I started doing my own laundry when I was around 11. I accidentally washed some money, and it was fine but I was afraid I was going to get in trouble for “money laundering” because I had no idea what it actually meant 😂. I wouldn’t even ask my parents about it I was so afraid.

Carla, thank you for sharing. I've used a compact washer and dryer for about five years...wanted to suggest a few things. I use a mesh strainer in my sink along with regular cleaning of the one in the washer. Save your pipes from getting clogged. Also, you MUST vent your dryer to the outside. Lint is a fire hazard and it is unhealthy to inhale. You should not have that blowing freely into your home...for the health and safety of you and your dog. Proud of you for pretreating...that is one step I omit (but probably shouldn't).

I have a Panda PAN6360W, the younger and slightly bigger sibling of your washer, for a little over a year and I've found loading the washer only 3/4 of the way results in much better results as far as how clean your clothes can get. These impeller washers aren't as strong as the OG central column washers so they need a little extra room to allow the clothes to move around and rub up against the drum where all those holes and indentions do the "scrubbing". Just a heads up. You do what works for you. Nice video and chill BGM.

You really should vent your dryer out the window because you are going to get a lot of moisture in your apartment. You probably don't realize this but moisture will get into the drywall and mold will develop. If you can't vent out the window, you might want to purchase a dehumidifier to get the excess moisture out of your apartment to avoid mold.

Hey Carla! I wanted to ask you about your portable washer & dryer ... I have been researching endlessly and I was checking out your Panda washer and some portable dryers. It seems like it would be sooo amazing to have those! I live in an apt & the W&D are in the basement & I'm on the 4th floor & honestly I haven't laundry in a long time! So I think it would be so helpful to have these. It seems from the video like your experience with both has been good & really convenient. Just wondering if you have any helpful hints OR tips or anything you might share with a friend about them. I have read a lot of good reviews on the Panda - but also others about flooding - it could drive you crazy reading all of the reviews!!! Again, most are positive - just thought I'd ask for your opinion. Thanks!
@TheCarlaProject
2 жыл бұрын
YES! I highly recommend BOTH!! I have two other friends who have since gone this route (my WD is also in the basement and just a pain). Only thing I would say about the washer is you don't want to leave it unattended - as in leave the house. Because the drain hose has to be really secure in the sink and I'd say maybe twice in the past two years it;s happened that the hose has moved from sink and onto floor and that is when water gets all over. Super rare and that is user error more than anything. I looooove it!!

I’m totally obsessed with laundry, like completely, I’ve never understood why apartments in the states don’t have plumbing for washing machines, I’d rather clean in my own machine than one that other people use and abuse, Here in the uk most of the time Our washers and dryers are in our kitchens, not many houses have basements, and laundry rooms are still not a common thing, but the front load machines we have here that are staNdard across Europe are the same size as what you call portable front loaders, Why do need such big machines, I get white American sized queen size bedding in my machine with duvet cover and white towels in the one wash, with room to spare The. I do my normal whites load, dark colours, pale colours, greys then boils wash the kitchen towels, cloths, etc etc of which I get through around 120 microfibre clothes a week, then around 25 drying towels, not used for dishes as I use the dishwasher but they get sides for buffing tiles, cupboard fronts, floors before I wash them with the floormate, then my bathroom cleaning cleaning cloths around 50 in a week, and my 8kg drum Copes on every wash load with room to spare, luckily ours have heaters in them as well. So I wash darks, light colours and greys on 40degrees uk which is 104 degrees for you guys in the states, I wash my whites at 60 degrees uk or 140 for you guys in the states again, white bedding I do at 70 degrees uk which for You guys is 158 and my kitchen and bathroom cleaning clothes, cleaning towels and around 200 microfibre cloths get washed at 90 degrees uk which is 194 Fahrenheit, Never have to use a stain remover, or additives or bleach, just my powder and fabric softener, The 90 degree (194 Fahrenheit) wash keeps My machine immaculate, no mould nor Smells not scale, I hate cold water washes and quick wash, even with detergent it’s not clean. You need heat to break down body oils and grease, you wouldn’t wash greasy dishes in cold water or yourself or your hair as you know it wouldn’t be clean, so why do it with clothes, Just another reason I find it strange that so many apartments in the states don’t have space for laundry, all my apartments from the age of 16 had laundry in the kitchen and then when I bought houses I still had it in the kitchen, it’s in my kitchen now ( well one set is ) the other washing machine and dryer is in my hallway cupboard and plumbed in and working as that’s for the cats, ( 6 indoor cats that are very furry so they have their own washing machine and dryer) So if we cope with our washing machine sizes here and across Europe why can’t you guys, why do you have such big machines that never seem to be used to full capacity, that’s a waste of water and power and more to dump ( recycle) when it needs replacing, I can get queen size duvets in my machine with its 8kg drum (around 18 lbs of laundry and then some ) and the actual size of the machine is what you call Portable or European. Approx 80cm/31 inches high 60cm/ 24 inches wide and depth is around is around the same as width, You have undercounted dishwashers so why not undercounter washing machines and dryers, Lol sorry went off on a laundry tangent

