Had a Norge washer just like this one when I was a child..... & it did a fantastic job of getting dirty laundry very clean. It was very dependable too!

This washer is the reason why I am into washing machines at all. When I was like 4 years old, my grandma had this machine. I'd always want to play with the lint ring for some reason. lol

These Montgomery Wards Norge washers were workhorses back in the day, and they got your clothes clean too.

Neutral drain is until the water level pressure switch resets, at which point the brake release solenoid energizes. The purpose probably is for the load to settle down before spin begins to reduce the chance of off-balance, instead of floating freely and potentially bunching together into a lump.

The Norge and Montgomery-Ward by Norge were two unsung heroes. Those machines were solid as a Sherman tank. They were a bit loud, but that's fine by me. I personally never trusted a washer that didn't make some noise.

What super strong washers those were. I Remember the last of that design was promoted as a 20 pound washer by Norge actually was Magic Chief branded.

I’ve seen a handful of those, and this machine truly blew away my expectations with just how much the agitator just beats the clothes up

I'm surprised it didn't suds-lock! This washer most likely cleans far better than anything made today.

Today's Speed Queen TR SERIES WASHERS drain very much like this one and then a gradual spin to top speed with a spray rinse before full spin speed .

Some late friends of ours owned an Admiral washer-about a 1981-1982 model-same design as this washer-it was noisy-I have fond memories of it.

The Frigidaire from GM was just as loud as Norge. Of course, back in those days, there was no such thing as a quiet appliance.

Do you have any current videos of this washer in action? Do you have the complete fabric softner dispenser to show?

Well... Kenmore was the Sears name brand, but most of its washers were made by Whirlpool, so that's just the way it goes sometimes.

Hey what's up ? Do you know if this is Borg Warner or Fedders built ? I think by 1969 Fedders bought Norge from BW. We had a 20lb Norge from the early 70s. Same agitator as this. Was a very good cleaner but EXTREMELY loud. A 3/4 h.p. motor would do that I guess.

The water is forced up the agitator through holes at the bottom of the agitator into the filter by the agitation

Once again....direct drive machines are reliable and predictable.
@johnalbanese30

No one is talking about a direct drive. All Whirlpool did was remove twe pulleys, and a belt. They connected the motor to the transmission with a plastic clip, and connected the pump to the other end of the motor. All to save a few pennies. The actual cleaning has nothing to do with how the motor is connected to the transmission.
