown.

Well done on this video! The topic is great, but I also want to compliment you on the format as well. I love the sound levels, music choice, pacing, and presentation. The script is also great with its drama and flare while not being too much or annoying. Every other tutorial on the subject I've seen has been, well, dry; not that I can blame them. I greatly appreciate the work you put in the delivery. Keep it up!

Longsword main here Tip: (if you don’t know) time your foresight slash as you get hit you see The white like particle to know when you time it right then press r2 To do last hit of the spirit combo. It most is a fast version to get a red In the spirit gauge but its hard to pull of in the start but you’ll get used to it Once you learn the moves of each monster WOW THIS IS LONG SORRY

Instructions unclear: Got all the way to Nergigante and killed it using nothing but SnS. SnS is the 1st most agile weapon in the game, EASILY. It almost NEVER has you stuck in animations, and the moves that do are optional combo finishers. The BnB has about has much commitment as a hooker. My advice with SnS is learn how to not stop attacking. You have about the lowest dps when the monster is free to attack, but you have an easy time being the highest dps when the monster's rampaging. You make GS hit and run techniques look like an 18 wheeler trying to parallel park.

Greatsword main here. to anyone wanting to try it out, always aim for the tail (or weak spots if you can't cut the tail) Greatsword is one of the best weapons for cutting tails because of it's heavy hitting. it is also that fact that makes it best for weak spots as you will be doing more damage then hitting a protected spot. and if you ever see yourself about to get hit, try to tackle out of your charge

Greatsword main here. Just thought I would mention this. When you are using the greatsword your left shoulder becomes ubsurdly powerful. You can tank through any hit in the game, K.O the monster, and take less damage while doing so. I see alot of people forgetting that this move exist, but it is one of the most useful attacks on the greatsword.

Not sure if this has been said in the comments before, but with the SnS when you end up mounting from the backstep charge attack when you go into triple strike, if you slowly press the buttons in rhythm you can do 40-50 damage until the monster gets KOed from blunt damage to the head rather than the three strikes you'd normally do, taking you from 150ish damage all the way to in the 500's hope this helps any new hunters looking to main SnS