Your bedroom is gorgeous. Those windows, with the beautiful trees outside, and the light! Love the wood floors and how light and airy it looks. Had to say that first. I had one of those small portable washers when I lived in a place with no washer. No dryer, used a clothes line but I have to say those little washers do a great job spin drying so clothes are almost dry. Thought about getting a small dryer but had nowhere to vent it. Your washer is great, almost like a regular full size one, and no transferring clothes in one side, into the other, babysitting it as it fills. Still, it beat going to a laundromat. Your setup is much better.

I got this dryer and it vents out a window. but in winter I have it venting into a water bucket thing you can buy at home depot for a few bucks. I understand you don't see the damage it's causing but it def is esp your hardwood floors. the moisture causes mold beneath the surfaces.

Thank you for doing this video. Wife mentioned us getting a portable washer but I wasn't sure how big they were or if they would clean that good but it turns out they do a great job and also I had no idea that they sold portable dryers that you can just use a vent attachment if you don't have a vent going outside and that collects all the lint and helps with some of the humidity at least somewhat. Thanks for the videos it really helps out with making my decision for me and my wife to get one of those units. 😁

At first, I was happy to not have my own laundry machines after I moved. I didn't have to clean around them, didn't have to cover maintinence costs, they didn't hog up space, etc. I still appreciate those perks, but damn I miss being able to do laundry whenever I please, not having to pay per load, not having to worry about whether or not the previous user might have had some sort of infestation and did they run the water hot enough to kill everything and if I'll get an infestation if they didn't, etc. Another issue with communal machines is when someone else leaves their stuff sitting in them all day, it can not only slow up the line of other tenants waiting, but it can also stink up the washers and that smell can get on your clothes... I didn't need to explain any of that, I know, but I think I just wanted to complain lol. It's never crossed my mind to make use of portable machines, I have the space to use them, and I either have or can make the space to store them lol. Sorry for whining all over the comments. 😄 Going to wander off and check out those links,. :)

Mary I wish I would’ve mentioned all this in my video bc yes to allllllll of this!!! We have one washer dryer for our entire building and it’s always broken or full of someone’s clothes and I hated doing my laundry in the basement. So yea this set up is a dream!!

@@TheCarlaProject There are 4 buildings in my complex, each building has 2 laundry rooms, each laundry room has 2 pairs of machines, and there are 12 residential units in each building. The communal laundry setup would probably be fine, except half the time half of them are broken and the other half the time most of them have peoples' stuff sitting in them. When I first came to look at the apartment before signing the lease, I was SO excited to have a laundry room right outside my door. That excitement didn't last very long, as I really don't want to drag my crap back and forth across the building, across the parking lot, or play hide and seek with a pair of empty, functioning machines that may not even be in the same laundry room much less the same building lol.

The best thing to do is it to treat those stains as soon as they happen. After a month they are super set in.

Worst thing I ever put in the washing machine - a red ball point pen 😆 had to learn that lesson the hard way!

The worst thing I've washed is a pen. Once in college in a load with all my favorite clothes - everything had black ink on it. Just had to wear those things still. This most recent time, a pen in my work pants pocket. Luckily it only ruined that pair of pants. I spent a couple of hours trying to get the stains out with Dawn and alcohol, but then realized they weren't coming out and so I just replaced the pants. I'm usually very good about checking since that college incident. I don't know how I missed this one but now I'm more paranoid than ever. I had never seen a portable washer before but I would definitely have one if I didn't have laundry hookups. Going to the laundromat is SUCH a pita / time waster. It looks like that little washer does a pretty darn good job. I am very thankful for my own washer / dryer - I really enjoy laundry as far as chores go. Samson looked very happy that his bed got washed, too. I think my dogs actually prefer theirs to be stinky. They aren't as refined as he is.

Hi Carla, I forgot to ask you in my last comment, do you put a filter inside the air inlet screen (the little white one on the inside bottom right?) I just bought the Homcom portable dryer and I can't get a straight answer out of anybody about this lol(it didn't come with a mesh filter)
