I've been past this building countless times, never given it a second thought so thanks for bringing it to our attention Greg! I have to disagree with the previous comment that it's dangerous as I've walked through there at night without a bother, the last time being in 2014, but things may have changed since then.

Yeah Rue, I’ve always found that part of Dublin relatively safe.

Bank of Ireland banknotes were printed at their headquarters there in Dublin until 1958, before 1928 for all of Ireland then from 1929-1958 for Northern Ireland only. The notes printed before 1928 have an imprint on the reverse stating that they were printed by the Bank of Ireland in Dublin, but for the notes printed for Northern Ireland they removed the imprint to remove the reference to Dublin. Bank of Ireland was the last bank to print its own banknotes - afterwards the printing contracts went to security printers in Great Britain.

That building has aged well since 1980, I like its architecture. Has it been cleaned perhaps since it was built? It looks like its only a decade old not more than 4.

Yeah Rob, they did a lot of work on it recently. You might have noticed that they still have some security barriers up, so work is presumably ongoing. Nevertheless, I don’t ever remember this building not looking clean. I think you’re right, it’s aged very well. It’s an attractive building.

@@nakedireland I am not a fan of modern architecture but I like that one.

Never cared for the Bank of Ireland building. It feels like a a big lump of furniture you inherited from your granny and felt obliged to keep. The GPO on the other hand is wonderful living building and a symbol of our fight for independence.

Yeah but an old piece of furniture and a new piece of furniture can look good in a house?

@@nakedireland Oh I wouldn't get rid of it. Just never felt any connection with the building. They need to make accessible in some meaningful way.

Yeah, perhaps your right. Turn it into a big arts centre. That’d be fantastic and the building is so appropriate.

Really? Do you think so? Dame street is well lit and Temple bar is quite busy. I would have thought the area as safe as any other part of central Dublin?
