Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s most famous ecotourism destinations. In this video I'm exploring the amazing cloud forests and hanging bridges of Monteverde, and a whole lot more!
The area around Monteverde has been inhabited since before 3000 BC, but it didn't really become a tourist destination until the 1980s. That's when people started flocking to the well-preserved rainforest conservations, such as the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve has its roots in the 1950s, when American Quakers settled in Monteverde and set aside land for conservation. Today it attracts more than 70 000 ecotourists every year, and this is one of Costa Rica's most famous destinations - despite being quite remote.
I also explore the town of Santa Elena, and other activities in the Monteverde area - such as a visit to the Bat Jungle, a combined bat exhibit and museum where you can learn a lot about bats, and a night tour in the rainforest. I also take a trip to the Selvatura hanging bridges, and also check out the sloth sanctuary and a reptile exhibit.
Come along as I show you the best things to see and do in Monteverde, and tell you of its interesting history!
