What other popping rods would you recommend for the big Porbeagles. I look forward to your reply

Jonny Kavanagh Hi Johnny, I’ve tried various different popping rods like the Shimano Terez and the Hart poppers etc but to be honest I personally couldn’t hand on heart recommend anything other than the Daiwa GT86. For me it is the most comfortable and has the best performance of all the poppers I’ve tried. However if I had to suggest one then take a look at the Ocean Extreme rods. Those are similar in performance to the Daiwa but slightly cheaper. I use one of their lighter rods for blue sharking. I hope that helps but if you have any more questions just let me know. Kind regards. Jay

Thanks for a great video. Out of interest what was your drag set to on the saltiga. I own a 5000 i love it and would love to give it a go on the sharks. Whats the brand of popping rod youre using?
@HookedGB
5 жыл бұрын
chris singleton thanks Chris. Because it’s a fixed spool you can’t set the drag but I do know for every half a turn of the drag knob it adds 4lb approx. When the baits are out I tighten the drag just enough to stop line coming off the spool in the swells. ☺️👍🏼

Great video Jay. Just one aspect of the film. You didn't run a bit of footage on terminal tackle i.e. Length and b/s of the leader. And the length of biting trace, and of course b/s of the mainline. But it was a great film.

Thanks Brian, yes I didn’t include terminal tackle in this vid as I cover that in other vids on the channel. Hope you are well and catching plenty. Tight lines. Jay. ☺️👍🏼

master blob I know tell me about it! Took endless hours going through the film frame by frame to make sure it was covered. I had no choice as It was a condition of the skippers that I kept the landmark hidden. Glad you enjoyed the film though. Tight lines. Jay ☺️👍🏼

Nice job. Porbeagles are absolutely more persnickety than say a dumb blue shark. Over a dozen times this year alone I had a beagle bite the bait in half or up to the hook, without actually eating the hook itself. Began burying the hook inside the bait by popping out the gills then back into the bait's body so it is completely hidden. 100% hookup rate since I began doing that. Also, I don't know about where you are, but over here I have seen them congregate. 3-4 or more, all acting dumb, coming to the surface, repeatedly biting baits... you could call it an infestation the likes of which you expect from blue sharks. They seem to do this in certain places when the water gets very warm for them. Otherwise they are like you say, solitary, very cautious, will hit and run. They will quite commonly teeth or even 'gum' a fish, even get pulled along for a ride without actually biting down on the fish to rip it.

@@spiritj7062 Fisherman in the U.K. don't catch and eat every living creature they come across, unlike certain people who don't buy a license and take home every fish to eat, I'm talking about rivers, when it comes to Shark fishing these guys, unlike the French, Spanish and every country that has a coastline in the Mediterranean, kill and eat the sharks, that's why there are no longer Porbeagle, Blue, Thresher, Mako, etc, etc, etc, because of this kind of fishing, the Med is barren of apex predators, I'm using the Med as an example.We have these amazing creatures, because of how we treat them, we have standards, unlike many other nations. Gandi said, you judge a country, on how it treats it's animals! So being the first to have an RSPCA, I'd say we're pretty civilised.🤔🏴👍🇬🇧
