Montgomery Ward Commercial from early 1990's. Prices reduced to low prices everyday. Guess that didn't work out too well... Somebody else uploaded this before me.

+Oli Arz I remember going to this store with my parents when I was a kid. It was my favorite experience. It's ashamed they're not around anymore. They approved me for my very first credit card. I bought a TV with it, which I still have today and it works just as good as the day I first brought it home.

I hear you, I still have a 90’s Montgomery Ward chest freezer still running strong 💪🏽 …a few years ago we experienced the “polar vortex” where it snowed here in Texas and we lost power for a week! And that chest kept its temperature for days! Incredible! I wish more modern appliances were thy reliable and robust. Real talk.

It will be nice if it still exists, even though I only existed for 2 months before they all closed.

there was an abandoned Montgomery Ward near me since 2000 and no one ever went inside it. The furthest people went was past the sense and towards the Electric Ave. It was then bought by a Ford dealer that uses the property for storage. This is in Panorama City, CA

@SpringCredits5 It closed in March 2001 and came back as an ONLINE store in June 2004. So it would be: Is Montgomery Ward Closed Down? It Closed Down at Mar.2001 - Apr. 2004. Now Montgomery Ward is Back at June 2004 - but only online. Would be nice if it reopened. May 17, 2011 2:10 am

+mitchellj1986 I was born in the 90s, and while I remember going to Sears as a small boy many times with my family, I can't recall ever seeing a Montgomery Ward store. It was only after they had gone belly up that I learned about them. Sears is dying the same slow, painful death that Wards did, only two decades later. Hopefully once they're gone, another company will buy their IP and resurrect them in some form, just like what's been done with Wards.

@The096757 Target has been around in the midwest sense the early 70's. Besides that Monkey Wards competition was with Sears and J.C. Penny(who today is barley hanging on). what really killed Montgomery Wards was there refusal to move to suburbia with the middle classes in the 1950's and 60's, after that the company changed hands a lot until the recessions of the 80's and 90's killed it off hard.

Both of you are right. Wards troubles began during the postwar boom. There were many people who after WWII feared that another Great Depression was coming, and MW president Sewell Avery was one of them. He refused to expand into the suburbs because he was so sure that the boom and bust cycle would return. As a result, they began to fall behind their rivals. Then in the 80s and 90s, even their main competitors had started to lose money to discount-based retailers like Kmart, Walmart, and Target. They managed to hold on, but because Montgomery Ward had already been failing for many years, it proved fatal to them.
