The photos for this project, the second of the triptych dedicated to the Massive of Grappa, were taken between March and October 2020, right in the midst of the lockdown when my photography activities were partially permitted (from April onwards). A total of 50,000 photos were captured during this period (additional shots were taken before, as seen in the first film, and after, as seen in the third and final film).
These are clearly sequential photos forming the so-called "time-lapse," a sequence where the photos appear at 25 or more per second, giving the impression of accelerated movement that allows for a quick and visually captivating portrayal of nature's changes. The photos were taken at regular intervals, ranging from 2 seconds to 20-30 seconds (for night shots), allowing the camera to achieve proper exposure while capturing the movements of nature with the right fluidity.
The original video format is around 7,000+ pixels on the long side (almost 8K). A significant portion of the photos was discarded during the final editing process. The final selection focused on the best sequences or those that best fit the project.
The "internal" significance of this film can be found in the similarity between natural events, highlighted by the movement of clouds, storms, and finally stars, and the immense battlefield that the Massive of Grappa was during the phases of the First World War. Both the editing and the shots aim to somewhat emulate Eisenstein's cinematic vision, exemplified by the Cima Grappa Shrine portrayed as the battleship in the famous 1925 film "Battleship Potemkin."
As for the music, I had the privilege of collaborating with the exceptional composer Arsentiy Kharitonov, a Russian artist adopted by America. Essentially, he captured the essence of my work and crafted music that is both compelling and powerful.
