My cousin Tim lives with his native Texan wife in Round Rock, an Austin suburb. I visited them both 1 month ago for the solar eclipse. Our first stop after I landed in Austin was the Salt Lick! 1 hour wait to get in, but well worth the wait. Best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life! There were cords of oak wood just outside, stacked and ready for the pit. Rivaled only by Terry Black’s! The Salt Lick is indescribably delicious, and the sauces are perfect! They enhance the flavor of the meat without overpowering the meat or being overpowered by the meat. The meat alone is worth the price of admission, but the meat and the sauce are greater than the sum of their parts! I’ve done enough drooling! 🤤 The Salt Lick is mandatory for all Austin tourists!

As a previous Traeger+ user, I'm now a loyal Asmoke convert! The precision temperature control and the ASCA technology make a massive difference in my BBQ game. I've noticed my meats come out succulent, with a richer, smokier flavor. It's all thanks to using wood pellets, which also come in different flavors to experiment with. The compact and lightweight design of the Asmoke grill makes it a breeze to take on camping and tailgating trips. Plus, the battery lasts for up to 10 hours, so I can grill all day without worrying about running out of power! The Asmoke app with its temp monitoring and recipe sharing is a game-changer too. The transition from Traeger+ to Asmoke has truly elevated my BBQ experience. Highly recommended for any BBQ enthusiast out there! #Asmoke

Those beef ribs are different because they are back ribs rather than short ribs. Back ribs normally have less meat on them because they are right next to the rib roast (think prime rib/ribeye). Since the rib roast is a rather valuable cut, when bones are separated from the roast, butchers cut close to the bone so as to maximize profits.
@nitromartini1422

Franklin's is better. This place literally smokes their food and refrigerates it. Then they throw products on the big grill to warm it back up. They try to claim it "makes the BBQ better", but that is BS. They do it because they can seat hundreds of people and need to have enough stock to feed that many people. Franklin's is cooked fresh every day and when they sell out it is done for the day, and it sells out every day.

That selection on your meat platter looked absolutely amazing and delicious. The only thing I’d say that would be missing off there for me would be a shoulder of bacon. This is something Irish people cook up. You basically have a pork picnic roast that has been cured. Then you boil it up in a large pot remove it from the water shred up cabbage and added to the water so all the salt and bacon flavour is absorbed into the cabbage. You cook it up and serve it with the potatoes. Three ingredient dish. That’s delicious bacon, cabbage and potatoes. Now granted, bacon, cabbage and potatoes wouldn’t go well on that platter what the shoulder of bacon would think of pulled pork but bacon flavour this is what it is. In my opinion, it is the greatest piece of bacon on the planet. It is better than streaky bacon. It is better than back bacon. It is better than the colour of bacon and it’s better than a ham without a doubt. The flavour the texture everything about it it’s just iconic. You have all the flavour from the fat absorbed into the meat. You have all the flavour coming from the bone, absorbed into the meat. Without a doubt, it is easily one of the best pieces of meat you will eat in your life. So that amazing platter. The only thing missing from that for me would be the shoulder of bacon. Now I’m an Irishman, true and true, born in the country and moved to North America. However, Texas does have some Irish immigrants that set up communities back in 1828. So Texas could easily embrace the shoulder of bacon. I wonder what it would be like smoked.

Sir, this is a video about Texas BBQ. What does an Irish dish have to do with BBQ, especially if you have never tried it before? Just go look for a video about Bacon if it is that important to you. Seriously.

@@SANTIS2099 I'm aware it was about Texas barbecue but this also displayed a fantastic delicious meat platter . And in my opinion the only thing missing from that was a shoulder of bacon to make it heaven on Earth you would have to bake and you would have the ribs you would have to brisk it it would be the promised Land.

The original history of the place, the family, the pit is more interesting than just reviewing the bbq today. It’s okay bbq and had a better atmosphere before the expansion and up scaling the building.

Been going to the Salt Lick for 25 years when it was in the smaller building. This is not traditional Texas BBQ along with the sides all due to Mrs. Hisako Roberts the founding owners wife. The barbecue at the Salt Lick has those familiar flavors of Texas smoked meat, the sauce used and sides influenced by Hisako’s Japanese heritage and Hawaiian background. Dang.. I'm due to go again soon. YUM!

BEST BBQ ?????? not really tbh buddy... went there and was soooooo disapointed with the quality of the meal. They forgot our order, 45 min l8er, the server came to see us and apologized then, the 2 plate that were served WERE COLD. Really bad.... i could say more about my experience but, not here to complain. i rate this BBQ experience a 1/10. Ambiance & atmosphere & beauty of the pit 9/10. Dont get me wrong, i was looking forward to coming here after YEAR'S of checking video's of people describing their experience. Drove 2.800 KM to go there to be sad. :( sorry.

As a former Traeger+ user, I must say that the switch to Asmoke has been a game-changer for me. I was initially drawn to the Asmoke's smart design and FlameTech patent. The precise temperature control within 5°F, and remote temperature adjustment and food temperature monitoring capabilities were a revelation. But what truly won me over was the flavor. The wood pellets from Asmoke, sourced from compressed wood, add a distinct smoky taste to my barbecues that is simply unmatched. As an environmentally conscious person, the fact that these pellets are made from recycled wood materials is a huge plus. Plus, the convenience of this battery-powered portable pellet grill means I can take it on all my outings. It's transformed my grilling experience and I can't imagine going back. #Asmoke