I'm a charge blade main. So, here are some tips I can give you: . . . . . . . .. Charge Blade (チャージアックス chyaaji akkusu, "charge axe") is a weapon category in Monster Hunter World (MHW). Like all Weapons, it features a unique moveset and an upgrade path that branches out depending on the materials used. Please see Weapon Mechanics for details on the basics of your hunter tools. Sword mode boasts mobility and high guard capabilities, while axe mode boasts more powerful attacks. Store up energy while in sword mode, and then use it to deal high damage in axe mode. Charge Blade Weapon Tree For full details, including the Rare 9 and above Iceborne Expansion Weapons please see Charge Blade Weapon Tree See the new Master Rank Iceborne Charge Blades. Charge Blade Traits & Abilities A complex weapon with a sword & shield form and an axe form that both use a phial system. Sword & shield form strikes a balance between mobility, defense, and attack. Axe form trades out defense for powerful attacks, good reach, and the phial's bonus. Sword & shield form builds up charge that can be stored into phials and unleashed in axe form. Charge Blade Guide The most complicated melee weapon in the game, the Charge Blade has two forms and a phial system. Sword & Shield form is the default form and has a nice blend of mobility, defense, and attack. Its combos revolve around alternating between swift and charge strikes with the sword with the occasional shield jab. The main goal of sword & shield form is to build up charge by hitting the monster, and then storing the charge into the phials. The phials are then used in axe form. Axe form has impressive reach and a bit of mobility, but its true power comes from the phials. Some axe attacks use phials, and cause explosions when they impact. The Charge blade only has 5 phials, so these explosive attacks are limited. A third option is also available, where instead of unleashing the phials in the axe, they are used to energize the shield. An energized shield causes phial damage when you block and jab with it, and certain sword attacks will also have the phial's explosive bonus. If a hunter can build up more phials before the shield's energy wears off, they can unleash all phials and the shield's energy in a massive explosion while in axe form. Sword: Condensed Element Slash By chaining a Charge into a Condensed Element Slash while Element Boost is active, your attacks in Sword Mode will also temporarily benefit from phial effects. Guard Reaction Combos When blocking an attack, the guard reaction can be chained into a Sword: Morph Slash, an Axe: Amped Element Discharge, or various other attacks. Phial Effects Attacks with a charge blade are harder to deflect when its phial effects are active, which is useful when targeting tough body parts. Charge Blade Advantages Sword & Shield form is versatile with decent offensive capability, excellent mobility as well as guarding Guard pointing allows experienced hunters to counter attack against monster offenses Axe form is capable of massive damage Has 3 different power-up forms, and one can pick and choose which one(s) to activate depending on personal preferences and the circumstances of the fight Phial effects can be accessed in both forms and provide extra damage and/or stunning power Charge Blade Disadvantages Complex moveset takes time to learn Guarding against attacks deteriorates sharpness Sword & Shield form has limited range Long windups on axe mode (Super-) Amped Elemental Discharge Charge Blade Controls Each move has its own Motion Value (MV), which is used when calculating Raw (physical) Damage. See the article on Attack Power for more information. Sword Form : Standard Attack (can be chained up to three times). MVs: Weak Slash: 12 Return Stroke: 15 Spinning Slash: 30 (guard point) (Hold): Charged Slash. MVs: Charged Rising Slash: 13 Charged Double Slash: 27 + 18 triangle-ps4-controls-small after any Charged Slash: Spinning Slash + : Forward Slash. MVs: 18 + 16 triangle-ps4-controls-small after Sliding Slash: Jumping Rising Slash (can be followed with midair attacks). MV: 21 + after any attack: Shield Thrust. MVs: 12 + 8 triangle-ps4-controls-small + circle-ps4-controls-small after Shield Thrust: Amped/Super Amped Element Discharge r2-ps4-controls-small during AED/SAED windup: Element Roundslash. MV: 30 (guard point) back-ps4-controls-small + triangle-ps4-controls-small during SAED windup: Amped Element Discharge l2-ps4-controls-small during AED/SAED windup: Savage Axe Slash (consumes one phial, activates Power Axe mode). MVs: Element Discharge I: 25 Element Discharge II: 20 + 66 (triangle-ps4-controls-small a while after ED2) Smash: 50 Amped Element Discharge (consumes one phial if available): 82 (Charged Shield) Super Amped Element Discharge (consumes all phials if available): 15 + 82 + 66 (back-ps4-controls-small + triangle-ps4-controls-small during SAED windup) Amped Element Discharge (r2-ps4-controls-small during AED/SAED windup) Element Roundslash (morphs into Sword) (guard point) (l2-ps4-controls-small during AED/SAED windup) Savage Axe Slash (guard point) forward-ps4-controls-small + circle-ps4-controls-small: Rushing Element Discharge I (same MV and follow-ups as Element Discharge I) triangle-ps4-controls-small + circle-ps4-controls-small: Amped/Super Amped Element Discharge : Morph Slash (morphs into Sword). MV: 30 (guard point) l2-ps4-controls-small after any attack: Slinger Burst Both Forms Midair triangle-ps4-controls-small: Jumping Slash. MVs: 22 (Sword) / 55 (Axe) Midair r2-ps4-controls-small: Jumping Morph Slash (morphs and performs Jumping Slash) Notes: Phial explosions can't crit and are unaffected by affinity. Power Axe mode doesn't add phial explosions but physical hits with a MV of 5 each. Charge Blades are a type of Weapon in Monster Hunter World (MHW). This page shows a visual gallery of all different styles for Charge Blades. Weapons are often upgraded based on previous decisions, with different paths leading to different looks and necessitating different materials. You can find detailed upgrade path information in the Charge Blade Weapon Tree or by clicking each individual weapon below. Iceborne Charge Blades are Master Rank Charge Blades in Monster Hunter World Iceborne (MHW). These rare 9 and above weapons were added with the Iceborne Expansion and can only be obtained by players who own the expansion. The weapons use Master Rank Materials that can be obtained by completing quests and doing endgame content.

Charge Blade main here. The charge blade has one supreme quality. Everything this weapon does can act as an attack. My combo: o-button charge, triangle, charge phiols, while charging hold triangle then release, circle/triangle (very powerful sword blow), switch to axe, begin charging axe (circle +tri) and cancel using the block button (does a spinning sword attack), charge phiols again, switch to axe, then do supercharged axe attack. (circle + triangle) Hope this helps.

2 things with the long sword is that if you use the foresight slash correctly and attack again with the spirit slash you automatically get the final slash of the spirit slash combo thus putting you to the white level in 2 hits and the same applies if you do the spirit slash in mid air as the moment you hit the ground you will do the final slash and go to the next gauge level

When using the glaive: Use its mobility to its fullest For example dodge with it by jumping to the side If the monster your fighting has wings then try to hit the monster side to side while in the air and just go ham You will be able to dodge most attacks while up there If the monster doesn’t then try to be more cautious and face it head on back and forth It’s a lot more dangerous when facing them head on since most of all monsters have a dash attack so be careful When getting your insect buff go for the red buff first and then try to get the others when you can And finally: KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR STAMINA This is self explanatory but pls! I have seen so many people not keep and eye on there stamina while using the glaive It’s always a good idea to unsheathe your weapon, and take a break And when our full Get out there and show those monster what it means to be a insect glaive main

I've adopted the Great Sword as my favored weapon, going from all the way back in MHFU, though I have used all weapon types. I adopted the GS due to the desire to inflict both impact and cutting damage to various parts of a given monster, so as to be able to harvest as much as possible, and maximize rewards, along with the immeasurably useful guard and rolls, and near unstoppable combos, should you position yourself well. And take advantage of attack blind spots and moments of weakness, such as knockdowns or flinches. It takes some work to get the weapon's moveset down, and even then you can be liable to get hit if your timing isn't good, which is why something like an autoguard amulet can be useful. However, if you are good with resheathing your great sword, the mobility hindrance can be mitigated, while also offering your more powerful drawing slash, or even aerial attacks.

i just started to main the Great sword. What do you mean by resheating? i used to main the switch axe and would have to sheath pretty much every minute but the great sword takes a while before it changes color. does it benefit more from sheating after every few hits or does the damage remain the same as long as the color is green?

Green isnt always obtainable it heals you and you gain it from the tail Red is from the head but its pretty much everywhere and its part of your combos with it being what you should get first White is gained from any mobility parts on the monster (eg. Wings, legs) Finally orange it is the final piece of the three colours you need gained from armoured parts of the monster and make sure to experiment on different monsters as it can be found other places Hope this helps for anyone

On the greatsword You don't necesarilly need to charge all your attacks to third stage, on your third charge atrike you do a move called the true charge strike thats the one where you swing and hit for a little damage then roll forward to hit again for massive damage. That hit is the main damaging attack you generally want to go for. If you want to just simply advance forward while attacking though just alternate between wide slash and straight slash.

Great job on the guide! I wish I watched this when I started. The weapons are kinda different than the first MH. So, I believe this will still be useful even after iceborne release, so I'm leaving this here. I'm an IG main. And I may be able to give some tips regarding how to use it. So first of all, kinsect is essential. Kinsect can gather these 'essence' that will buff your character. There are three kinds of essence with different buffs. In a nutshell, red will help you attack more fiercely, white will make you more 'agile', orange will help you stay on the move. Red you can get from the part of the monster's body used mostly for attacking White can be extracted from monster's limbs/ parts used for moving (leg, wing, etc) Orange from the part that is harder to reach than others.l, depends on the monster Kinsect have either blunt or sever attack, but not both. It can have elemental attacks as well. Also, auto mode for kinsect is also possible. Air is your domain. But it doesn't mean you have to stay up there the whole time. stay on the ground when you have the opportunity to unleash much better dps. In midair, you can Dodge using both the Dodge button and attacks. Though the later will drain your stamina. Know when to sharpen your glaive, and to drop down. Being able to fly doesn't make you invincible. You can master all of this just by playing the game. You will understand everything without you realizing it. Lastly, do give other weapons a try to keep you from getting bored playing the game. Most of the time, it will make you appreciate IG even more! For me at least :)

I got some basic but important tips for HBG, this is extremely late though. Your explosives are incredible for breaking monster parts, but they knock back your teammates so only use them when they aren't actively running towards/attacking the monster. Second, sticky ammo and cluster ammo don't have true critical range; only the first one damage connection is calculated in critical range. Tranq ammo works as a safer and potentially quicker replacement for tranq bombs, so you'll want to pack a lot of traps with you for captures. You'll want to use your dodges to get into critical range, as unsheathing and resheathing to run takes much longer. As a tip for gun selection, having higher reserves and quicker reload times on a specific ammo is a great indicator of what you should use the gun for. Finally, a well aimed wyvernsnipe has the potential to finish every monster part at once but the tail, which must be chopped. If you have teammates who target these spots enough however, you may be better off using a wyvernheart gun to rapidly damage the monster, but be weary, because it reduces your dodging capabilities even more while firing.
